/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - TRICKERS STOW EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

Really atrocious taste. This is what "boots as a fashion accessory" looks like when you're gay, have money and are extremely generic to a fault. The only interesting thing about this collection is the fact that there are 4 (four) pairs of ottowa boots and ZERO (Zed) cap toes.

>Find US speedlace boots on marketplace for 20$ settle for those.

>1 year later, find paramemes on marketplace for 10$, exactly my size.

>Find them to be high-quality but completely underwhelming.. welt and sole feel chunky, shaft never conforms as well as patterns with dedicated backstays, spoiled by the US boots' padded collar, hook style laces just way more of a hassle than speed laces.

If it was up to me I'd have all my favorite shoes/boots in a different color for each day of the week
>>
>>18654887
rookie mistake, buying the exact same article of clothing in a different color inevitably leads into a preference for one and the other becomes unused
>>
>>18654889
I have two pairs of Whites MPs in different leathers and I basically only ever wear one of them
I'm probably gonna sell the other pair but they have manufacturer's defects which didn't bother me but will probably affect how much someone else would be willing to buy them for
>>
>>18654823
It depends on which maker you get. Steinadler is shit, Steinkogler is noticeably better.
However, they suffer from two fatal flaws:
>the shaft is oversized for pants tucking so you'll never get a snug fit around your shins if you're wearing them civilian style or with blousers and/or you have skinny legs
>the heel counter is nonexistent, too straight/not shaped for gripping the heel, causes unnecessary risk of slippage
Everything else (including lack of padding or lining, chunky sole and welt etc.) is a positive imo.
>>
>>18654889
that's simply not true because they're not the exact same
there's going to be variations in the sole and leather plus the different colors work for different outfits. he should have diversified a bit but ten grant stone pairs wouldn't be strange

Yeah I gotta trim my collection back. Im at about 20 boots, but more than a quarter are engineer boots and of those, 5 are black
>Black cxl horsehide Mr Lou
>Black cxl horsehide Boss Round Toe
>Attractions 269
>Black work leather Wesco Morrison
>Black cxl John lofgren Wabash boots

Of those only the Morrisons are struck through. The black Lous get the most wear. The Lofgrens were a steal so I kinda wanna keep them as beaters, and the Attractions are the most attractive last. So itll probably be the Boss boots I flip.

wholecut means single seam means one continuous piece of leather which is very good
cheap usually means utilizing most of the hide
waxed flesh's blemishes do not appear as much as it would on a smooth leather
so if you're going cheap (meermin) best to go with waxed flesh because it less risk than a smooth leather

Because when you're an "influencer" you either get given free shit to review that you then sell, or you're getting paid by the company for your reviews. Either he's getting free shit he's reselling or he's getting paid directly
And his wife works, she's also an "influencer" in the women's space of things. So I'm sure the extra cash is plenty to get new boots all the time
>>
>>18655600
Yes, but before he got enough traction to get free shit, how did he? And if the money is that good, why kill the channel?

Two incomes is a pretty good gig. My wife also works and together we make plenty to have enough left over. I buy a new pair of footwear or clothing all the time. In the past couple months I've gotten 3 new pairs of shoes and a leather jacket

Anyway, apparently his students tried following him and adding him on socials which is a huge no-no for teachers. There's strict rules about how students and teachers are allowed to interact outside of work and having your students following all your accounts is not good. To be better safe than sorry he took everything down

I don't really baby the upper leather on my roughout boots, but the welt is still naked leather. Does it make sense to quickly apply colorless polish every few days to the sides of the sole? When I come back from outside I get pure white salt residue inside and on the sides of the welt.

No, just an anon who likes boots too much. Im thinking Ill probably sell off the Boss round toes (I have enough black teacore and prefer the MP toe to the boss toe), my olive petrolio horsehide Mr Lous (not super keen on the green they patina into and concerned about rebuildability with a meme leather), and a pair of Nicks Roberts in brown cxl (not a fan of the classic heel stack).

Lately all Ive been wearing are my black CXL horsehide Lous and my black Whites Farmer/Ranchers, so I dont need any of the rest realistically, but I also know Ill get the urge to cop some of my collection back if I sell them off.

Why does every single brand have to have its own arbitrary interpretation of whatever the local sizing system is? "Size charts" are completely meaningless and always do more harm than good without a column for real measured foot length.
>I'm a 9EE on the Goyson last
>Noooo this brand runs large you need a 7¾, it's the Shartman last!!
>I'm a 43 Italian but this brand runs small do I take an Alsatian 45 or a Portuguese 46?! Help!
You are all fucking deranged.
Kill all cobblers that don't give real size info.
>>
>>18656235
the truth is nobody agrees on shoe sizing and everyone likes their shoes to fit diferent so you basically just go on vibes
wasn't a problem in the past because you bought shoes in person

so yes it is unhinged
>>
>>18656235
You're a fucking retard aren't you?
There is no standard shoe size. Different countries do it their own way. But it's actually very standardized in that regard. You just need to know your size in US/UK/EU and JP and you pretty much know them all
>>
>>18656235
because establishing one single standard across the various lasts will be a nightmare. how are you supposed to measure a viberg 2030 to a white's 4811
>>
>>18656249
yep, the buying shoes online thing is a fairly recent phenomenon. before you just bought in person and tried them on first. size was irrelevant, you bought what fit
>>
>>18656250
>You just need to know your size in US/UK/EU and JP and you pretty much know them all
Demonstrably false.
I'm a 44 in one model of Italian boots and a 45 in another model from the same brand, and a 43 in boots from the dudes directly next door that use the same workshop. These niggers can't even be consistent within their own lines. This would not be a problem if they just added a 'recommended foot length' column.
>>18656254
It has nothing to do with establishing a single standard across lasts. Just say what real foot length corresponds to what size in the given shoe (or omit the traditional sizing entirely and only work with Mondopoint on a per-shoe basis). It's that simple.
>>

these any good?
>>
>>18656273
Who gives a shit? Shoe lasts are all different so sizing is different. It's impossible to standardize shoe sizing without every single thing being made on the same last
>>
>>18656277
That's exactly what I'm saying you braindead faggot. Because sizing is different, brands NEED to provide the recommended foot length in their charts. "UK US EU" is completely useless if their 10 fits like an 11 and the one pair of EU45s you have fit like a 12. I'm not asking for a standardized sizing system, I'm asking for recommended foot lengths to be given on a per-brand, per-last or per-shoe basis, which is the opposite of standardization.

Just copped these Ariats for work. I've got several pairs of real traditionally-made Western boots but they're lethal on snow and ice, and I work with manual machine tools so anything with laces sucks since they'll get full of razor-sharp metal chips.
