/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - ENGINEERS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

I impulsively bought these Del Toro loafers because they're having a big sale. Almost 200 off for them
I really wanted some suede loafers and something Blake stitched because I like my loafers to be light and flexible
Should be here next week

I need a boot that's fine in snow/slush/rain (think clearing the driveway in new england at the most extreme) that doesn't look like dogshit if I wear them inside. Do yall have any suggestions?

I was thinking of blundstone thermals but idk if that'll be too hot when it's not winter. Might be asking for it to do too much.

>has anyone ever bought used footwear before?
Yes, but "used" has a big scale. I've bought boots that were used for photoshoots which hardly showrd signs of use. Boots that were used once or twice before the owner either realized he got the wrong size or didn't understand the break-in period.
Once I bought a heavily worn pair of a boot I wanted for cheap, used it a couple times until I was sure about sizing and then resold them for double what I paid for them.
I always disinfect the inside, regardless.

Weird
I wear my desert boots several times a week and have had them for a couple years. I love them because they're super comfy, there's really nothing to them but some leather and a sole, no reinforcement, no toe/heel counters, no lining.
I have completely replaced sneakers with desert boots and then I wear my "real" boots whenever I feel like it

I live in arizona you think I expected it to rain? I've fallen down wearing the boots probably 4 times because on wet concrete they just immediately slip and slide. That said even the slight heel is horrific in crepe, worse than even a normal shankless heel and you certainly can't stand in them for 6 hours without foot pain like you can a wedge sole.

Regular maintenance is brushing with a pig bristle/coarse brush to restore a hazy shine and brushing a horse hair/fine brush to sharpen the shine.

When they don't shine up or they're looking/feeling dry, I apply very little Pure Polish cleaner/conditioner by hand, as opposed to on a cloth, let it set and then brush with the two brushes. The pictures are after cleaner/conditioner and brushing. For reference I've been using the same container of Pure Polish for all my boots and shoes for the last 4 or so years.

Hey guys, my cheap €40 boots are starting to break after 2 years and I've decided to invest in some better quality boots this time. I lurked this general for a bit to get a feel for what to look for and what to avoid but I could use some help.

This is roughly what I'm looking for:
>My budget is around €300-400 (can stretch to €500-600 if you think it's justifiable)
>Leather
>Re-soleable
>Function over form
>Lining(?)

They're mostly for casual use during colder months, I live in Sweden right now where the temperature can drop to -15C (5°F) but even so my feet rarely get cold so not sure if the lining is necessary.
I like to walk to work most days, it's 4-5km both ways (3 miles) so nothing crazy, and it's all on asphalt (or snow) if that matters, other than that they'd be used for the occasional walk in the forest.

Anyone got some pointers? Picrel is kind of what my old boots looked like (I liked the look), they were super comfy and I never got sore feet even after walking for a couple of hours even though they were the cheapest chinamade trash from a discount store. I wouldn't mind something similar but I'm open to most suggestions.
Thanks.

Navy, most shades of darker blue can work. Olive too, but it can look a bit milsurp LARP-y depending on the boot. Darker shades of gray too. If the black boot is a tea-core you've got a bit more flexibility once it starts getting worn in

>but dont really like the style of the laces coming almost down to the tip of the shoe
pretty sure that's a main feature of hiking boots to have lace to toe

Can anyone ID these boots? I thought the chevron pressed into the leather sole would have been enough to identify with AI tools but I was wrong...
>>
>>18639150
If it helps, pic is from a product page of a Swedish clothing brand, so they might well not be American boots.
>>
>>18639150
Looks like Iron Rangers or Blacksmiths
Probably a clone
>>
>>18639150
>>18639152
That sort of bulbous service boot last is endemic to the US, it's very likely not European. My bet is either American or one of those Japanese amerikaji brands.
>chevron pressed into the leather sole
It's probably a vibram v-bar rubber sole or a custom lookalike.
>>
Is it true that leather shoes are ruined if you wear them during rain/snow even once? Or are the people who say that crabs trying to pull me down?
>>
>>18639254
Just wax them beforehand.
>>
>>18639254
lmao no that's the most outdated incorrect advice out there. people have been parroting this nonsense for decades
when it's rainy/snowy I specifically wear my boots because they're tough, warm and have a good sole
leather can get wet just fine. even suede. worst that can happen is it dries out and you just apply some conditioner. just let it dry out and you're fine
>>
>>18639150
Any recs of something similar that's not blacksmiths?
>6" service boot
>black
>no captoe
>bulbous last preferred
>non lug soles
>>
>>18639276
>that's not blacksmiths?
why not
>>
>>18639254
You don't want your leather to be wet for long, so you should let them dry before wearing them again if you've been under the rain or snow.
Water may also affect the color depending on the leather. If you're concerned you can always apply wax beforehand as the other anon said.

Already got beckmans, iron rangers and 875s. Considering trying other brands, that's all.

He needs to dedicate a minimum amount of time to his sponsor of the week, he needs to shill his company, he has to do the youtube algorithm SEO format
He's "hacking" the algorithm
>>
>>18639254
That's what they're made for. However, You want to avoid getting suede leather wet, but that's more because of ruined aesthetics rather than function.
>>
>>18639463

Was considering buying a pair too. Or a pair of cheaney winterfolds. Ultimately decided against it because of no gusset though. How do you like them and how is the fit?
>>
>>18639555
Quite spacious fit. The horween hatch grain feels sturdier and more rugged than the scotch grain on my other pair, making them more apt for countryside walking.
So far I'm happy with them, will take them for a spin in the weekend.
>>
What kind of polish do you guys use on your boots? Do you color match to the leather or use neutral?
>>
>>18639617
Neutral
>>
>>18639513
Hell yeah brother. Big fan of Cheaney
>>
>>18639617
renovateur
coloured paste
clear wax

though I've heard black wax on black leather might give a really good shine, haven't tried it myself though
>>
>>18639617
neutral is always the safer bet
