/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - CRAZY COW EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

I’m getting a bonus and want to buy a nice pair of boots. I’ve lurked the threads and want to buy something from someone who gives some options but is quality. Frank is coming to my area so I’m going to let him measure me. Is Frank legit? I am wary of White’s. Would also consider alternative brands. Budget is 1K. Need something rugged that will last my lifetime with minimal care but still looks nice enough to wear with slacks and pass for business casual.
>>
>>18662442
>rugged
>minimal care
>business casual
Unless you're using 'business casual' incorrectly, you're asking for too much from one pair of boots. Either get something rugged and indestructible or get something more formal.
>>
>>18662442
like you were told, you basically cant have your cake and eat it.
>>
should i buy these
>>
>>18662455
I’m not. Business casual down in what I do means just slacks and a button up tucked in. I’m in chemical plants and wetlands and forests as often as I’m giving a presentation on this or that. I think what I want is something made of premium leather more than anything else. Super thick but dyed all nice.
>>18662460
Perhaps, but the cowboy boots I wear now are nicer than most other peoples’ shoes/boots. I’m just tired of cowboy boots because my arches are really high and it’s a drag yanking them on as I get older and softer around the middle.
>>
>>18662465
Viberg 2040, commando sole. Have fun waiting for it to appear again.
>>
>>18662467
Best pair of boots I own. Jewberg needs to do something about this bullshit.
>>
Good brands to check out for cowboy boots?
>>
Just grabbed these Fryes- should arrive in a few days. Despite the OP, I have a soft spot for side zips and these have a really nice profile. Plus they're welted so my cobbler can put a v-bar or mini lug on them when they wear through.

Also I thought my rebuilt Wesco Morrisons would be coming this month. Found out I have to wait till May.
>>
>>18662476
Used to be RM Williams. Not anymore, though. Too many source their leather and labor from Mexico now. Leddy’s if money isn’t an object and you can go to Texas for a custom pair. Otherwise, lucchese is the “big” brand that still kinda holds up.
t. >>18662442
>>
>>18662476
Dan Post and Tony Lama are both aight. For a bit more Olathe, Fengolio, and Hondo are excellent. Then any of the Anderson Bean brands (AB, horsepower top hand, Rios of Mercedes) are great but more expensive.

And fyi you cant buy most cowboy boots from the brands website. Theyre big on relationships with individual stocklists so like, if you want some Olathes, you gotta find western shops that stock them, hope they sell online, and then hope they have your size in stock
>>
>>18662480
>Too many source their leather and labor from Mexico now.
Cowboy boots are a Mexican thing though. They come from vaquero boots. Mexico has a huge cowboy boot heritage and they're as much a Mexican thing as they are a Texan thing
As long as cowboy boots are being made in Mexico because of tradition and heritage and not a labor cutting thing, there's no reason Mexican boots would be any less authentic than Texan made ones
>>
Nobody said Whites semidress yet? Shame on you, guys.
>>
>>18662483
I'm located in DFW so I don't think I'll have any problem at all finding a stockist. I just don't know the brands to look into
I have heard good things about Chisos, Rios of Mercedes and of course Lucchese.
That Rose Anshill faggot hates Lucchese so I'm sure they're actually great
>>
>>18662494
Oh so you're just a faggot? Got it
>>
>>18662494
>cowboy boots originated in mexico
>mexicans wear the boots they created
>anon on /fa/ is so threatened by this concent and the idea that not everything came from white people he starts crying and pissing himself

>>
>>18662484
This is absolutely wrong. Mexican mystery meat leather has poisoned the cowboy boot market, it’s even infiltrated South Dakota and if it’s here then it’s everywhere. Any name brand cowboy boot is suspect, the best thing to do is buy local or from smaller shops that you can travel to and ask where their leather is from.

Jesus Christ, reddit just posts here with “muh culture” without acknowledging the reality of the situation. Mexican mystery leather is worse than Indian mystery leather. At least Indian mystery leather is probably water buffalo.

>Paraboot sources the majority of its high-quality leather (around 77%) from renowned tanneries in France, with the remainder coming from top-tier suppliers across Europe. They specifically utilize full-grain cattle and deer hides sourced from Western Europe. A key supplier is the Haas Degermann tannery in Alsace, which has supplied their signature Suportlo leather for over 70 years. They also use shell cordovan sourced from the United States

Moc toe, but it looks more mediterranean style because of how sleek/sloped it is, compare for example Carmina 80372 to Carmina 80746. Moc toe in american shoes would be more square I feel

The patina thunderdome is hilarious because people go out and buy brand new boots and completely ruin them just to show off to strangers on the internet. They'll completely over condition them to darken the leather, wear them for months in a row and destroy the uppers, expose them to all sorts of shit just to make them look beat up, and the hilarious thing is these big boot brands all sponsor it because they know it means they'll 1) buy a brand new boots from them at the start and 2) buy new boots at the end to replace the pair they ruined

the chinese shell these guys use is really suspect
they both get natural shell from somewhere and finish it themselves
the yield on the giant shell pieces they receive seems too good to be true, which means it's either not tanned as densely as horween and/or they leave a lot of non-shell horsebutt around
the luster is all topcoat finish and that doesn't even hold
meermin shell all over again, hard pass

There's no functional difference between owning 2 pairs of boots vs 20 pairs of boots. One is practical and the other is "collecting" (read: hoarding) to fill a void with consumerism. Plenty of people own one funko pop and just like how it looks on the shelf. It's gay but so is most decoration. Boot collectors are funkofags.

I'm not gonna shit on people collecting boots, watches, cars or even fucking funko pops. But collecting is a thing in itself where usage, hypothetical or real, is no longer a concern. This is the last time I'm going to respond, because I don't want to shit up the thread with bickering. The fact that you can wear the boots is irrelevant. That you can use something doesn't justify hoarding others of the same thing. You can "use" a funkopop for its intended "use", which is to be looked at occasionally. Collecting them is still retarded.
You're trapped in some kind of autistic loop of thinking that because a boot has a practical use, it's normal or desirable to have a whole room in your house dedicated to your 100 pairs of boots. It's not. That's why everyone but you thinks it's faggy and cringe. Get a grip.

I have very high arches and as a result a very high instep. My instep on my left foot is higher than my right, so footwear fits snugger on that foot
My right foot is wider than my left, so sizing for my left foot means the right is too tight, and sizing for my right means the left is too roomy. Anything narrow is immediately out of the question
I really want to get some bespoke footwear made and finally, the first time time ever, just have everything fit right

I really want a C350 cutter but the USA is retarded, for importing boots to my country customs will charge me around 90-100% of the value in taxes alone, making it effectively twice as expensive.

My only option is buying from other than the US and I found these that are in my size, it's the Foreman's last and it has the Christi sole, it's also 450 USD shipping included.

Also, no one seems to sell them used in large sizes, I need at least a 14.

So, need or sneed?

They keep making them so obviously they’re selling. The reason for the high prices among all makers is simply Gen X and millennials never had children and therefore have too much disposable income. People without children needs to be taxed more.

Enshittification of the mid-tier brands pushes the ones that stayed quality into the premium bracket. High price is a symptom.

Anyone got any suggestions for something like the Thursday captains but actually good? Been wearing pairs of these for a few years but getting tired of the low quality and the annoying un-gusseted tongue. I recently bought Red Wing #2408 for construction work, and just 1 day on the site and some of it are already scuffed. All I need is horsehair brush and just buff over the scuffed parts?
>>
>>18665715
scuffs are literally nothing, any horsehair brush is good
if you work construction and are worried about scuffs i have bad news for you
>>
>>18665724
Just a precaution that this is my first time buying leather shoes for work. All I ever owned were Timberland The Icon in Wheat and Black color for everyday uses, while using a cheapo tradie boots for all my construction work. I decided to pull the trigger on this RW since all my coworkers suggested getting RW either the Supersole 2 or Dynaforce, so I have 0 expectation on what is the supposed wear and tear for these leather boots during work.
So just use horsehair brush and just brush all the dirts and scuff away?

This isn't a shitpost (you might understand why I am saying this in a minute).

Some Anon here was nice enough to suggest Wolverines to me (he also suggested Thorogood and Danner over them first, so don't crucify him), I liked Wolverine's look the most, and the price point was the most acceptable of the three.

Recently I decided to ditch the one pair of dress shoes I had, I bought them to wear for a wedding (to match the other groom's men), and I hated them more than life itself due to how uncomfortable they were. Now I'm looking for dress boots. Preferably something not too dressy that would look odd if I wasn't wearing a suit, but still dressy enough I can get into a restaurant with a dress code.

I wear a size 14, extra wide. I also wear orthotics due to my feet being completely flat. Before you make a recommendation, try to remember you are talking to a Bonafede Sasquatch. A taller heel is better than a shorter one to help out my manlet ass. My girl is 5'4" and she still likes it when I wear boots specifically because it makes me taller (I am 7" taller than her already, figure that shit out).
>>
>>18664973
>I need at least a 14
You're beyond the range of normal sizing. I'm a 13UK (14US). Eventually I had to accept the fact that larger feet = premium price. That meant paying import prices for Grant Stone.
>>
>>18665960
You don't want to outgrow people sizes and get into mutant ones. 13us is the max, 12 even better.
>>
>>18665971
I know. Even with 13US EE feet, life would be so easy when it comes to footwear. Options for 14US EEE are severely limited. My head is too big for most hats, too, so no top hats at Ascot.
>>18665905
>My girl is 5'4" and she still likes it when I wear boots specifically because it makes me taller
Women want you to be taller than other men. Your height relative to theirs is irrelevant.

Does this mean Indonesian handmade shoes that's being touted as the top of the cream/famous is bad? I just got into boots and was surprised to see the Indonesian's handmade shoes are the most recommended one, I always thought it's the USA or UK.
Also, anyone knows handmade/exotic boots on the land down under that uses Kangaroo leather? I need to make one for work boot in construction and for casual wear.

About how much does a good pair of engineers cost these days?
>>
>>18666342
They used be in this sweet spot where you had decent quality construction and materials for a reasonable price. Since then they've all raised prices, tariffs make it even more, and now that there's decent money in it more makers have popped up that are much shittier and trying to ride the wave to scam people.
>>
>>18666354

Gonna ask here since it seems like this is the best place: I’m hunting for a leather jacket, as heavy duty as possible. Can anyone spoon feed me brands/stores/etc to help me find one?
>>
>>18666400
What style do you want and what's your budget? Good leather jackets are expensive too unless you're going used and have a specific idea of what you want.
>>
>>18666404
Heavy duty, brown, would prefer buttons but a zipper is fine too. Budget is 2.5K total, would prefer to spend less naturally. I’m more concerned with quality construction/materials than “style.” I tend to dress plain-preppy so not anything flamboyant.
>>
>>18666400
Schott is generally considered the best price to quality ratio out there. You can do better than Schott by paying more, but you can do a lot worse by paying less. Schott is a nice middle (although still expensive thanks to Bidenflation)
>>
>>18666407
You could look into cossack jackets. Himel Bros Canuck and Heron A-1, Shangri-La Cossack, and Mister Freedom Campus jackets are decent, but it's not a common style compared to the pilot and motorcycle inspired ones.
