hey /fit/ so i am a bit overweight like in picrel (bmi 36). I tried to do some push-ups today but when I got to the ground my belly was too big and it drags and bends my spine down into a curve (picrel). Nevertheless, I still got to 25 pushups before my back begins to hurt a lot so I stopped and now my lower back feels really sore. Is there any chance I might give myself herniated discs if I keep doing pushups? Thanks !
>>74620579Low back pain for pushups usually means you either>have a back injury you didn't know about>(more likely) your abs and glutes aren't being kept tight
>>74620579No, you're fine.
>>74620579nobut you should work on your straight arm planks and tuck your butt in for as long as you can
>>74620579Maybe do other things until you lose some more weight. You don't want to put your back out exercising, it's important to stabilise your body and if you're not quite there yet with strength, the extra weight plus imbalances can cause issues. If your diet is dialled in get a gym membership and start on the machines, resistance training will help, just take care. Good work for giving it a go.
