Losing the leg drive (which it looks like he wasn't correctly utilizing anyway) is what caused him to fail that rep. Ankle mobility literally saves lives. I only incline now, but back when I flat benched, every single time, even if it's the same bench, with all the hold/safeties at the same level, part of the warmup is bringing the empty bar down, rolling it up to my neck, and confirming that they don't contact and it free floats.

#1 Rule use safeties when you are attempting a PR, 1RM, etc. If the bench / rack you are on doesn't have em go find em or move to another spot.
Don't use clips when attempting a PR / 1RM so you can easily dump the weight to one side if need be.
Don't be a big arching faggot.
If you feel you are going to drop the weight push it towards your sternum / stomach.
Dropping hundreds of pounds there is very survivable vs your neck where you can easily die from getting pinned down.
At worst you might break your sternum or ribs.
At best you will just have to do the roll of shame and be completely unharmed.
