Only other ones I was even considering based off the notes were Apple Brandy and maybe Blue Moon– but I'm honestly not a big fan of aldehydes. Either way I'm not in any rush to sample them for now.
>>18604804Like a combo of green powdery booze. Its hard to describe, it's very much its own thing
I have now finished sampling every BeauFort frag. Poasting thoughts below>Vi Et Armisincredibly strong. extremely smoky, but I can detect a little bit of tea, resin, and I think booze somewhere underneath.6/10>Coeur de Noirdamp grass and woods shrouded in thick smoke again.5/10>Lignum Vitaesome sort of smoky gingerbread cookie and lemon, and soil? Warm and christmas-like, with a very faint gourmand element8/10>Fathom Vvery similar to Vi Et Armis, but seems to have an aquatic element with a cumin note somewhere.7/10>Tonnerresmoke overload yet again; this is like a campy, wet bonfire with greens or florals somewhere underneath. It's okay6/10>Iron Dukedusty leather, liquor, and smoke. almost like if you sent an Antaeus twink to the front lines to die a horrible death9/10>Rake and/or Ruinliterally smells like jalapeno peppers in the air at first application. Nice drydown of dusty, smoky, peppery, citrus.7/10>Acrasiacitrus-fougere in the air, dry wood and wine/leather up close. the opening is pretty shrill, but there's a lot of variation throughout 8/10>Absent Presencespicy/boozy citrus with amber. vanillic drydown, almost oriental. has more in common with rose-ouds and BR540 than it does with the rest of the BeauFort catalogue.6/10>Terror & Magnificencesurprisingly muted and intimate in terms of performance. quiet, gothic, and relaxing. Smoke, pine, tar.8/10>Sirenidestrong plastic note with florals, leather, and other unidentifiable and weird one-off notes. seems to be more of a concept piece than anything else7/10>The Grudgea weird, sweaty aquatic. like glue and wet paper, or a damp, used bath towel that you picked up and smelled for some reason. gay5/10>Pyroclasmsweet, synthetic, aquatic. almost bordering on a freshie, which is weird considering the rest of BeauFort's work7/10>Cape Wraththe safest release from BeauFort so far. a gentle and fresh aquatic-citrus. shockingly short lived, literally almost zero longevity.7/10
>>18604852overall i award beaufort a 6.85/10.their first collection is too overpowered with the gunpowder notes, although I understand that it is their gimmick. to their credit, they do it very well, but to a fault where you cannot enjoy the rest of the composition.their second collection seems to be their highest regarded, and it's easy to see why. they really came into their own here and struck a careful balance, with the exception of Absent Presence which sucks.their last collection is too detached from what I envisioned and hoped beaufort would be. i hope that they don't continue on that avenue, they're better than that.
>>18604803>EnvyGucci Envy in reality is a ginger gourmand poorly disguised as a woody tobacco fragrance. Once you accept it for what it is it becomes more enjoyable and you explore its other facets. I read someone describe Gucci Envy as animalic which was the dumbest thing I ever hear, but I just spayed it and it's all I can smell.>IncenseIt's Insensé, French for insane, like the guy in the advert. The problem with it is that it's just not very good, it's too much like a generic cleaning product. Its greatest accomplishment is making a unique white floral for men. Funny that the marketing is so bright jovial when I actually think of it as a dark, serious, gothic scent.
>arabian ouddo they have anything interesting or the entire brand is overpriced arab goyslop?
Ralph Lauren Polo tech tree is the one that fucks. Simply good and decent smells so far, yet to try the green one. Fair price too.Blind bought Bulgari Glacial Essence and Hugo Boss Hugo '21 (edt). They are alright, the latter is rather relevant in this month as it smells like pine needles and resin. Bulgari is a bit simple for it's price thoIf anyone had Kouros, how does it really smell? Reading conflicting opinions on that one all the time.
>>18604907Kouros has strong honey mixed with herbals and animalic notes. It's kind of soapy and dirty at the same time, inexperienced noses associate kouros with porta potty which is not 100% false but people are people always exaggerate that aspect. This is one of these heavier frags that smell better during warmer weather (but not like 95 degrees) cause heat opens it up, when it's cold it pretty much smells like a grandpa with negative T and like old soap. When it's warm it's very masculine but also timeless, frags like moss and leather can get old but this is different. From my experience you need to feel good to pull it off properly, you have to be relaxed and feel confident.
Le male aficionados, tell me about the vintage. Should I seek a BPI? I like the scent of the Parfum, haven't smelled the original but I hear it's a banger.
Are people here actually into niche fragrances? Here is my collection. I'll probably sell neroli, shukran and sacreste soon. Neroli is totally fine, but just abit meh. The other scents I don't really like to put on.I adore Kashmir. Love the vanilla sawdust vibes. Song for a Wanderer is very interesting but sometimes abit funky. Very earthy and smells abit different everytime i put it on. Terre d'Hermes and Pine&Sandelwood are great everyday scents, although Pine is sometimes abit to soapy, sandalwoody.
>>18604852>almost like if you sent an Antaeus twink to the front lines to die a horrible deathKek. Thanks for that Anon. >literally smells like jalapeno peppersHoly shit Anon, I thought I was crazy when that was the scent I got from it as well. >>18604854I was literally just saying in the last thread when I was first introduced to them and slightly later realized which frags were part of which group, I’m surprised they survived to the second set, but am thoroughly glad they did. >their second collection seems to be their highest regardedAgreed, I think their claim to fame is Tonnerre just due to its audacity, but I think Iron Duke is their best frag with the other group 2’s shortly behind it save AP which they seemed to have been phoned in. Unfortunately I think they’re struggling to make new (good) releases that stick to their naval theming, and so on group 3 they’re really flopping.
>>18604877>arab goyslop>Chuckleable
>>18605024>Are people here actually into niche fragrancesNo, I'm not a manchild with a bandshirt.
>>18605024All niche gets cloned by designer eventually
>>18605058>No need to waste money on niche slop again. There's a range of placebo effects that take place in the consumer's mind. Like how the more you pay for an aspirin or painkiller, the better people report it works. Same for wine, the same wine tastes better if people are told it's more expensive. I'm sure something like that happens in the frag world as well.
Confession time: I only wear fresh scents. Not necessarily aquatics or showergel type frags, but still fresh. Even in winter. I don't like overly sweet frags like gourmands. And all the stuff recommended for fall and winter is usually pretty heavy and pretty sweet. I like it lighter and fresher. I think fresh scents always work whereas heavy stuff usually only works when it's cooler. And since I work indoors I am very rarely exposed to cold weather for longer periods. My standard rotation consists of 3 frags. Esencia EDP by Loewe, Orage by Louis Vuitton, Percival by PdM. On really hot days I also like to wear Agua El by Loewe.
Any other perfumes like Stairway to Heaven? Looking for frags that smell like they are sparkling.

Everything vanilla smells the same to me, even arab clones jfc
>>18604820>>18604393What should I get then? I'm looking for a niche fresh fragrance. Ideally something new/released recently.
Can someone give me a rundown of which perfumes you should use for which situation and why? I got decision paralysis in the past, but finally bought some on black Friday.I have D&G The One EDP, D&G Devotion EDP, Blue de Chanel EDP, and a sampler of Blue de Chanel l'Exclusif. I bought them because I like the way they smell on me, but in which situations should I wear each one? Would any of these be poor choices for work, the bar, or a date night? I'm a 25 year old guy. Also, does anyone wear fragrances to bed or should I just get some essential oil and a diffuser?
What's a good clone for this?
>>18605549You can check a site like parfumo or fragrantica for how people like to use the fragrance. I don't usually agree but if you have no idea it's a good start. For me everything is fair game except I avoid heavy and intense fragrances in the heat. Some scents are clearly best for a dinner date but I wear whatever I want to smell. Try things out, the scent itself tell me what it's best suited for.I don't shower at night so whatever lingers from the day or if I'm trying something at night is what I go to be with. Ideally nothing.
>>18605544Vanilla is one of the most tenacious ingredients, it's common in high doses in modern perfumes because consumers demand longevity. Once you get past the top and mid notes a lot of what remains is the same vanilla+ambrox cocktail. I was going to say to try some vintage perfumes but they also do a vanilla+amber+patchouli mix that smells similar. All I can say is to look for stuff where vanilla is not very dominant. I actually avoid modern vanilla+ambrox because they can last weeks and months on clothes or surfaces. I don't like smelling a perfume longer than a day.

Hey guys, I'm just getting into wearing fragrance.I've had 2 fragrances gifted to me a long time ago that I have worn a handful of times and wasn't really a fan - Light Blue pour Homme Dolce&Gabbana and Light Blue Eau Intense Pour Homme Dolce&Gabbana.I've finally decided to find a scent for myself that I enjoy, so I bought a Montblanc Explorer premium (thinking it was regular explorer) sampler and I love it. I also bought a sampler of versace dylan blue, aventus creed, and regular montblanc explorer. I don't really know how to talk about fragrances but I'm loving the warmth, sweetness, and muskiness of the explorer premium. Based on that, what fragrances would you recommend?

mL/$ for samples is atrociousI'm with >>18606266 in that I never buy samples
>>18606224>>18606266>>18606272This is such a foreign mindset to me. I’d rather be able to enjoy a large variety of many small ‘bites’ rather than be stuck to a singular bottle. Particularly considering you admit yourself most you don’t like, so don’t waste the money on 50-100 mls when you can find out you don’t like something with only 2 ml. >rather have a mediocre bottle than a bunch of empty samples like a junkie's discarded needles. Not discarding your trash is an unbecoming quality at any social status, and completely unrelated to buying samples.

>>18606275>>18606278this is my dilemma here though, (samefagging), I bought a proper glass of perfume then saw a sample in the store page the next day. Tried it, it's nothing extra for the price. My first thought is,>I could have saved the money if I tried the sample first. So a non-perfect perfume bothers me even more than kilograms of sample packs. At least I know which to buy of them in larger version. Two wolves live inside me, both are jewish.
>>18606275Samples used to be great. You would get them for free, multiple ones too, they would just mail them to you. Paying for samples is just the most retarded thing possible. I've done it, I've paid a lot for samples, I've made that mistake, but when you get just a couple sprays from a sample and your paying for it, it just doesn't add up. The worst part is when you like the sample, then you buy the bottle and they don't smell the same.
Sampling is very important. You need multiple samplings of a scent to determine if it fits your profile. I had a sample of Millesime Imperial, was considering a bottle, but I sampled the last few drops yesterday (high heat) and realized I don't want to smell like melons. You really need to fork out to determine what actually suits you as a person, this is a tedious but rewarding task. Otherwise just buy the basic designers and be done with it. Sauvage, Le Male, Dylan Blue, Aventus, Eros, Bleu de Chanel, Myslf etc..My go to's are: Antaeus, Hacivat X, Paco Rabbane pour Homme (vintage) currently. I still have plenty of samples on the way too, so my go to's could change.Current samples on the way:Aventus Absolu + Cologne Wulong ChaRoyal oudReflection Man

>>18606313>You need multiple samplings of a scent to determine if it fits your profile. This contradicts buying samples because a sample is usually not enough to make any meaningful determination. At least get a travel size.

First impressions of these two highly praised frags.Boss bottle elixir.Opening remind me somehow of Dior Homme, first parfum then original (probably the cardamom). I don't get the comparison with sausage elixir...Dries down to annoyingly strong dark spicy woods reminding me of Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée without the iris and musk. In that realm anyhow.Boss bottle absoluDark chocolatey patchouli. Myrrh. Something kind of sauer or fruity in that background. Better than elixir, but not particularly memorable. Modern perfumery is a joke. I don't know how these are so highly praised, maybe they get better with maceration. Both get mogged hard by something like Dior Homme parfum. >This smells like niche quality! No it doesn't.
when bois imperial dried down on me I got a ton of black pepper off it and seemed to work really well on me, any recs for something with black pepper?
Genuinely is there any online store besides Notino in Europe that's reliable and trustworthy? I want to buy Amouage Journey Man but I see lots of reviews of sites selling fakes. I live in the Netherlands
>>18607411Genuine discussions in these threads are basically dead / a waste of time, so I’m not sure why I’m bothering but here I am doing it anyway so not sure why I’m complaining. Anyway…>This smells like niche quality!Let’s start with this, it’s a bullshit statement all around. Good brands can make shit frags, shit brands can make good frags, you can’t make blanket statements about (almost, kek) anything. And it’s further irritating because when I first got into frags I viewed the word “niche” as small, artisanal brands like Rogue, Tauer, Nicolai, etc. but it has now been co-opted by overpriced designers like Tom Ford, PdM, Creed, or even worse shit like Mind Games so it has essentially lost all meaning, because people equate the word with expensive brands. I try and differentiate artisanal and niche when possible, but most people don’t care.
>>18607411>>18607494That diatribe aside, I preferred Elixir over Absolu, it smelled like it was intended as a variant of ACDD where they dialed up the smoke and cedar and dialed back some of the oriental elements while still keeping them a strong factor. Absolu on the other hand seems like it was trying to be a touch more mass appealing because it opens with that off-sweet grape-ish scent that Stronger With You did first and Azzaro’s The Most Wanted copied. You can even find it very early in Myslf but it’s much more faint and short lived. Purely speculation on my part, but I think it’s brands trying to do what PerfumAnon talked about where they use MethylAnthranilate as a Schiff base to extend certain notes, but it always has the side effect of a adding a slight grape-ish smell to the scent. Anyway, then it goes into the earthy chocolate patchouli leather past the top notes. It wasn’t bad, but I prefer how Azzaro handles the grape adjacent scent profiles, and I prefer the smoke and woods of Elixir to the earthen patchouli of Absolu. Personal preference most likely, but I say this as someone who can enjoy Tonnerre. Elixir caught a ton of hype when it was first released, but Absolu has outshined it by far in regard to public appeal. I think heavy smoke like in Elixir is just less mass appealing.
>>18607455TdH has a bit of pepper without being the star element, similar to Bois in the sense of have a bit of pepper without being the focus. If you want full on black pepper you could look into CdG 2 Man, Wonderwood, or literally Blackpepper.
I use to wear picrel daily when I was about 18>22. Was/is this a good fragrance or was it a horrible choice? Think I got it for about 40 euros but that was on sale.
>>18607515Good choice if you are a homosexual I guess.
>>18607515Do you really mean the EdP, or did you mean the EdT? The EdP, your picture, is only ~5 years old as it is, and if you got it on sale it probably wasn’t a recent release, which means Eros already had its well established fuccboy reputation. If you meant the EdT on the other hand, and you actually got it near to when it was released, that fine, it was huge back then. But it’s definitely dated by popular standards now-a-days. None of this really matters tho. Do you enjoy it Anon? Wear fragrance for you, not for others.

I finally stopped by the department store to try all the meme scents, Eau Sauvage, TDH, Dior Homme, Oud Wood, LNDL, Acqua di Gio, Stronger with You, YSL Y, Tuxedo, Babycat, BR540, Gentle Fluidity, Layton, Fico di Amalfi, GIT, Aventus, Original Vetiver, Gypsy Water, Mitsouko, Shalimar, Delila, Paradigm, etc., basically everything I recognized. I have heard about all of them but never got to try them. I think my vintage perfumes spoiled me because I didn't like any of them. A lot of them had the showy dinner date or club appeal, I like more natural and casual scents. Some were overly sweet, some were synthetic, and shared similar profiles. All modern mainstream perfumery seems creatively and morally bankrupt. It doesn't matter if it's designer or "niche", it's all trash. I'll stick with my vintage collection, I falsely thought I might be missing out by avoiding middling modern perfumes. Turns out I made the right choice, as usual.SOTD Ungaro pour L'Homme, it only lasts a couple hours but it makes me feel so cozy after my morning shower. It's powdery and floral, very nice.

Finally trying my sample of Armani Code Elixir. It's surprisingly quite leathery so far. Almost like the modern Code Parfum meets Gucci Guilty Absolute. It's quite nice, really. I actually prefer it over Sauvage Elixir so far, but we'll see how it dries down. It's very masculine by today's standards.
