Because the others are dying.
Post the watches you have and the watches you aspire to own. Post your fucking coffee from last year. Post your snobby opinions even though you can't back them up. Post whatever you want. Anyone can enter. Anyone can leave.
The only requirement for admittance is caring about watches.

A guy that worked 47th Street for 45 years once told me that the only watch to ever buy for a female is a Cartier Tank/Santos. He followed up to say if you can't afford the Cartier, then buy any other copy of the Tank/Santos, preferably a solar version so she doesn't have to worry about a battery.

Is he right?

The more I look at vintage Rolex Oysters the more I want one. There’s something about the plain dials and folded bracelets. The hand wind Oyster Precisions are tempting too but it looks like they’re too close to the Oyster Perpetuals in price to mess with.

I really like citizen watches, I only own one JDM model but I've frequently purchased them as gifts before, and when I hold it in my hand after buying them, I'm always really impressed with how good it looks and feels. I just don't really have a need for more than eight watches at most, and I'm already there. They remind me right now of what Seiko was like 5 or 6 years ago, in terms of specs for price and their much improved dial game. Like >>18648608 said, their best models are JDM.

The cases on them can vary greater depending on the model, I have a King Quartz that is about 5mm thick and my brother had a King Quartz that is about 9mm thick.

I was thinking about rounding out the trip of high end/semi luxury vintage Seiko quartz with a king quartz, grand quartz and lord quartz.

They were all obscenely expensive when they were first released, part of this is due to Japans strong currency at the time, but not adjusting for inflation, they were about $6k aud, once you put the inflation figures in, it comes out to about $30k aud

>>
>>18648943
No. Get yourself a seiko or a weekdater or a citizen or a rolex. As long as it's an established brand. Don't spend less than $500 on a watch and don't buy anything from dirty, stinking china.
That's what we all think around here. That's the consensus. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid and wrong and poor.

There isn't, brands got their pricing down to a science and are very aware of their place on the market relative to other brands.
As a general rule, the more you pay the better the product, though you may not care about what th next increment gives you.
A few exceptions are the some of the Richemont brands like JLC and BP that are terrible value in their price segment, and the anomalies like the more exclusive Rolex models, the nautilus and RO etc. that you can actually resell for a profit and that exist in their own universe of luxury goods.
GS is maybe still priced somewhat competitively though the gap is closing, they basically only have one model and I personally find them quite unappealing but if you like them that's what I would suggest.
>>
>>18648914
Nice watch. Way too big (for 90% of wrists really).
The problem with square/rectangular watches worn one or two sizes too big is they look like Apple watches.
>>
>>18648943
You could get a used mechanical, quartz or even spring drive GS for 3k.New Longines is pretty good and around that price.

thank you. This one is 43mm lug to lug, which I feel most guys can pull off. The problem with the newer reversos is they’re too big for most wrists at 47-49.5mm. They end up looking way too bulky especially since they’re dressy instead of sport watches.
>>18649151
They can be, but be careful. Make sure the seller is legit, if you can get an extract from the brand’s archives or a service history of the watch it’s a good start. Try to find someone who can do vintage repairs if you plan on keeping it long term. Also watch out for overly polished examples or anything that looks off (suspicious replacement parts, restored dial)

I prefer the precision. I always prefer manual wind over automatic. I’m glad the consensus disagrees because that means more manual winds for me. I'm actually starting to dislike Seiko and their offbrands too.
I don't know exactly why, but I think the fact that they make so many mall shitters might have something to do with it.
Too many shitty watches bear the name "Seiko", and it's offputting.
These shitters are also not as cheap as they should be.
Casio for example is sort of a proud shitter brand, they have their own niche, and it works. Most of them are actually cheap as well. This is fine.
Seiko is a shitter for people who don't want a shitter, and that's where the cringe begins.
Also I associate Seiko with weebs. There is something that doesn't feel quite right about a grown man wearing a Seiko.

Quartz watches can be like this, most mechanical watches aren’t, crystals can be a pain if they used something special, like King Seikos hardlex with retaining rings, you can’t use something generic and the average watchmaker can’t just make one. Watch makers can machine parts if they aren’t available.

the one I have is the reference 3902420, which was for the 85th anniversary of the reverso (technically its 42.9mm or some shit but who cares). It wears similar to the “grande taille” case size which was 42mm lug to lug. desu 40 is even nicer and hopefully if Jerome Lambert buys out JLC then we’ll get nicer proportions going forward.

But 6 weeks? It was a $2 watch, but I really expected more. I did submerge it in the tub. I knew what happened was possible, even probable. I banged it against the wall a few times throughout the day but it's surprisingly scratch resistant. It's toast though. The movement is now a full 35 minutes behind, though I've banged the watch on its side hard a few times and accumulated one big droplet of water on the underside of the crystal by the 3. I may put it in the microwave to dry it out.
Actually I'll probably salvage the strap even though it's shitty. Maybe I'll take it apart and draw on the dial. Or spraypaint the whole thing. These cheapo watches are going to fall one by one anyway.

If you want to get value for your money and you're that cheap, just buy a Casio. People have pressure tested the F91W up to like 200m without it getting water inside, so even though it's only rated for 50m it's much more, in effect. I don't know why people bother with these dirt cheap Chinese options when this has been pretty much solved by Japan, in terms of quality per dollar.

So this just cracked open with the greatest of ease. Almost got it with my fingernail. It's concerning that the droplets are brownish. Either some rust that forms within hours, or something else inside there has bled out and stained it. Maybe my jeweler can fix this. But I don't want to invest much.

Well, the crown is now off and it's open. Still ticking away at some awful, slow rate. No idea how to have removed that crown stick without breaking it off. You probably can't in a watch so cheap. So much for my idea of modding it with a big onion crown. There will be other watches.

It's all connected in that it's racist. Whether it's just fun-loving "penny pincher" jokes delivered harmlessly like back in the day here, or "kill 'em all" stuff.
I wouldn't have cared 5 or 10 years ago but now it all just makes me uneasy for them. Be mad at Israel if you want, but there are plenty of normal Americans who don't deserve it. My aunt was married to a Jewish guy until he got cancer and died. He never fit any of the stereotypes at all. So it feels personal when you guys spread any of that no matter how harmless you think it is. It's become more normalized recently and that should concern anyone who's not a nazi or a psychopath.

I'm trying to make this F91W work on my 7.5" wrist because I really like the neutral color design it has, but the larger Casio digital models all leaned into army/olive green, which I don't prefer. I bought some lug adapters to put it on a 20mm NATO and this is the result. Still too small? I'm hoping the wider, non-tapered strap will give it enough visual mass for me.

I mean, I would love to be proven wrong. Do you have any recommendations for digital display square Casio watches that have the presence of a nice, neutral green that isn't too much on the yellow or blue side? Preferably with a black case and not steel or gold.

I suppose if I were an Arab or something, I would also shave off a lot of body hair to present a cleaner, more sanitary appearance.

Actual Scandinavians have no problem growing heavy beards, but don’t have thick body hair. Supposedly it’s because there’s less sunlight so a thick covering of fur would prevent vitamin D uptake.

I'm a tourist from /thinspo/. The Casio was supposed to liberate me from Apple Watch, whose feedback is both a blessing and a curse. Steps, calories etc as anorexia gamification, and Low HR notifications as safety measure.

I decided on the DBC-32 as my toe-dip into watchfaggotry because it was the largest of the Casios I've been considering. If that model works for me, all the other options will as well. Plan to start collecting them (if ditching my Apple Watch watch proves feasible)

That’s a contradiction in terms. It’s like calling yourself a beta soýboy alpha.

Nice. Plain and simple in black. Enjoy wearing it.

How do I speedrun watch collecting? Like where do I start and what steps do I take? Where must I end up and which steps can I skip on the way there?
I have roughly 10k saved for this. So do I go Casio f91w -> Hamilton Khaki -> Grand Seiko -> Tudor/Rolex or do I just get the end game right away? Will I seem like a poser in watch meetups / conversations if I skipped the "journey". I want to have the journey, but to make it ass fast and linear as possible.
>>
>>18650802
do you even wear watches now?
buy a seiko diver off ebay for ~$250. wear it for a year. if youre still into watches buy a no date sub.
>>
>>18650802
It's not really possible to do it because everybody has different tastes. You have to try on and buy and wear a lot of different stuff to figure out what you like to wear and what you need out of a watch. Like you could get a submariner and there's nothing wrong with that, you might really enjoy it, but how do you know you wouldn't like a 34mm OP even better? You don't until you give wearing a watch that small an honest try. But if you just listen to what everyone else is good to buy you won't find that out.

My advice is: Don't share your sped-up "journey" on this board. At first some may be supportive, but eventually almost everyone will be resentful and rude no matter which watches you choose and how nice you are to everyone.
People just don't like money being thrown around. But you're talking Hamilton, Grand Seiko, and Rolex. So it might be different for you. But probably not.
Do it and find out. I don't believe anyone is for real until I see the watches on the wrists.
Buy what YOU want.
>>
>>18650857
lol, exactly the attitude I'd expect for some dickless troll who doesn't buy watches.
>>
>>18650879
Way better. Metal bracelets are lame.
>>
thinking of getting one of the seiko enamel, SPB403 looks cute
>>
You think about that then. Maybe don't post until you have a picture of it or you buy it. Just wasting space now.

No, that didn't happen because you posted a watch journey, that happened because you wildly overshared about your failure as a husband and human being and started blogging about your whoring for attention and posting whores you paid to put your watches on their body.

You have me confused with someone else, you fucking nutcase. You seem to think you can identify every anonymous poster on this board and that they're all someone you at one time paid way too much attention to.
I haven't posted anyone but me wearing my watches.
You've 'made an ass out of you and me' by assuming.
Be more careful next time.

And like >>18650919 guy said, try and post watches.
>>
>>18650925

You don't have any fucking watches, let alone ten-THOUSAND dollar ones. You just think you would be that owner if you did buy watches, which you don't.
Who fills drawers with worthless Chinese junk? Nobody on this board.

seiko have an acknowledged problem, ie by seiko management themselves, that they don't really know what seiko is and how to market it because like most japanese companies its run by committee. irrc their current ceo is their ex-financial boss and his job was to sort out their product ranges and especially what grand seiko and credor are supposed to be.
