Obligatory first post despising the ego strikers who try to kill the new guys. If you do this, you must eat glass and die.

I am a 33 year old boomer who is pretty strong and fit for his old age. People said since I have long limbs and a long torso I would be good at kickboxing but I also know there must be other factors?

Price is a huge factor here and MMA gyms are expensive. In an ideal world Id train BJJ and kickboxing but I cannot afford both.

Also people told me go for regular boxing.

How do I know if I would be good at it or not?
>>
i used to do bjj twice a day and kick boxing once a day and go to the gym every day and then a white belt gave me an mcl injury by yanking my leg in a way it doesn't go from turtle position and now i haven't gone in like a year whats the best way to rehab the knee to go back to martial sharts.

Long limbs is always a plus for a combat sport. Equal opponents and one has 2 inches height and reach and it's GG. It is a little pricey, but these gyms margin are usually not great. May be worth a shot for some BJJ. Not too late.

>>74119388
PNF stretching, kneesovertoes guy on YT. Unironically.
>>
>>74119382
You're 33. Why does it matter if you'll be "good". You are too old to be a champion. If you train 6 months you'll be better than the average guy on the street. You do it for a year or two you'll be a bad motherfucker. Is that not good enough?

I'm 34. I used to train, haven't in years. I'm going back after my recovery, knowing I'm too old to even compete against talented 16yos, so I'm gonna get one or two amateur matches off my bucket list and then never stepping in the ring again. I'm just in it because I enjoy the sport.

It's irrelevant how you look like.

sorry for blogpost
I'm currently 19 years old and have been practicing jiu-jitsu and kickboxing for about a year. I began boxing at the age of 15, so I've accumulated roughly four years of experience in martial arts.

What age do you think would be suitable for me to have my first MMA fight ?

How much experience do I need ?
>>
>>74119970
This should be a discussion with your coach, but you should be going to local fights and assessing the skills of the other fighters, assessing your weaknesses that distance you between them, and then going into fights when you are confident you can win and build a good record.
>>
Went boxing at lunch and nogi just now. Good day

If you've ever sparred with freak specimens, you'd know that these guys sometimes show up out of nowhere, with minimal training and start destroying veterans. Yeah, as a 34yo just starting, you'll have no chance against a dedicated young kid that has been training for years.

>>74120375
If you want to become world class or championship material, yes. There are only perhaps a hand full of people that start 30+ and still have a good career. Even if you are a freak athlete that somehow never got noticed and put in a gym before, you'll need a few years of training to get decent enough to compete professionally, so at the time you are developed enough to compete you are likely just past your prime anyway, and only have two or three years left to go before retirement age.
>>
>>74120375
If you're not already a professional fighter at 30 then yes its old to start out, your body simply cannot take as much damage and training in your 30s its just a fact of life
>>
>>74119903
I know you're baiting but when drilling high hook and swivel i see like 2 guys who make it their mission to hurt everyonr they can and it's suspiciously always against new strikers and not our vets or competitors.

Hmm very intriguing yes indeed.

Currently training BJJ nogi once a week and gi twice a week.

I really hate the gi bros, been training it for like a year but just don't enjoy it.

Just I wait for purple before switching to an MMA gym where I can do only nogi or is there value to sticking with the gi until purple (I am mid blue now)?

>mfw starting MMA in 2 weeks
This is $120 + 40 for two sets of rash guards for nogi, how did I do? Gloves are the thickest they had with open fingers, 8oz. Used them on heavy bag already and wrist support is decent with the long straps, will be better when the 180 straps are here. I think I'm in at the lowest price, I could always wear them out and upgrade.

R8, h8, appreci8?
>>
>>74119701
You can literally roll with your eyes closed. Last tournament I saw a blind guy walking out to the ring with a cane. Get out there and train.
>>
>>74122977
Just switch gyms already. The only merit in training in the gi is that if you get into a street fight with someone wearing a lot of clothes it will make it easier, however those skills of clothing manipulation are gained before blue belt. Learning spider guard and lapel shit has no application to anything besides sport BJJ in the gi

I do gi BJJ now because a pretty bad shoulder dislocation took me out of wrestling back in college. It's just nice to be back on the mat after 6 years even though it isn't as intense as I'm used to. If there was a judo place in my area I would've started that instead.
>>
>>74124083
Plz be nice I never used one before. Wrestled for 6 years and some college, never wore a cup. Should I go compression short cup route? I planned to wear compression shorts over the cup.
>>

>Take time off of wrestling (small, dying) to box (large community, growing)
If anything it's based. Obviously not for your purposes but a wrestler who can strike well is well set up for beginning MMA if that's his route.

Do Jiu Jitsu for two years, great school, chill instructor, no egos erc, get blue belt, get injured, out for a year, move to anew city and decide to get back into. Contact nearest dojo and ask about pricing etc, get sent a giant list of details including

>must refer to all black belts as professor
>must always walk onto mat with right foot first

Nah, I wanted to learn Jiu Jitsu not join a cult. I’ll just be content with my blue belt.

Yeah aint nobody trying to grapple prime mike, id rather perfect my kickboxing. Hey if you see a 360 back kick end a fight in hw ufc in like 2yrs thats me, my backup plan for if i cant toilfag in software dev next college run.
>>
>>74119970
Man just spar thr competitors, hit the bag 10x as much, and lift like you are going to a powerlifting meet. Maybe hit some more cleans for jumping amd arms shoulders bench for boxing.

Until youre way fiercer than anyone else no reason to get unnecessary brain damage, thats for 25+ grown men they hit hard to the head. The longer the better for ezwin. If youre really dedicated you can be champ, just gotta know how to train.
>>
>>74124818
I don't think you understand how big wrestling is for teenagers and how small boxing is. Like an order of magnitude difference
>>
>>74126248
If youre really strong the 20% debuff wont matter. Prioritize lifting, and watch how much better you are 1 week no lifting. Being at 4pl8 bench 5pl8squat is hw champ levels of strength.
>>
>>74126349
Id rather be a god of boxing unabke to be wrestled, same with kickboxing to boxing.
>>
>>74119903
Meh, someone like george foreman is chill as fuck and strong as shit too. Being able to be calm is a virtue, comes with muscle memory training.

Thats the shit thatll get you kod being reckless. If youre calm it makes shit seem to happen slower, rage is a crutch.

Boxing and BJJ are very effective in the real world as martial arts. Boxing for standup fighting, BJJ for grappling. There is a reason it is taught to cops.

Muay Thai is also effective for standup fighting, while Sambo and Judo takedowns are good for moving from standup fighting to grappling. Boxing and BJJ alone are sufficient, my dad was a boxer and fought in tournaments as a young man, only studied boxing.

I do not study Krav Maga. Once met a woman here in America some years ago who learned Krav Maga from her service in the IDF. I said to her that Krav Maga has no honor or humanity for the opponent.

She became upset and changed the subject before I even mentioned the word Palestine. She tried to sleep with me after that and I spurned her on GP.

If you are just interested in cardio and general fitness then the cheapest gym. If you are interested in self protection then carry pepper spray and a knife (a gun if you can) and learn to use those. You do not want to risk an actual street fight for legal reasons or because its a set up and you will be attacked by numerous people. If you have to fight to get your spray or knife out to use you would need basic strikes - kickboxing for the knees, kicks, and elbow strikes, boxing for the punching and punching combos. You want to learn to "see" your opponent setting up for sucker punch or kick, and block or strike first. You do not want to go to the ground in a street fight - strike and get out.
>>
>>74119422
both on steroids, but tyson had skill and training from a top coach, so likely tyson. Someone who understood boxing and tyson's style would need to use proper counter strikes to beat tyson. Tyson's sparring partner knocked him out. Then Buster douglas, then evander hollyfield. As long as they stayed covered up and counter punched when Tyson threw his left hook they had a chance. Morrison did not see smart enough for the strategy and patience.

>How do I know if I would be good at it

>>
How realistic is it that I'll be able to learn Muay Thai without sustaining any brain damage?
I'm a beginner now and I have no intentions of ever going pro.
>>
Anyone has a stretching program for higher kicks and maybe do the split?
>>
>>74128003
This brain damage thing is a scam. You're fighting heavyweights nor are you fighting/training to absolutely destroy your opponent.
You'd have to have thirty years of training to feel those kind of changes in your brain.
>>
>>74122977
>is there value to sticking with the gi until purple (I am mid blue now)?
No. Adapt your gi training to avoid gi grips/techniques, and switch when you can. If you request no-gi rounds and go to open mats you can probably get a lot more no-gi rounds. While you're at your current gym, you should still attend gi classes just so you can get a lot of time on the mats.
>t. ditched the gi shortly after getting my blue belt, no regrets
>>
>>74126156
>chill instructor, no egos

It happens sometimes. My blowjob jay jim is like that. Very laid-back.

>>74126985
Aren't they aiming at your head? Bend your knees, bro.
>>
>>74128003
Not all professionals to ever step in the ring get brain damage, what makes you think anyone that isn't a pro is going to get brain damage just because they hit pads and maybe spar lightly a couple of times per month? Just don't end up in one of those places where they record the students getting beat up by the instructor for chin condition and you'll be fine.
>>
>>74129316
I am simply paranoid and don't want to realize that I've been giving myself brain damage after the fact.

>Chin conditioning
Fighters usually lose their chins the more they get knocked out
>>
>>74128098
>>74119451
Same advice. Mix in mobility movements like high knees, extended lunges, and generally movements that take full ROM in dynamic motion. Will take some time to get there, it's a hard movement for people who are conditioned in sitting all day
>>
>brain damage, TBIs
>They haven't into semax, selank, cerebrolysin, reparative peptides
NGMI btw
>>
>>74130284
Any review on semax/selank?
I used cerebrolysin some years ago and it was very good but last time I ordered it (from Russia) it got held back at customs and returned to sender, so a bit harder to come by nowadays.
