I tried Wim Hof breathing for the first time and I'm intrigued by the things he's supposedly able to endure, but I can't seem to get a straightforward answer about what these exercises are supposed to be doing in my body. Just a lot of other guys saying Wim Hof breathing is dangerous because you may drown, which sounds like pilpul designed to keep me away from miracle cancer cures to me. Does anyone else follow his methods? For how long/often and have you noticed any benefits?
>>

>breathing will cure your [insert current diagnosis here]
it's a scam targeting scared vulnerable people worried about their health
>>
>>74214213
But he also does cold plunge and sauna which I have done before because it is supposedly good for your blood vessels and circulation. It made me extremely tired afterwards. I was also tired after the Wim Hof breathing.
>>
From what I have read he is basically the white guy that learned tummo breathing, it would be virtually impossible to get to his level without being taught by someone else who can guide you through the exercises. But you should still do breathing exercises especially buteyko.

interesting. I'll look into these terms. had not heard of that. But you think it can't be guided through instructions on a video? Which would imply the instructor needs to see/touch your body while you do them?

I paid hundreds of dollars for his course. Do 90 hyperventilating breaths and you are guaranteed to feel some of it. It is tedious but worth it. It reversed my celiac disease to such an extent my autoimmune response to gluten was negligible for 90% of my exposure period. It turned what was normally an inflammatory response of bedridden week's worth of mayhem into 3 hours of a mild migraine and bloated belly ache.
I could do 80 pushups in one breath when before I struggled to crank out 25 ordinary pushups. Going into ice baths and ice pools I activated this super saiyain cloud of vapor off of me like a walking sauna. The ice baths were the best part. I really enjoyed them. They made me supple. They gave me an unlimited gas tank of David Goggins level stamina but for boxing not running. Protip cover yourself in coconut fat and run up a death mountain. Why? Because it's fun.
>>
>>74214370
Yeah but why is he so much better at it? Us it because he learned it on his own and didn't have some traditionalist crippling his exploration? He has done some pretty amazing things

It is a bitch to do WHM outside of an icy biome. Moving to the southwest I kept it up for 3 years everyday until I caved and let that old questline rot like old abandoned exercise equipment. It is pure tenacity. You lose the benefits quickly as they came but you dont lose the healed heals.

Tibetans are not big into media projects but they are genetically better than Wim at a pedigree level for this task.

Thanks for being thorough.
>>74214532
What bennies do you think it gave you?
>>
>>74214540
Never seen any Tibetans do anything in the cold. They are not a mystery to the rest of the world either anymore and we have never seen the extreme cold mastery from any of them. Maybe because they are taught by other people controlling their path and not the cold?

Benefits:
WD40 for your insides.
NO2 video game boost for your bloodstream.
It is like morphine mind seperation for many of your pains. I started working my way up to breaking boards in martial arts independent of a teacher. I broke some tiles and small boards but nothing big before I feared doing something stupid by myself. The ice baths had conditioned me to be fearless at launching full force punches at walls and shin kicks that bent aluminum pipes.
Emotionally the ice victory is like what I imagine smoking meth is like yet booting up a calculator like Neo from the matrix. I ended up screaming at a blizzard and eating a whole box of chocolate mint cookies at a mountain peak that almost blew me off into the cavernous abyss.
It will kill muscle building because you desperately need muscle inflammation to build muscle. But it will improve your coordination and neural drive to milk the most power out of your nerves. Sleep will improve. My libido was shot during a year of post break up abstinence/total mental chastity so I cannot call this a boner pill. It probably is the opposite considering how often your penis is inactive and at its smallest. That awoke this primal fear of eunuchizing in me that made me go on my looksmaxxing swipe app quest to put myself out there again.

Good stuff. So to be clear you are talking about the hyperventilating breathing exercises combined with I assume ice baths or other prolonged cold exposure (in combo with sauna? hot/cold cycling? or just cold) and it reduces inflammation in your whole body as well as stamina and mental ability increases. Were there any additional methods I'm missing besides cold and breathing?
>>
>>74214213
It's a scam for what? He's not making money by just telling you how to breathe.
>>
>>74214640
>>74214640
Correct.
All I tried were the breaths and the ice methods. I also have done my own eastern quest forays and had little fruit out of that besides Indians looking at me unwelcomingly weird at temples.
The few yoga postures he recommends are to get bloodflow into the articulations. Do not sleep on the simple legs in the air or shoving your head up your ass past your knees. I replaced all other yoga with just powercleans and have been doing better. While the simple leg raise posture progresses nothing it prevents circulatory stagnation everytime. While you are beginner it is recommended to wear gloves, boots, and a hat into cold hikes. It takes quite a bit of focused training to overcome this and it is easy to slide back. I have never been able to get over the heat only the cold as much as I have wanted to. I think Wim must have tried Bikram Yoga which I have not delved into.

Would you say one session of say 5 hyperventilation/hold cycles (the ones he instructs to do, you know) per day is sufficient? Two times, one in morning and one at night? Or is it more like you should do however much you can fit in your day because the benefits compound? thanks bro I appreciate your experience

Hard to say. Its a nerve thing more than an O2 thing in my opinion. The variability is insane. The ice baths are the only sensible falsifiable skillcheck. I hate tedious tasks. I love Mentzer's HIT and Rip's SS because of how far from tedious it is. It's more like lighting an ember than putting reps in. I follow Mentzer's philosophy for WHM progressive overload. I am missing the elephant in the room of Bikram to see the missing link of pure breathing exercises in the S*uthwest. My ex gf from India is a researcher who had the answer but shes gone and I am so sad to have lost a gold mine of future tier medical knowledge (and lovable gf but that's offtopic).

His mindset around cold is great, especially if you live in a cold climate. After starting his cold exposure methods I get sick way less often and feel way less discomfort about cold weather. It's not a miracle cure but it's just really good for strenghtening your immune system.
>Wim Hof breathing is dangerous because you may drown
You're not supposed to do the breathing in water so idk where you got that from
I never felt many benefits from the breathing personally but it's a great meditation exercise
>>
Is the breathing really important? I have that up but continued the cold exposure and it's been life changing enough as is. I have so much more energy and can deal much better with heat stress and emotional stress.

Any thermic effect from the breathing is just a matter of the fact that with all that focused breathing you're actually exercising. No shit you get warmer when you exercise.

I do fully exhale. I didn't have a problem with holding my breath after that (I went back to the video to confirm it was actually 90 seconds and was surprised, I didn't know I could hold my breath that long.) How's your cardio? I do a lot of low impact cardio. I also don't smoke although I was a weed smoker until recently. Do you smoke? Is it a mental feeling (like fear of suffocating) that makes you breathe in or do you really feel like you're out of oxygen? I'm sure you can work your way up, lots of resources out there for swimmers to increase the time they can hold their breath.

No smoking or other shit that should affect it, I'm just going to google swimmer breathe holds or some shit. For now I breathe out but I guess it's like 75%. Basically letting it relax, but not pushing the last air out, if that makes sense.
