anons, help a brother out I bought a pair of iron rangers a few months ago. Did a month of breaking in after which they became comfortable. However, after this period the right boot suddenly started pressing into my big toe from the top, when I step and the shoe bends the leather creases down onto the toe. I've sort of annotated it in the pic. Has this happened to anyone else, and how to fix it? I've taken it to two cobblers, one said stretching might help (it didn't) and the other one, who was older and more esteemed, said he'd never seen anything like it before and didn't know what to do with it pls halp
>>18668808you're referring to the edge of the toe cap biting into the top of your foot?
>>18668670Is that guy walking on the heel counters or what?
>>18668823That's pretty normal heel wear. Every single pair of boots I own the heels are scuffed as hell. It's just part of normal wear. You hit your heels on stuff. I have a bad habit of hitting mine on chairs
>>18668808That happens to me with my Rancourts. It's just how the leather flexes and bends when you move your foot. Mine bends down and touches the top of my footI don't think there's anything you can do except wear thicker socks or something
>>18668808did you really need to condition these so soon?
>>18668818No it's not the actual toe cap, it's the area of leather where you can see the crease wrinkles in the pic >>18668831Damn, it's literally unwearable for me, it's fucking agonising, even with socks>>18668842I haven't conditioned them
>>18668847Just so I'm clear. The leather bends when it flexes, which is totally normal, but you're saying it bends down in a way that it touches the top of your toe and rubs it in a painful way? All I can think is the boots are not the correct fit
>>18668847so NOT the toe cap causing the problem just the leather flexing down into your feet? boots too big. with too much spare volume allowing the leather to flex into a shape that digs into your foot
>>18668854Yes, it bends down somehow in such a way that crushes the toe>>18668855Yes it's just the leather. I don't think it's a sizing issue or them being too big because I sized down to the extent that they were tight initially before breaking in, then they were perfectly comfortable, and it's only an issue with the right boot, the left one is completely fine I'm thinking maybe it's some kind of internal structural defect or a quirk of the leather
Daily Reminder: fuck Nigs Boots they're fucking dogshitBuy Frank's
>>18668859that section is just leather outer and a fabric liner that you can touch if you reach inside your boot its not a structural issue
>>18668889If it ain't Whites it ain't right
>>18668894Franks still does handsewn welts, mckay stitch which nigs dropped years ago, and are the absolute tankiest fucking boots I ownWhites Perry Selects are God Tier at the price point though, I just don't have any of their loggers to compareMy Nigs fit like a full width tighter than my Franks at the same size and last btw
>>18668808Yes, it happened to me with my first pair. My solution was getting a second pair half a size down. You can try shoe trees but at this point thete's not much you can do. I even tried those caps they use to prevent creasing on sneakers but it didn't work. The problem with Iron Rangers is that the leather becomes very flexible, but that area is right next to a very rigid actual toe cap so it tends to crease a lot. Shoe trees might mitigate that, but at this point I don't know if they'd help, since the creases are already set in.
>>18668897What model are in your pic? They look good but probably overkill for anything I would need them for
>>18668901They're an 8" made to order (MTO) but the closest stock config Frank's offers I think would be the Front RangeTheir work leather is freaky thicc, like 4.0 mm but super supportive and also wildly overkill for me White's Perry Select for comparison (insanely comfy), though I really need to take an updated photo cause they've got a bit more character these days.
Do you like paraboot?
>>18668906New photo, didn't realize the boots were backwards compared to the first shot but whateverTobacco Stampede is a killer leather
>>18668934
>>18668728both steel and composite meet safety requirements.steel is slimmer and can exceed the required rating in strength, but there's no way to measure that. if you work in the cold at all, steel will freeze your toes off.composite is lighter and less thermally conductive, but it is bulkier and probably not as strong.if dropping things on your feet is a serious concern you should also consider boots with metatarsal guards.
>>18668901Pro tip: ask if the wilshire plus whatever it is you want is cheaper. No reason not to get MTO from Frank, he’s the best right now for this sort of thing.
>>18668981Maybe it's different now but when I ordered mine MTO the process was basically just that, starting out with a standard model and selecting whatever options you wantedMine didn't cost anything more than a standard Front Range because I just got the chocolate work leather and all the options I wanted (boot height, heel type, edge dressing, sole, etc.) didn't cost anything extra Obviously different if you want a more exotic leather or if you're asking the guy for something special like a tanker or something but yeah Frank will make you basically whatever you want, and usually most basic options are free to choose for MTO except for stuff like different leathers for upper and vamp, safety toes, insulation, etc.
>>18668985>mfw just realized you said no reason NOT to get MTO

>>18668890Well fuck me then...>>18668898I think if I sized down more they'd be too small for me, it's already a whole size smaller than my usual sizeHow would a shoe tree help with this?>>18669093Thicker socks don't help me, it still wrecks my toe. Haven't tried wearing it in summer tier warm weather but didn't wear it during the coldest winter temps eitherShould've gone for Blacksmiths without the cap toe...
>>18669137>How would a shoe tree help with this?Shoe trees prevent excesive creasing... to a degree. But you should have used them from the start, not sure if they'd help at this point. I wear a size 10 in sneakers, went for a 9.5 originally in IRs and the same hsppened on my left foot. Got another pair on size 9 and they're perfect.
>>18669137i wear a larger regular sock on top of the boot sock and bend it upwards like a shield to protect my toes. shit werks try it
>>18669158But if the creasing happens during wear... or you mean the shoe tree kind of stretches or evens it back into the non creased form better? >>18669168What about summer wear, isn't that gonna be hot

>>18669200>or you mean the shoe tree kind of stretches or evens it back into the non creased form better?Yes, to a degree, and it might be too late for those, still a small investment with potential big payoff.Still, the shape of the creases in your pic leads me to beleive they're half a size too big.

Keep hearing about how good value these are supposed to be but looks like you get what you pay for. Although obviously it’s nice to support a small business or whatever but the people pretending that they’re Viberg level quality…?
>>18673157>that stitching on the counter If I remember correctly this guy was jaded with his current job and life and just decided to get some tools and start making his own boots. No training or anything, just watching youtube videos of cobblers and boot makers and copying what they did In that regard it's very cool what he's managed to do and that he's even been as successful as he is But on the other, I'd still like a more polished and professional product. I have no doubt they will get better and better as the guy gets more experienced
>>18668688bought these a bit ago in the waterproof/full leather ones, really enjoy them.comfortable for all day walking. got slightly wider feet so their extra wide sizing is neato. sole is very good so far, previously had a pair of RM Williams chelsea boots (comfort craftsmen) and those were fairly slippery when it rained, these however are really good.only complaint is in warmer/humid weather, feet do get fairly warm, understandably so given the waterproofing/leather. would recommend the other styles (i'll probably get a second pair) for warmer climates. also fuark this captcha
>>18673166Goretex is bad for warmer weather. Luckily they have a non GTX model. Also that is brutal shipping/taxes.
this sole option is interesting. looks good imo
>>18673169yeah, and this is when it was on sale. ausfags getting fuarked up the rear on shipping, the usual. given they seem to be able to last for a long time, i'm pretty happy about it. surprisingly no in country stores stock 'em or deal 'em.haven't really managed to find boots that accommodate wider feet without either being stupidly $ or looking like i'm wearing clown boots.used to have a pair of garmont t8's which i abused to shit, really good in the bush, not so great in city, soles were a bit slippery in the wet. unsure how well the non GTX vers will fair up against using them against shift lever on a motorbike. (can't be fuarked wearing riding boots erryday)
>>18673173They look good - I will get a pair in non gtx.

>>18675207When Whites says "hand welted" are they referring to the way traditional cowboy boots are made where you cut a slit into the insole and stitch through that to attach the welt and uppers? Or do they do it the Japanese way where they take a thick ass piece of leather and carve out a holdfast and sew through that? Basically making a gemming out of leather
