SOTD Musc Ravageur
>>
>>18607763
It's not bad, just underwhelming considering the raving reviews.
I get the comparison to Layton now, it has a similar apple vibe, but with smokey resins instead of sweet vanilla. So not exactly ground breaking, kind of simple, scent profile with less character compared to Layton, which is why I said it wasn't memorable. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, everything doesn't have stand out with extravagance and uniqueness.

>I have half a bottle left how should I ration it.
I know it was a gift but if you don't like it sell it. If you are intent on keeping it just wear it and enjoy it, don't hold back. I got a sealed 50ml I could have gotten $300-$400 dollars for but I'm glad I opened it and use it. If we don't get to enjoy things what's the point of anything.
>Also why the fuck is it so expensive, it's only(tm) a nice office type smell, not a pantie dropper
Armani Mania is the perfect storm of discontinued scents. It's a casual scent that works in a lot of situations so you can just wear it as a signature or only fragrance. The performance is mediocre so you can really go through a bottle fast wearing it daily. If it was something that lasted you would probably be set with a single bottle for life. There are also no alternatives or clones people can recommend, so if you like it enough your options are limited. And finally it's by Turkdijon, one of most well known perfumers today.
>if it was so loved why the fuck was it discontinued or not brought back
It's loved because it's discontinued so people who like hunt them down. If it was brought back it would be seen as an overrated middling fragrance. There are so many amazing fragrances available today that go under the radar and people take for granted that if they were discontinued would garner the same desirability and go for crazy prizes. When mania was around it didn't make enough money for Armani to keep in rotation. Sometimes this is due to the costs, sometimes it's due to sales. In the end it's always about money.

Looking for a sweet year round frag that works well in colder weather for mid 30's male.
Not into vanilla/bakery stuff, heavy florals or even woody.

Speaking of overpriced discontinued fragrances, I got a bottle of Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Libre. I didn't even know this thing existed, just ran across it. I get why it wasn't popular, it has a very similar pepper note found in many popular fragrances of the time and today. I was looking forward to the violet note but it's only briefly present in the middle. The core of the fragrance is white pepper but everyone would recognize a similar pepper note in many other fragrances. That, combined with the unremarkable performance was a recipe for discontinuation. It project well but it only lasts on clothes, not bad but probably not what is expected. Overall it's a nice fragrance but nothing that stands out compared to other similar ones. I get some woody smoky notes with the pepper and a decent amount of sweetness. I was expecting a fresh natural cologne scent but this was a herald of the more elegant, synthetic, sensual fragrance landscape we have today.

Now I know you’re retarded. The Vetiver Parfum smells nothing like the EDT, the EDT is a complex fresh fragrance with tobacco and citrus. The Parfum is an oddly dark, sweet and stale interpretation.

L’Homme Ideal Parfum is definitely not the worst in the line. The leather tempers the sweetness and makes it somewhat wearable — and it smells similar to the EDT. The cherry powder garbage of the EDP is a lot worse than the Parfum because it is way sweeter and gayer.

Ultimately I wouldn’t buy any of the Parfums but you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I shit you not in 40 years of life I have never went through a full bottle of edt or edp, have been gifted basically 1 per year since 18years old from the folks and still have every single one in the back of a press, mostly all 3/4 full too with some other less interesting discontinued and 'older formula' bottles.

Pour Lui smells incredibly dated. I have a vintage decant, it's ok, but definitely I wouldn't recommend wearing. It's like wearing a costume every now and then. The song "out of touch" by Hall and Oats literally runs through my head when I wear it, it has that vibe. I would say it's a 6/10, good for a novelty.
>>18608411
Already have a vintage bottle. It's great, only downside it can come off as too mature.
>>
>>18608484
what makes it being "dated" a bad thing? how is it any more dated than antaeus itself? you confuse me, anon
>>
>>18608504
Reformulated fragrances such as kouros and Antaeus have been freshened up and slightly modified to modernize them. This is why I can literally wear Antaeus to the gym.

Dated fragrances fall into two categories:
>Those with “old-man stink”
>Timeless masterpieces

“Smelling dated” often gets mistaken for the former, so when curating vintage gems, prioritize the ones least tied to that old-man vibe.
>>
>>18608510
perhaps its your vintage decant then that gives you that opinion then. my bottle is the current formulation
>>
I chanced across a very interesting brief one of my colleagues received, detailing a fragrance comprised of leather and osmanthus. That made me start thinking how unusual a combination of that sort is, I myself having only encountered a handful of times, prominently in Guidance. I think Osmanthus, at least its Woody Ionone aspects juxtapose themselves wonderfully with the succulent peachy ripe aldehyde and lactone characteristics that the flower displays. The leather in Guidance was mostly comprised of some reisins and musks and most importantly the famous Isobutyl quinoline whose sappy green and somewhat rooty herbaceous characteristics go along well with other floral components. Now a question to you all, what do you think is an underrated combination?

Did 7 sprays of Explorer today at 2 PM before going to hang out with some friends. Just got home 10 hours later, can’t smell it at all, but getting in the elevator up to my apartment with another rando guy, never met him before, and he asks what my cologne is and literally watched him pull out his phone and write it down, even asked me to spell out Montblanc.
Was half tempted to gatekeep it and say I don’t know, or lie and say Aventus, but I really don’t care that much.

smoke/incense + mint, wood + mint... maybe darker type of tabacco like kentucky + mint

Meo Fusciuni fragrances are very serious and artful, and a bit somber almost. I liked both Little Song (musky coffee) and Shukran (bitter realistic mint).

I like Tobacco Vanille. The more sweet tobaccos I try (I’ve tried dozens) the more I appreciate it. I think they rendered the tobacco accord really well and it still smells good. You should probably just sample it at any local mall.

Pasha parfum. It splits the difference between light and dark and leans into the amber side of barbershop. you like DHP and the dark side so you'll probably like that amber. You would also probably like Guerlain's L'Homme ideal Intense/EdP/Extreme but all three have different vibes. Intense is the lightest of the three near naxos, EdP is in the middle and extreme is darkest but also a bit powdery like DHP.

I've recently been trying new colognes and the such, I've used D&C THE ONE for a while since I got it from someone and didn't care too much.
After trying like 6 different ones on me at the store I really can't tell what I like. they all just smell "good". I tend to like smooth lavender-ish ones but they feel gay to me. the more "manly" smelling ones like YSL Y edp feel like if I'd wear them nonstop I'd just get a permanent headache. Although I still might try running it for a while to see if that's just me being schizo at the store.
any recommendations for good men perfume that aren't Dior Sauvage and won't make woman puke? my ex liked the one I have but apparently people don't like it that much.

Everything at the store smells the same, it's like shopping for paint at a store that only sells shades of blue. Fragrance products are more popular amongst women but they don't have the capacity to be "enthusiasts" or enjoy a hobby. Since culturally women are expected to focus more on how they are perceived they get into fragrances earlier than men and that's one of the reason they have better noses than men. They only care about the positive effect of the fragrance not the process of it. Women want fragrances for their nose, men want fragrances for their brain. Women don't care about pre-ifra oakmoss chypre and men don't care about viral vanilla clean scents.

Just tried it out for the first time. Sprayed it on an inner elbow since I already have something else on and I'm not a layerfag. Also, no idea how much it costs, but I'm assuming $600+

First impression; I like it. Although no surprise since OG Tygar is one of my favorite scent profiles.

I'm not the best scent descriptor, but I'll do my best. 10-15min in and it smells similar enough to the original, however there does seem to have a very slight smokey(?) element. What stood out to me the most initially was a sweetish note that I don't remember being present in the original. Made me think of Hedonist Extrait, so the first thing that came to mind was perhaps lychee. Not as overpowering as Hedonist though, and does seem to be simmering down a bit as it dries down.

I only have a few, excluding all the ones where rose is listed but you can't actually detect it. Fairly common to see rose in the note breakdown of older fragrances so don't be fooled.

>Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose
The benchmark for rose fragrances for decades. If you like rose, you will like this. If you don't like rose, it only costs $15 to figure that out.
>Toy Boy
Synthetic sweet rose and fruity pear forward fragrance. A little controversial online but I get compliments on this one in real life all the time.
>Gucci Guilty Pour Homme EDP
Has a very nice freshly cut rose note but that note only lasts an hour or so. Overall a good option but it does settle down into a generic shopping mall scent.
>Rochas Moustche
Much more pink pepper than rose, but the rose is there. Doesn't last very long, though. The dry down is all patchouli and vanilla.
>Bade'e Al Oud Amethyst
Classic rose and oud combo. There are lots of fragrances that do this same thing at all different price points. It's the quintessential middle eastern rose and spices smell.

There are truly no modern great citrus forward fragrances. Everything has one or a combination of these issues:
>abrasive
>poor longevity
>shitty ISO-E Super (disgusting)
>poor composition

The best I stand by is Eau De Rochas Homme. Even that has a touch of lemon cleaner smell, if it were more natural smelling it would be 10/10.

I just tried Wulong Cha and it's far too abrasive in the opening, very sharp lemon/neroli. The drydown is much softer turning into leaves and a hint of floral. It's similar to Castle Forbes Neroli Reserve, however doesn't have the bitter orange in the opening. I think Neroli Reserve is better, but that's not even a very good fragrance in itself.
