The Best Watch editionThis thread offers a forum to discuss and debate wristwatches, pocket watches, and clocks. Several members here are highly knowledgeable in specified areas of horology, so please contribute to the thread by asking questions and/or asking for advice if you are planning on purchasing a watch from an AD or the grey market. Please post pics of your watches here; it doesn't matter if it's worth 5$ or 50000$, because there might be someone who wishes to eventually purchase the same model that you own and would love to hear some real-world advice regarding ownership. The experience matters the most, not the price.Everyone is welcome in this thread, because we are all Frens here.Previous Based Thread: >>18632229

I was just wondering which watches would help me even a little bit to get some jap pussy. Is it true they know grand Seiko over there because of that baseball player?
>>18634285Good stuff there. Don't take any shit over it. You buy what you like and you don't overpay. It's a solid collection and anyone who insults it is insecure with himself.
>>18634290Virtual signaling on /wt/.Now I've seen everything
>>18634291Virtual signaling? Even 'virtue signaling' isn't what's happening here. You don't know what words mean.
>>18634291It's preemptive support. We know that people are going to mock his collection as containing "shitters". It's the beginning of the thread and there are plenty of snobs yet to stop by and levy their snooty opinions from on high. I'm just reminding everyone that those are dickless chickenshits. All of the respectable watch personalities will tell you the same thing. There's no justification for all this "no good watches under $500" mindset. It's pervaded the board for too long. So even if by chance someone shows off their Rolex with a timestamp and claims that they are actually a classy guy and still laughs at a shitter collection, you can be sure that guy didn't earn a dime of his money and probably hasn't ever fucked. Not a single decent and successful person judges someone on their watch collection.
Women will never notice your watch.
>>18634298They may notice it but they'll have no idea of the brand or the status of it. Women notice accessories though. When I was 24 or so a women let me know how important a man's shoes are. They're looking at everything about you. If you have a classy but not too flashy watch you'll get some points for it. You can't be fidgeting with it and bringing attention to it though, and I'm thinking watch nerds are probably hyper aware and doing that.
>>18634309I've gotten way too many compliments about my shoes. It's true.
>>18634298False. A girl once saw my G Shock and went "ew"

>>18634333That's pretty cool. That's something.
>>18634358NTA but why does a pocketknife need to be one long piece of metal down to the bottom of the handle? I don't need a fucking sheath on my belt. What the fuck am I doing in my life that a pocketknife can't fold and won't fit in my pocket? Am I some survivalist hacking down brambles? And how can you tell the thickness of his laptop and why is thin crappy? And I never thought I'd be defending that type of watch but clearly anon has a style going and his watch --along with the fact that he believes one watch is "all you need"-- fits that aesthetic of metallic and silver. While not really for me, that style works together. And maybe it is for me. I'm liking that watch more and more. And I could test drive shitter versions of it for cheap. These are my pocketknives and my new watch I'm breaking in.

>>18634414The fit of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo. I’ve wondered if anyone ITT has one.The lug-to-lug is only 45mm or so. Is it supposed to fit like a cuff bracelet or something?
>>18634405Why don’t you clean your mirror Take windex , spray the very top of you’d mirror , let it drip down a little . Then take a paper towel and do a Z motion from one side all the way to the other side. CONTINUOUSLY. From the top all the way to the bottom
>>18634417>Is it supposed to fit like a cuff bracelet or something? That’s exactly how it’s supposed to fit. It looks huge on everyone but it actually fits smaller wrists quite well. The end links drop straight down. They aren’t restricted like the Royal Oak bracelet.

>>18634638Best looking version of the regular production Speedmaster Professional line for sure but let's be honest, there's a reason the regular Sneedies have a fairly soft used market: it's pretty chunky (for a manual wound watch) with a slow beat rate and barely 2 days of power reserve. Plus they make a million of them per year. Basically babby's first nice watch.Still; I like the plain design and you can pick one up any day of the week as a walk-in.

>>18634896I'm thinking the mint or racing green or the red not pictured. Any are cool though. There are other colors available for full price too. I saw a video for them and the reversing speedometer minutes is so cool.
Can't change the strap out and I don't think I want the grey that comes on the mint and the red. I like max legibility and the dark green really pops. Goddammit I've got to stop buying so many fucking watches. Be damned if I'm paying $300 though. I figure I just sent back an expensive pair of shoes and if I don't replace them I can justify this watch. Also if I don't replace a shitter I just sent back. That actually totally covers the cost. I just need to choose now. I won't get the watch until at least March too. It seems big also. It's 39mm and 44mm lug-to-lug, but it takes up space on the wrist differently than a 39mm round case with slender 44mm lugs. This fucker is ALL LUG. I just don't know if I can pull it off. I guess I could resell it if I can't build wrist muscles or get fat. It's a tall piece of watch.
I was just thinking. On a quartz watch like that you really shouldn't have to adjust the time very often. You've got exposed buttons there that you never use. Does anyone know of any watches that have recessed setting buttons or ones you have to open the watch to set? I think that'd be cool for a really accurate watch to have the added sleekness and smoothness of no buttons.

And even G-Shocks have that for people who love them. I'm sure I'll get one for my collection someday. I have the $20 Casio, I'm about to buy a gold Griffy with red display. But other than that I'm an analog clock guy. I just can't get enough watches. I love them. And there are a lot of great cheap watches that meet or exceed my expectations. But the light on some models is so strong that it actually charges the lume a bit, especially if it's close to fading out completely. It's a fun and comfy little interaction of the features, I like it a lot.
Is there a Santos-Dumont style watch that doesn't require me to drop 10k on it, yet won't get me laughed out of the room for not being able to afford a real Cartier?
>>18635200No, but stretch your budget and get a real S-D. It’s a great watch. The quartz versions in particular are comfortable and incredibly thin. More versatile than you’d expect, as well.
>>18635212Aren't mechanical watches generally more desirable than quartz ones, since they take more skill to make?
>>18635216Generally, yes, but a watch like the Cartier sidesteps all that.1. Cartier has never been about movements, but about design 2. If they used a mechanical movement (like they do in the XL version) it becomes too large and still isn’t as thin as the quartz. In this case, no one can tell it’s quartz anyway since there’s no second hand to see tick. It’s about making a good looking watch and selecting a movement that fits it, not about appealing to gatekeeping spergs who would never be able to afford a Cartier anyway.
>>18635217That makes sense, actually. I can see what you're talking about. So even a quartz S-D is considered respectable as a dress watch, since it's still Cartier? That being said, presumably Santos-Dumont's original watch must have used a mechanical movement, since quartz watches hadn't been invented yet. How thick would that one be compared to modern watches of the line?
>>18635227The current quartz versions are 7mm thick. The vintage ones ranged in thickness because Cartier used all sorts of movements in them, so they can be anywhere from 5mm to 9mm thick. The ultra thin ones are rare and highly desirable, but they’re delicate. In terms of respect, a Cartier is a Cartier. No one will ever give you shit for wearing one. No one gives a rat’s ass about quartz versus mechanical. (Sticky online only people don’t count). It looks good, it’s elegant. You can wear it with a polo shirt if you want because it dresses down very easily.
>>18635200get the cartier tank instead
>>18635227Don't let these fuckers talk you into spending thousands on a watch. No one will laugh at you for not having a "real" Cartier. Most who even notice it will just think it's a kind of feminine watch, but classy. I don't know who you surround yourself with, but you don't need the real thing. At least get a shitter to test drive first and see if you like the look and feel. If you DO get the real thing, it's the least you can do to spend $40 tops to wear something similar.
>>18635232Any particular reason? I like the S-D connection back to one of the pioneers of aviation, Santos-Dumont himself.>>18635231Awesome, thanks for the advice. I think I might actually be able to afford a pre-owned one, just have to make sure I get a men's version and not a ladies'.
>>18635236>Awesome, thanks for the advice. I think I might actually be able to afford a pre-owned one, just have to make sure I get a men's version and not a ladies'.no prob. If you have a Cartier boutique or AD nearby, it wouldn’t hurt to go there and try on the pieces for yourself. S-D’s are square and don’t wear quite the same as round watches, so the sizing is not one-to-one. A 31mm S-D wears pretty similar to a 38mm round watch, for example.
>>18635236tank is less flashier and cheaper than the santosi find it more elegant and understated, while also suited for casual wear especially when on a bracelet
>>18635241I’m the opposite. I think the Tank is way flashier than the Santos-Dumont. It’s also way less versatile. No matter what, the Tank will always look like a dress watch.

>>18635296It's in mid-sweep in the picture. But it's not perfect on the tick vs. indices. About 80% of the seconds hand is aligned correctly. The crystal also kind of distorts the tick angle so it looks like it's missing the indices when it's really not if viewed from a more direct angle.Still, wanted an Eco-Drive Diver in green that was under 44mm (BN0158-00X was first choice but too big) and I won't need to adjust the bracelet again since it's quick adjust.

>>18635360Apparently a lot of them used to be. And honestly if you're spending less than $10 a lot of them still are. But they've come a long way, baby. Just consult YouTube. Even the snobbiest of reviewers give credit where credit's due for stuff like San Martin and IXDAO and some Sugess/SeaGull stuff. And mid-range ones like Addiesdive and Militado and Tandorio and even Pagani get a lot of "these really aren't that bad, people. For $50/70/110 you really get a lot of watch here." I've heard the bald Australian guy say it, the bald British guy who laughs when he talks, the weeb who lives in Japan, even Teddy. Every watch channel has videos where they're all astounded by the quality of some knockoff brand. Because the specs are there. You can't deny it and neither can they. And they will call it out when shit does suck. Literally no one who knows shit about watches would ever even in the last five years say anything like "Chinese watches are bad". There are hundreds of unbiased, unconnected reviews saying so. But admittedly there's a lot of shit to sift through on the Chinese watch sites. Just don't be hasty.Do your research and know basic dimensions and terminology, and then read reviews from buyers and watch videos (research) about the specific brand or even model you want. I shit you not, just about any watch you can buy you can find a video of some kind where someone is holding it, wearing it, and going through every bit of it with a fine toothed comb. >>18635925Sweet find. Congratulations. I bet it sets the time on its own and you can watch the hands turn.
The local jewelry stores don't sell watches and I'm just now realizing there are probably antique stores I should be hitting up. I don't need any more shit you find at big all purpose stores. I've bought a couple that way just because I wanted a watch immediately. I haven't checked out craigslist either. Not sure I wanna buy anything that way though.
Swiss watches are the best. Once you go Swiss, you never regret it. If you don't have a very high budget, but can save between $500 - $2000, I recommend looking into Baume Mercier, Longines, Rado, Maurice Lacroix, Frederique Constant, Certina, Tissot (pretty mainstream nowadays). All those brands are uncommon and you distinguish yourself from all normies who wear Seiko and fake Rollies/Pateks.Some German brands like Sinn, Bruno Söhnle, Glasshüte are also pretty good, especially the automatic ones.

>>18636077Why does this thread hate bittercel so much? He is unironically the best poster we have ever had. Here's my reasons:bittercel is always brutally honest. He is like water, he will find a crack in your watch and pour in from there. He is the criticism we need. You never get that in watchuseek or reddit, you only get an echo chamber of “nice watch, wear it in good health, champ” bullshit. Not with bittercel, he does not care for your feelings which is why he will tell you the truth. Yes, your watch is too big for you, yes it’s a shitter, yes the lugs look like shit, yes the movement is crap. You, as a critically thinking individual, should embrace this.We are all protected by anonymity here which is the point of this site. Avatarfags are pathetic going against this. Take reversocel for example; he couldn’t handle a bit of heat from bittercel and immediately fucked off to r/watches as soon as someone wasn’t sucking his cock over his shitters and pens lmfao.Yes, bittercel may seem bitter at first, but he is the counter force to all this circle-jerking in here. He is harsh but fair. You hold the fact he never posts a watch against him, but that is merely him not taking a side. He is not a brain-dead fanboy to brands (other than Rolex, but Rolex is Rolex). This way he maintains his unbiased position. And the best part of bittercel? He is always there for you, right here, in this thread.
>>18636196>spamming bullshitYou’re literally no different than the kofecels, Bittercel, aside from the fact that they actually own a watch and you’re posting from an Internet cafe in Jaipur.
Why can't Bittercel just buy a Casio F91W so that he has a watch to post?

>>18635436>financing 'luxury' goodsIs there a bigger indicator of a retarded peasant?
I'm genuinely torn between the SARB017 and SPB507 Alpinists. They're approximately the same price right now so it's been hard deciding which to grab. I don't like the cyclops on the SPB, but I'm planning to do the thing where you get a butane lighter, heat it up, and then scrape it off with a wooden scraper, and then you clean off the adhesive with Goo Gone. I do prefer closed case backs (which SARB has, with an engraving that I like) compared to open ones, but that's a low priority issue. I guess the main concern I have between the two is the dial text. On the older one, it doesn't have the Prospex logo (which I personally just don't like on it dial), but it also lacks the word "Alpinist" as well. On the newer model, it does say Alpinist in the style of the 90's version but I don't like the addition of "3 day" after automatic and the Prospex logo. I do like that the new one made the compass markers yellow instead of white so the general color balance of the dial blends more without being disrupted. I don't like that they put a clear ceramic coating on the steel case of the newer one, because it apparently can't be polished out once you do get scratches, making them permanent if they do occur. I do have larger wrists, averaging around 7.5 in, but I'm totally fine with the smaller case size of the older one, although either one won't be that different on me. I do like how the older one is slightly thinner as well. The bigger power reserve and likely cheaper maintenance of the newer one is appealing as well. The SARB has an engraved crown, which the SPB lacks. All in all, I'm still on the fence on which one to get. Which would you grab?
>>18636034That's going too far.
>>18636364I'm not going to be fully calm until mine shows up and I find out whether it's fake somehow or just stolen. Either way I don't risk anything because I can just get a refund. But I'm still mad that I pulled the trigger before properly researching what the watch was. I just saw a fancy Seiko for a really good deal. But it wasn't half off, it was like 75% off. TOO sweet a deal. And I'm going to need people's help to identify the legitimacy of it when it arrives, which is still another couple of weeks.I just don't like knowing I may have fallen for a scam. If it's the real deal, great. If it's not, I need to jump through a couple hoops to get the money back but I will. Either way, I'd never actually spend $650-$900 on a fucking Seiko. That much is for sure. And those are the prices I'm seeing those go for.The sooner this is all resolved the sooner I'll stop posting about it. Seller assured me with confidence that I needn't be concerned about it. So we'll see how that goes. Some anon on here said I could easily tell if it's legit by just looking at something printed on the back. But I may have a jeweler take the thing apart. Sorry about the blog. To answer your actual question I guess the one on the right is slightly more pleasing to my eye. I don't like the little balls sticking up on the left.

>>18636461Really? That's crazy. I just don't see the point of faking a three-figure watch. There can't be much profit if any in it.
>>18636463When you can shovel out frankenwatches for pennies on the dollar and get back $200-$800 USD, which converts back into massive amounts of your worthless currency, it becomes very viable. You'll even see this with $60 """vintage""" watches on Etsy where they'll just stamp "Seiko" on it in ink and people gobble them up. It's apparently lucrative enough to sustain itself for 3-4 years at this point, and it's only growing.
>>18636465I guess I just can't imagine them getting anything more than $150-200; above that I'd assume someone would just buy direct or from a reputable seller given the small delta between 'retail' price of a Seiko and an eBay price. But I guess if your currency is worth shit it could still be worth it if you otherwise have no employable skills.

>>18636480I like omega but I think they're asking too much for 100% machine made Chinese watch. And if what >>18634910 said is true, then I'd only buy 2nd hand at best.Go with the cartier or get an actual chronograph like a zenith.
>>18636491NO!
>>18636492based on multiple discussions and reports from watch enthusiast forums like WatchUSeek and Reddit, Omega appears to have updated the wording on their website regarding their manufacturing. Older versions (captured in screenshots shared by users around 2023) reportedly used phrasing like "Everything is made in Switzerland" or emphasized "all Swiss made" in sections describing their production process. The current site has shifted to simpler "Swiss Made" labels, which align with the legal Swiss Made certification rather than implying 100% Swiss origin for every component. This change seems to have occurred sometime before mid-2023, possibly in response to scrutiny over sourcing practices, though Omega hasn't publicly confirmed the reasoning.Regarding the rumors about the majority of Omega watch parts being produced in China and only assembled in Switzerland: There's substantial anecdotal evidence and some admissions supporting this for certain components, but it's not accurate to say the "vast majority" of parts are from China—it's more nuanced, focusing on non-core elements like bracelets, clasps, and some straps.
>>18636500Evidence for outsourcing: Numerous reports from owners, watchmakers, and forums (e.g., OmegaForums, WatchUSeek, TimeZone) dating back to at least 2012 describe replacement bracelets and spare links arriving with "Made in China" stickers, even from authorized dealers. In 2025, Omega's CEO Raynald Aeschlimann publicly acknowledged in interviews that bracelets are manufactured in Asia (including China) to control costs, while insisting that core components like movements are fully produced in their Swiss facilities (e.g., in Bienne and Villeret). YouTube videos and Reddit threads from 2025 amplify this, with users sharing photos of China-sourced parts. This doesn't violate Swiss Made laws, which (since a 2017 update) require at least 60% of the watch's manufacturing value to originate in Switzerland, with assembly and key technical development there—allowing up to 40% of value from abroad.
>>18636492Yeah the price difference between the hesalite/sapphire is a bit jewy which doesn't sit right with me. I tried on a zenith chronomaster but it didn't really grab me like the omega did.
