>>18598753Hublots only unserious because every time you someone wearing one of those you want to say you can't be serious, are you fucking retarded, why would you buy it.
>>18598776Hating on Hublot is Reddit-tier. You faggots keep parroting this fat fuck soifaggot Nico Leonard (who only hate the brand because they won't do collabs with him btw) like it's gospel truth.Hublot is far from perfect but they've made a bunch of cool technical achievements over the years and have developed their own design language without copying anybody. They're based and every watch Youtubers deserve a bullet in the mouth.
I don't know who gave the green light for this shit, but the price are already going down on the grey market. Someone should legit get fired for this design.
>>18598788Exactly. The casual/flashy luxury watch has been a thing since the Offshore in 93.I think the old daily/dress/sports (e.g. DJ/Tank/Sub) combination has been superseded by the smartwatch/dress/flashy combination. An Apple Watch for daily wear, a Calatrava for when you are in a formal environment, and a Big Bang/Offshore/RM or something like that when you’re in a casual situation.
>>18598817The person who made that design has probably been dead for years. It’s a pretty faithful recreation of a model from the 1970s made pretty much only for fans of the brand. They knew it wasn’t going to be popular. They did not think that this was their competition for the Submariner.Relax. Watches aren’t supposed to make anyone this angry.

>>18599243If anything I'd think it makes people hesitate to buy something because they know in 3-6 months something better might come out. You have to keep in mind most watch buyers just buy one or two big watches and they're done, so other than the house and the car the omega a dude buys to celebrate a career milestone or something will be the most expensive single item he ever buys in his life. So what if he thinks he's buying a really cool seamaster and they 2 months later an even cooler version of the same model comes out? The old watch is cool but not as interesting as the new one, and getting the new one if going to cost him more time and money and even if he trades the old one to get it he's going to take some kind of loss. That's not a good feeling. It's okay to do a limited run here and there, but it really feels like every couple weeks there's a new seamaster or speedmaster. It's way too much. Seiko is also guilty of this, panerai kinda does this and sometimes they even take it to an even more insane level where they'll only make like 100 watches with an insane movement that can record and replay a 5 second audio clip in a rewritable wax disc or some shit, so 100 people with more money than sense can pay $200k for a watch just to go "O no, now they made 25 watches that can be used as a vape and I missed out!!!"

Anyone else notice how the quality of these threads dropped by a large margin ever since whoretadello left?We used to joke /wt/ stands for whoretadello's thread, but little did we know that actually was the case. In the good old days whoretadello and other avatarfrens discussed watches and made fun, quality posts in harmony with regular users. /wt/ actually was a comfy and meaningful place with its own identity. All this eventually turned to shit when bittercel started his relentless smear campaign. I suppose the only actual reason for that was his jealousy of whoretadello's wealth and social relationships. His mind turned his hard earned wealth into "tax fraud, inheritance money and liquidating his entire networth" and his relationships became nothing more than prostitution and human trafficking.I am sad that he left, but I understand his reasons. Eventually the smear would've gotten to him and affect his cheerful view of life in general. He did the right thing seeking better, more successful people and I don't blame him.I guess all good things come to an end and I want to thank you for the good times we had, in whoretadello's thread.

I, for one, welcome and embrace our bittercel. Without him this thread wouldn't be the same.Thank you.
I wasn't around when the original bittercel/reversocel apotheosis happened, but I think the special anon we have in thread these days (the one who accuses people of being bittercel whenever they post something he dislikes) is basically like a new bittercel himself. nucel, if you will.>>18600133This guy isn't the typical filename-anon, because that's me, but he's not nucel either. At least I don't think nucel would defend kofegang.>>18600180I suppose it is possible that nucel actually is bittercel, and his entire persona now revolves around accusing others of being himself. These threads really are magical. In my /wt/ headcanon I imagine that an anon who is berating me in one thread is the same anon I'm having a thoughtful discussion with in the other.
>>18600186Anon what the fuck. Take a walk.

The greatest trick bittercel pulled was to make us believe it's not him.the original bittercel is actually the Op of this general. Seriously. The pattern is very clear if you just pay attention to it.
>>18599861You're not exactly wrong but let's not forget that a regular hesalite MOTFM Speedmaster is now a $8500 watch. That's insane. For that kind of cash you could get any kind of METAS certified Tudor (no chrono admittedly) with the exact same accuracy and you'd have enough left over for five Bulova Moonwatches for you and your friends.Secondary market seems pretty soft on them too.
>>18600198I'm totally with you on that, but realistically if you want to stress about accuracy from a balance wheel escapement, you've gotta go for something with time and money invested into the balance wheel and it's adjustment. Many people report their Lange watch actually running within ±2spd, and I'm sure there are cheaper options but you will be paying a lot to get something that actually meets the advertised specs for more than a few months after it leaves the factory.
>>18600191Every board should have flags at a minimun I think.>>18600193dualitycel
>>18600196Bittercel is that negative voice inside all of us.
>>18600203Yeah I know but it still feels nice to think that in theory this little machine made of levers and gears accurately keeps time on that level. At some point if accuracy is the number one priority you can't get around quartz.
>>18600210Anons always talk about a 4 watch collection that's something like: beater, dress, sports, GADABut I'm going for: low-accuracy mechanical (Swiss shitter), high-accuracy mechanical (something from Glashutte), low accuracy quartz (Seiko MASTERPIECE), HAQ or SD (GS). Also I think it's far more likely a person will wear all sports or all dress than having a mix of different styles, then you end up like the stamina boost copypasta.
>>18600215Some anon posted in the last thread about the smartwatch-dress-flashy watch combo. That’s basically where I’ve ended up.I wear my Garmin most days.I know it’s not a collection per se, but I prefer having one or two really nice pieces rather than a snow shovel full of shitters.
>>18600215>beater, dress, sports, GADAsounds terrible honestly, just consilidate beater, sports and GADA into one decent watch and keep a proper shitter for when things get really muddy. I see this all the time IRL though: I have 4 slots left on my watch box what should I get? After buying nothing but Shinola and Frederique Constant shitters non stop for two years.Your approch seems much more logical, especially the thing about not mixing styles.
I tried on an 114270 and I liked it. I’m not in the US nor JP but I want to buy it from either place.Anything I should be wary of, besides the japs’ tendency to over polish?
>>18600218Buying a watch box and then deciding that is going to be the size of one’s collection is always funny to me.Like, they go out of their way to buy something, anything, just to fill an empty slot.
>>18600217What are your nice pieces?>>18600218Yeah like are we really expected to believe someone who enjoys wearing a small discrete dress watch will also want to wear a Royal Oak Jumbo? When I see reddit-esque watch boxes like that I wonder if they actually have such diverse tastes, or if they were retardedly box-ticking. The guys with 10 integrated sports watches are more honest about what they like.
>>18600221Patek 5196 and an Hermès H08.
>>18600220Even if you do the opposite and buy a small box to purposefully limit your collection, it's still a farce. I could throw my skmei and my Seiko mod in there right now and it would be full, but the box is actually a LARP for X number of watches I want to peacock.
>>18600222Flavorful.
>>18600186Are you Loretadello?

>>18600215>But I'm going for: low-accuracy mechanical (Swiss shitter), high-accuracy mechanical (something from Glashutte), low accuracy quartz (Seiko MASTERPIECE), HAQ or SD (GS).It makes no fucking sense, what is a low accuracy quartz even, kek. Even a G-shock is high accuracy.
>>18600232On a cheap Casio or cheap Seiko quartz you'll be off by about 15 seconds PER MONTH. That's like normal cheapo quartz performance. So my quartz watch is actually less accurate than my spring drive, but still more accurate than my Swiss mechanical.
>>18600231Loretadello is an anon who’s been here forever and knows the history of /wt/ going back to the beginning. He hasn’t posted in a long while, though.

Unironic QRD of reverso guy vs bitteranon?
>>18600258Three or so years ago, it was during the coof, there was a poster who owned a Reverso. Bittercel (he didn’t have that name yet) gave him shit for posting his watch (i.e. “avatarfagging”). So the Reverso owner named him Bittercel.Eventually, like most people, he got bored and left.Bittercel, however, stayed and has been trying to turn -cel into a common suffix and desperately trying to turn Bittercel into a generalized name ever since. (He also tends to immediately use whatever someone uses to mock him with in response.) Which is ironic because if he just dropped the issue, the name would be forgotten, but every time he feels called out and responds instantly, it just reinforces how much it has become his name.

Plus, Hermès is doing the right things in becoming a watchmaker. They make their own cases, dials, and straps. They bought into Vaucher for movements. >>18600741It's not formal.
literally any Rolex can be worn with a sport coat

>>18600821>high temp environment>wear watch that conducts heat extremely wellAnons try to say Rolex used to be cool, but it's always been for retards.
Without memeing, can someone who hates Rolex give me an honest explanation as to why?Is it Rolex owners? Is it their pricing? Is it the games that Rolex ADs (who are largely independent of Rolex) play? Do you just not like the way they look?I ask because, while there are plenty of brands I dislike, I don’t actually HATE any of them.
>>18600844Nobody actually HATES Rolex, they're just disappointed that something so popular doesn't appeal to them, for whatever reasons. They're disappointed in the brand for not using their resources to make something they like, and they're disappointed in the general peer for liking something they dislike. For me personally, it's my liking of old Rolex models that makes me especially dislike their current products. That's pretty common.
>>18600844It may depend on your age and where you're from, but in Europe at last, a gold Rolex was always associated with douchebags and scammer. Unlike in the US in general, you're not supposed to flash your wealth.example: US presidents can wear a gold "Rolex president" no problem, but the French president got roasted by the press because he was wearing a 3k Bell&Ross and people were outraged.Cartier watches get away with it because they were traditionally more for women. And Zoomers don't have those old cultural references so it may change.
>>18600844>>18600859Also, Europe was always flooded with fake Rolexes (i can't even call them replicas) coming from or through Italy.
>>18600859>the president having 3k of disposable income outrages the publicwow you people are poor
>>18600859> Unlike in the US in general, you're not supposed to flash your wealth.Nah, that’s considered gauche here too. Most culturally Protestant areas de-emphasize ostentatious displays of wealth.US presidents, even rich ones, even ones who like watches, tend to wear beaters when in office. The Rolex “President” name comes from LBJ in the 1960s. Trump is the first president in a long time to wear a gold watch. Biden wore a DJ, Obama wore some no-name thing. I remember Clinton wore an Ironman.
>>18600844I already asked this question in a previous thread, and what came out from the answers is that people hate Rolex for reasons that have nothing to do with the watches themselves.>ROLEX OWNERS ARE ASSHOLES>I SAW SOME PAJEET WEARING A FAKE ROLEX ONCE>ZENDAYA LMAO>HURRRR WAITLISTS BADMy theory is that they know Rolex makes the best mechanical sports watches on the market by pretty much every standards the "watch community" usually use to judge a luxury watch (accuracy, durability, warranty, ease of service, resale value, in house everything, heritage, flex). And since they’re not part of the club they cope by arguing in bad faith or just trolling.
>>18600874That's just not true. For all the tech they have, they keep bad time. How they're so inaccurate with an overcoil hairspring is actually impressive.
>>18600878Nigga they make 1.3 millions watches every year with an accuracy of +2/-2s a day Mine is so accurate I suspect it's radio-controlled.
>>18600874I think an added component is that people simply don’t want to admit that they enjoy something that’s so popular.Any numbnuts with a couple bucks who wants to buy a nice watch buys a Rolex. So even if you’ve done all the research and learned a ton, then you buy a Rolex, you still end up in the same place as the NPC buyer.
>>18600869We fucking are.3K is literally 2 months of wage here.
So... when did you realize watches really aren't that interesting and borderline cringe?
would this be considered a dress watch
>>18600844Popular Rolex watches are the equivalent of the Dodge Charger / Ford Mustang. Cool 60 years ago, really gay and lame now.

>>18600874https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzqh2kroYIwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgorm0DgkBAPoolex, not watchmakers but a watch corporation
>>18601009>not watchmakersYou've been spamming this gay shit for months. What kind of esoteric meaning "watchmaker" has to (You)?Cause in my book, Rolex is the most "watchmaker" of all the watchmakers, considering they do everything themselves down to the metal of their watches.
>>18601012They bought all the watch part makers and mashed them together. 100% machine finished. They get robots to shit out 1 million watches a year.Seiko make all their shit from the beginning
>>18601027>They bought all the watch part makers and mashed them togetherThat's how the whole Swiss watch industry worked before the 2000s. Before that you had dial makers, hands makers, case makers, movement makers... It was a network of small specialized companies, and a "watchmaker" was just someone who assembled these parts. Still is, btw. Then in the 2000s Richemont, Swatch, Rolex, Patek and AP started to buy them all. You know those vintage Patek that sell for crazy amounts at auctions? Movements made by Valjoux. Cases made by Wenger. Hands, indices and dials made by Stern. Bracelets made by Gay Frères. Crown made by Favre & Perret.
>>18601008Dropped her when it turned out she's a rich whore from marrying a rich retard.
>>18601051Patek and AP are hand finished, Rolex are shit out by robots

Loving my new Casio
I like watches but I only max want 2, one for daily and one for occasions both cartier also the older ive gotten the more i think silver looks retarded compared to gold, silver compliments my skin better but silver somehow looks too sleak and not elegant enough
>>18600997I know it's the precisionist logo but no, the second hand looks too phallic.
>>18601144Tank LC in yellow gold and Santos Medium in steel.
>>18601148is doing two tanks fucking insanelike having a daily tank and a nicer tank
>>18601106It is pretty..It ust could never get over the apple watch allegations
Had for a month or two and it hasn’t left my wrist. Tbdes the quartz is very convenient.
>>18601178It’s a little crazy, yes. It’s not like there’s a daily watch version of the Tank that’s really any different from the nice Tank.I know people who have Tank collections, but they’re more interested in rare variants.
>>18601097>Rolex are shit out by robotsAnd that's a bad thing because... ?
Hey guys, are christoper ward watches a scam or actually good???
>>18601324Because I hate robots.Anprim future.
>>18601329They’re not exactly a scam, they’re just not very well made. Most of their whole thing is trying to look a lot more expensive than they actually are.
>>18601097hand finished by minimum wage workers imported from the third worldI rather have a swiss machine make my watch
The new Planet Ocean’s clasp is terrible. It’s thicker than the watch itself, it’s so fucking long that it makes it hard to get a comfortable fit on your wrist, and if you decide to use the micro adjustment, just know there will be an obvious tongue of metal sticking out. With Good micro adjustment clasps, you can’t tell, because the connecting link looks like a normal bracelet link, not just a milled block of steel.
>>18601444Any clasp that's bigger than 2 full-size links is trash. Unfortunately that's most clasps in the "luxury" price bracket.
>>18601439I don't particularly like the Swiss. They're mostly rootless wannabe jews from the surrounding countries that care so little about their countrymen that they horde wealth in foreign vaults.

>>18601482Pic related, don't seethe.
>>18601488>>18601489The Santos obviously. These complicated JLC are bloated, ugly and stupid.
>>18601493You get that from Reddit or something?
>>18601494I actually found it to be quite thin for the amount of complexity in the watch.Santos seller also tried to scam me by saying that an american already bought it and id have to bid above.
>>18601489IIRC new versions of the duometre use a plated brass movement instead of something actually valuable.Maybe look at a used older duometre? The SD is cool when the pic is focusing on the watch, but I find square dials stand out too much when you consider the whole fit.
>>18601496From the comments on a paid review site.
>>18601500So it’s reasonable to assume that the comments are also from employees of the company.
>>18601501I wouldn't rule it out, but it's also my actual opinion after trying on 80 billion watches and I am not paid off (I denounce the talmud).

>>18598714Hello guys, my Citizen Weekender has a cracked face after I dropped it in a gravel parking lot, and I need reccs for a watch. I have an ecodrive Classic, got it for a steal (90 dollars) and it's my black band watch. Preferably something with a brown strap and gold body maybe? Also it needs to be Citizen, I really like the ecodrive feature. Sub 500 dollars pls
>>18601809It's hard to deny timex is killing it.
>>18601549>>18601550I said don't seethe, yet you seethe. You guys are just too shy to get the technician to properly size your bracelet in the store and/or too scared to do it yourself.Tool-less Micro adjust is for retards.>Wake up, put on watch, it's loose.>Tighten it with tool-less micro adjust.>Walk outside, loosen in.>Get in car with AC, tighten it.>etc. etc.Or you can just size the bracelet properly and it'll always be OK.
>>18601942Are you fucking stupid? You size it so that the midpoint of wrist expansion/contraction is the midpoint of the microadjust.>it'll always be OKOr it won't and you'll want it looser or tighter? It's just more comfortable. That's the entire point.Maybe your wrists just don't swell/contract very much compared to many people. Some people actually spend time outside beyond walking out to their car and then back indoors.
>>18601953Based on discussion with some other autist that was defending micro adjust in a /wt/, I'm starting to think people that don't lift, do pullups, or do dead hangs have a huge range of wrist expansion/contraction. If your arms are already juiced then you don't swell much.
>>18599034Whats your fun watch?
>>18599428My buddy has that steel Casio and it looks way better than it should for $28
>>18601809ref?
>>18601942>Or you can just size the bracelet properly and it'll always be OK.Do you honestly believe the micro adjustment is a REPLACEMENT for removing links? Even the widest range of micro adjustment is usually less than the width of a single link. You still have to remove links anyway unless your wrist is gargantuan. Here’s how it works at a Rolex AD.>you get your watch>the guy sets the clasp to midway in the adjustment then removes links (or moves them from 6 to 12) until you’re comfortable>the last step is the micro adjustment to get it perfect and still give you a range.>then he’ll tell you, “your wrist will swell a little in summer and shrink a little in winter” and make sure you know how to use the micro adjustment.
>>18602159it's a troll, ignore it
>>18602159Then there’s the watches that inexplicably offer no microadjust or even a half-link.That’s why I had to get rid of my Cartier Santos. It was either too loose or too tight, no matter what I did.Even the first Santos from the late 70s had two positions of adjustment in its tiny clasp. (It was the old-style kind where you needed a toothpick or pin to reposition a spring bar.)
>>18602159>>18602197lol at you lanklets that aren't PUMPED every single day.
Pick one.
>>18602324I love JLC’s chrono movements, even though the alarm diver is more classic.
why is the deepsea challenge an oyster perpetual? what the fuck does oyster perpetual even mean i thought it was just the "oyster perpetual" and the datejust
>>18602355Oyster is the waterproof case.Perpetual means it's automatic.Superlative chronometer means Rolex guarantees a better accuracy than COSC' standards.FUN FACT: my nigga Hans Wilsdorf picked the name "Oyster" because it's aphrodisiac and he wanted to pander to the sex-havers demographic.
>>18602376He also put the number of world records rolex has on the caseback for no reason other then fun.
>>18602376ok smart man, what about> officialy certifiedhuh? it's so fucking stupid to be honest>sex-haverspicrelcaptcha: JPN SA
>>18602480>officially certifiedPeople often think these two words are redundant but they're not."Certified" means a third-party authority (the COSC, in this case) has tested and validated the accuracy of the movement inside the watch."Officially" means that third-party authority is recognized by the state of Switzerland, where Rolex watches are made and assembled.
The watch threads need to combine back into /wt/, all three generals are so fucking slow these days
>>18601942Having finer adjustment is always welcome
>>18602540Not when it bulks up the clasp to LOLEX levels. The clasp shouldn't be so big.
Who did this
>>18602496it doesn't help imo1 rolex goes beyond cosc on its own, no one else does "superlative" certification, therefore no "institution" here2 why don't they say "officially swiss made" or "officially 300m" - I mean, why they mention that the underlying cosc cert is from an official institution, like, you can get a fake cosc?
>>18602496>third-party authoritybut it's not.>within our manufacture is found our Superlative Control: a dedicated unit devoted to testing them allFrom the page on their website about the words on their dials. (they don't bother explaining "officially certified" btw, probably because it's meaningless)https://www.rolex.com/watchmaking/excellence-in-the-making/hallmarks-of-excellenceAlso on that page:>“Oyster”. The very word evokes water resistance.lolwut. No, it doesn't.

>>18602682Why would that make you an idiot?
Morning
>>18602668>they don't bother explaining "officially certified" btwBut they do.https://newsroom.rolex.com/watches/oyster-collection/oyster-perpetual>The precision of every movement – officially certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) – is tested a second time by Rolex after being cased, to ensure that it meets criteria that are far stricter than those of the official certification. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is in the order of −2/+2 seconds per day – the rate deviation tolerated by the brand for a finished watch is significantly smaller than that accepted by COSC for official certification of the movement alone. They also say so in the booklet you get with your watch.
>>18602787>They also say so in the booklet you get with your watch.i can't afford a rolex, how could i have known that
>>18602480
>>18602790>i can't afford a rolexkek
>>18602750If I remember correctly, the previous owner of Stowa retired and the quality has gone way downhill. They might have corrected course by now, but I didn’t bother to check.
>>18602878Looked into it and the quality is unchanged but the new owner doesn't shitpost on forums like the old guy. Seems better than Laco.
>>18602521>all three generals are so fucking slow these daysThere are like 12 watch threads in the catalogue right now. Most of these are made by the same retard who also keeps bumping them.
>>18602787>https://newsroom.rolex.com/watches/oyster-collection/oyster-perpetual> The Oyster Perpetual’s movements are beautifully finished and decoratedimpressive, very nice, now use sapphire for the case back
and compare with jlc or even omega or iwc
also, why even do cosc if they re-do it on their own merits?
>>18603060Bro give it a rest. Stop trying to find a justification. It's popular OK? You don't fucking fill every thread asking about the value proposition of a Labubu. It's popular and it's shit. Many such cases. iPod phone, Labubu, just accept it and move on.
>>18603060>also, why even do cosc if they re-do it on their own merits?Because if they didn't do it, you'd come here and say "HAHA ROLEX ISN'T EVEN COSC CERTIFIED LMAO POOLEX"And also they probably get some tax reductions or some shit. Sending 1.3 millions of movements every year for testing necessarily creates hundreds of jobs.
Let's all laugh at the datecucks who will have to set the date of their shitters tomorrow
