>laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis
I recently got LASIK so I don't have to wear glasses that will make me look 1. Programmer 2. A Nerd 3. Disabled.

Also I do not have to spend money on lens, frames, prescription, and examination every year. I wanted to share for anyone interested in the procedure and have some questions.
>>
How long did recovery take? I also hear it generally restores vision a lot but not necessarily 100%, more like enough to not really need glasses. I would ask "so what do you tell the DMV now that you no longer need them, you just take the little letters eye test right there and they strike it from your license?" but if you just got it you wouldn't know

I got the procedure 23 hours ago and my vision is really good now. Keep in mind, I still have a protective lens that make my vision blurry because my eyes get irritated easily, but compared to 2 days ago, I can see much further away. I'm getting that len remove tommorow so my vision is going to be even better. I can drive myself after day 1 100%. That being said I'm still wearing sunglasses indoors to make sure it heals fully the first week. Just take your prescription meds they give you and you're good.

About the DMV question, I never had glasses, but I got multiple eye exams to make sure they can get my prescription prior to the surgery. The eye doctors questioned how the hell I was able to drive and why my state didn't require a renewal yet. I said my license expires every 8 years rather than 4.
>>
I just want to know if you looked into PRK first. I’m torn between the two.
>>
>>18659944
I got PRK on mine. Shit is totally worth it, and you can wear sunglasses now without them being wildly expensive.
>>
>>18660102
PRK is better if you're going to go to high altitudes and get banged around. Military paid for mine. It's the only laser eye surgery they will accept.
>>
>>18660102
I just happen to qualify for Lasik and was pretty adamant about getting it. From my understanding, PRK are for people with thin cornea or need less correction.
>>
contacts work well enough if you just want vapid pussy
you dont need new prescriptions every year
you might still need glasses after lasik
sorry, not taking the chance
>>
>>18659944
I would get PRK over LASIK personally
I tried to in the army because it would have been free and did the consultation and everything but was rejected for being "high risk of complications" due to my cornea's shape or something, I didn't fully understand.
Bummer but whatever
>>
>>18660124
>high risk of complications
They told me the exact same thing, but I got a second opinion and got LASIK right away

About a day for me. Could see very well the day of actually but there is a fair bit of discomfort. I could drive the next day no problem.

Had "halos" around light sources at night for a few months after but that eventually went away.

I regret not getting it sooner.
>>
>>18660130
you can sleep with them for a night or three without issues
>>
>>18660134
Or you can just get the surgery and not be a vulnerable everytime you lose your vision

I have retro frames like this. I like the idea of glasses sometimes, and a lot of women have complemented me on them in the past.
>>
>>18660152
because you do not need a somewhat risky operation to not look like any of the three things OP listed
>>
>>18659944
If you don't look good with glasses (when you have a fitting frame for the face and hair), then you probably don't look good at all.

They're full of shit. The whole point of PRK is that it works on patients that are not good fits for LASIK.

Isn't SMILE like the superior procedure nowadays?
It's not invasive pike PRK nor does it leave a flap like LASIK.
>>
>>18659944
I heard they make your eyes go bad 10 years down the road or cause other problems, something about night vision or driving at night? Is this true LASIK bro? Also how bad were your eyes? I'm a -6.
>>
>>18660130
you should be using daily disposable ones anyway. IDK it's never been a problem for me, you fuck them, if they stay the night they see you looking daddy in your glasses reading the paper the next morning. It's never not gotten me more pussy.
>>
>>18660878
>you're full of shit
Shut the fuck you stupid retarded faggot. Are you my doctor? Did you interpret my eye scans? Fucking dumbass
And this is a doctor for military patients who do NOT get paid per procedure like regular doctors. They have no incentive to make you get an unnecessary procedure
God, I swear the people on this board are some the biggest retards on the planet
>>
>>18659944
You have to be awake for the procedure right? No thanks, I don't like the idea of someone fiddling with my eyes while I'm under, much less while I'm awake.
>>
>>18661063
I didn't say you were full of shit, fucking ASVAB waiver.
>And this is a doctor for military patients who do NOT get paid per procedure
Which is why they told you that you can't get it.
>>
>>18659944
$3,800+ for the procedure??
I got it done last year and paid $0 thanks to my work insurance.
>>

I got LASIK a few years ago. One of the best things I ever did, DESU.

pussy, 10 minutes of discomfort is worth the life changing result
>>

I was offered valium beforehand, which I took. Whole procedure is done by two machines in maybe 5 minutes? No pain during but discomfort afterwards for better part of a day.
>>
>>18659944
Based. Glasses are retarded, incelcore. I wear contacts to cope not looking like a chud.
>>
I don't see the point. Both my mother and an uncle of mine had it done. They were back to contacts/glasses within 5 years.

They were in their early 30s. I was like 12 years old. LASIK has been around since the 80s, my man. Both were back to contacts and glasses in short order. Even were that not the case, you have to wonder what the point of this surgery is if it can't correct poor vision in the first place.
>>
>>18663169
It makes you not glasses dependants
>>
I'm contemplating it. I was skeptical but my dad got LASIK (or that other one they do, idk specifically) like 15 years ago and never had a single issue.
>>
>>18663184

>literally cutting a massive flap into your eye that will never heal
>run the risk of your eyeball flapping open if you take a hit or get in an accident for the rest of your life
Uh yeah, fuck everything about LASIK. I might PRK or SMILE at some point.
>>
>>18663729
It literally does heal. Stop posting stupid misinformation.
>>
>>18663731
It's pretty common knowledge that LASIK isn't recommended if you are involved in contact sports or other high intensity things due to the risk of the flap being dislodged anon. The air force doesn't allow it either.

If it truly healed, why would this be the case? If you voluntarily pick LASIK at this point you are massively retarded, enjoy walking around with eyeballs that could pop back open I guess.
>>
>>18660878
with LASIK the eye flap can come off if you rub it too harshly, hence why they don't do it for people doing intense activities/sports
PRK removes the flap completly so it can grow back, it takes longer to heal and you have to wear some specific lenses with limited vision, which makes the procedure impractical for many people and convince them to get the LASIK instead
SMILE is better indeed because it is a tiny section that will leave only a tiny weak point of tearing
but PRK is masterrace if you don't care about the few days of recovery stuck at home, you get a new eye surface with no weak point at all

Yeah it's fucking scary. It also often causes issues like dry eyes, worse night vision, or refraction issues, and they're sometimes permanent.
I wouldn't fuck with my eyes with any procedure desu
>>18663731
It does reattach somewhat but its strength is a lot less than that of an uncut cornea and while it's rare, a strong impact or physical injury may absolutely dislodge it.
>>
>>18663925
You know what else is permanent, poking your eyes every day just to look normal
>>
>>18663965
It's quite the opposite. Putting on contacts is very quick and easy, and you can choose to wear contacts or glasses as you please, and it won't damage your vision.
Good luck asking for a refund when you start seeing mystery halos and rainbows after having your eyes circumcised.

Yeah get LASIK so instead of being vulnerable to your glasses being stolen, a moderately strong slap will fuck up the flap and make you permanently blind.

I just wear biweekly contacts
they're like $50 per box or whatever, but each lens lasts much longer than 2 weeks so it's like $100-200 a year
and they literally feel like nothing in my eyes unless I'm actively trying to notice if they're in or not. I use acuvue oasys, which are by far the most comfortable I've found
it just doesn't seem worth spending thousands of dollars to have my eyes cut up by lasers
>>
>>18666101
Same. I wear acuvue oasys lenses too, they last me around a month comfortably. I have my eyes checked regularly.

I don't really have a problem with glasses myself, just not my style and i do find the frames blocking some of the vision plus uncorrected fields of view to be annoying, but i do recognize they're overall healthiest with no side effects at all and can be fashionable. Getting a risky surgery for an issue that has so many safer, cheap and convenient alternatives is just peak brainlet however.

If you're talking about this study, it says the satisfaction rate is 96% and the suicide rate is extremely rare. The four cases were folks with existing mental illnesses. Most males though.

The conclusion was that you can't blame Lasik was a single cause of suicide. In fact, the results were the complete opposite post operation
