Is /fit/ a pro-rice or pro-potato board? Last time this thread was active it was clear that Europeans prefer potatoes while Americans prefer rice. Has this changed?
>>
>>74104957
Both are great but for different reasons. Rice is more calorie dense, easily digestible and less filling, so it's great for bulking or a regular high(er) calorie diet. Potatoes have better micros, are less calorie dense and more filling, so they are nice on a cut or low calorie diet. They are too different in that regard to pick one over the other, it depends on the circumstances.
>>
>>74104957
Objectively, potatoes. Nutrient density is higher (compare 100 g of each)
https://tools.myfooddata.com/nutrition-comparison/168930-170438/100g-100g/1-1/1

More fibre, more minerals in potato.
>>
Both at the same time is an underated banger
>>
I'm just here to watch the low carvers/carnies tell people these staples cause disease etc
>>
>>74104957
I love both. They are my preferred source of carbs. However, potatoes are simply godly. I could eat an entire bag at once, with olive oil or butter, and salt mmmm
>>
>potatoes high in oxalates

>>74104957
I tend to eat rice for lunch and potatoes for dinner.
Potatoes are overall better, but rice is more convenient to make and not much worse.

I can eat rice like a crackhead. I use it a ton in meal prep and have not even come close to burning out.
No disrespect to the potato, it's good and has its place, but good jasmine rice along with some variant of chicken breast has been my standard dinner for ages. Case in point, here's what I had tonight and will be having the rest of this week.
>>
>>74104982
Gonna have to try this at my next refeed, thanks for the idea. Rice + tatoes does sound pretty damn good.
>>

Brown rice is such a fucking meme, retards think it's healthier but ignore the fact that every Asian culture eats nothing but white rice.

Rice bros I need help. I sincerely don't get what I'm doing wrong my rice never comes out this perfect way everyone else seems to be able to do so effortlessly. Can someone hook me up to a basic, foolproof instruction for how to do it? I usually do one cup of rice and three cups of water, boil the water, reduce heat, add rice and cook until it feels ready but it usually ends up over or undercooked and I've never gotten the texture right.

Buy an electric rice cooker. I too never got it right and this thing make it a nobrainer, made me stop buying delivery lunch.
>>
>>74106803
it's normally 1 part rice 2 parts water
>rinse rice until water is clear. use a fine mesh strainer
>put rice and water in pot
>add salt, spices, tomato sauce, whatever
>boil on highest heat
>once bubbles start to form, put on air tight lid (no holes at all) and reduce heat to lowest setting or nearly lowest (depends on how much rice you are making, power of stove, pot thickness, etc.)
>cook 10-15 minutes (also depends on the rice)
>turn off heat and leave it on the burner, still covered, for another 10 minutes
enjoy
>>
>>74106803
>Can someone hook me up to a basic, foolproof instruction for how to do it?

Stovetop:
>get 0.5 cup of white rice
>put in 1.5x amount of water (0.75 cups)
>bring to boil over high heat
>cover and put on low (not very low) and let it steam for 15 minutes if short grain, 20 minutes if long grain rice
>take off heat but don't remove cover for 5-10 minutes
>fluff with fork or rubber spatula and eat

get a rice cooker, I think you can get one for 20$. Equal part rice and water. I like firm chewy rice not mushy rice. The finger method doesn't work for me cause Asians have tiny fingers and I don't (also asian)
>>
>>74105087
>Oxalates are good for you
they are not
they steal calcium from your body and make kidney stones
potatoes don't have enough to be dangerous, you would have to be a total fucking weakling to get kidney stones from a fucking potato

it's another story if you're eating DGLVs, which will easily give you kidney stones

>cook the rice until it doesn't stick to your wooden spoon (no water yet)
>boil water on the side
>when the rice gets transparent and doesn't stick anymore, pour the hot water in
>pour enough water until you don't see the rice
>season it (pepper or salt or both)
>leave the lid almost closed, but with a small opening
>low heat
>wait until all water has evaporated, NEVER STIR

done

my experience after being on keto for about 3 months now (fatass losing fat) was that my carb cravings disappeared completely about a month in. i sometimes still feel "oh it would be nice to have some rice" from time to time but those strong carb craving impulses are all gone now for me.

>>
>>74107006
i don't think i'm in a huge deficit, i track my calories very autistically but i might be doing something wrong.

based on my height, weight, and bf% estimate, my sedentary TDEE is about 2050 calories. i consistently eat 2100-2200 calories a day (mostly fatty beef and eggs, plus a little dairy). i lift weights for an hour 3 days a week, and go for a one hour leisurely walk the other 4 days a week. i don't think i burn more than 200 calories from exercise per day, so idk how i've lost so much weight so quickly.
>>

I use an Instant Pot(tm). 1:1 water:rice ratio, pressure cook on high for 4 minutes, allow to sit on Natural Release for 10 minutes, release the pressure and it's ready to go.
If you really want guaranteed perfect rice buy a Zojirushi rice cooker. Also, ALWAYS wash the rice before cooking.
>>
>>74108341
The recipe checks out except for the mayo- unless you're making your own there's a 99.999% chance it's just a bottle of seed oil. Luckily it's extremely easy to make with olive oil at home.
>>
>>74104974
You can substitute rice with a pure sugar. Does absolutely the same, the same amount of micronutrients. But no arsenic... it's ridiculous how people were memed into earing rice and that it's still not banned because of arsenic. The only reason the usa didin't ban it, is because people in third world shotholes would starvw without it.
>>
>>74104957
Rice is easier to slow bulk off of because you can slightly increase the amount and get it to the exact gram.

Its extremaly convienient if you eat a lot of rice. Half of asia use it tho i suspect it could be partially because of different kitchen design. Multiburner stoves are less popular so something you can plug into outlet is propably important. It cooks perfect rice every time, turns off automatically, you dont need to tinker with temperature the way you do with a stove.

The humble tuber sharpened the minds of great thinkers, nourished the bodies of great conquerors and tempered the spirits of great explorers. The potato man is kept lean, energised and alert, prepared to inspire both book and song for generations to come.

Thee arrogant grain is mere fuel for cattle and to fatten up the detestable rice-slave yet keeps them too weak to overthrow their shackles.

There is no comparison.
