I'm planning on taking ambien for the rest of my life. Anyone else been on sleeping pills long-term? Have tried CBT-I, sleep hygiene, and every lifestyle adjustment under the sun and just can't fall asleep on time.
>>
i don't think they usually prescribe ambien for long-term every day use. your tolerance goes through the roof after a few weeks.
>>
the only time i took ambien i went on facebook messenger and typed literal nonsense messages like "aksdifejwlskndc" to every one of my friends who was online in the middle of the night for 3 hours then passed out in the computer chair until my dad found me in the morning 2/10 would not recommend

>every lifestyle adjustment under the sun
you should try adjusting your life when not under the sun

Best sleep aid Ive tried is mirtazapine, take 15mg and you will be asleep within 30 minutes. Even works if you're high as fuck on stimulants

That shit causes major weight gain fyi, I gained a lot on it last year. Everyone is different tho.

>prescription appetite stimulant causes weight gain
Yeah
>>
>>75471222
I definitely gained some weight when I took 30mg, decreasing the dose to 15mg helped tp get rid of most of the cravings
>>
Ambien is a benzo and your tolerance will spike if you use it constantly. Realistically you can't expect to take it everyday for the rest of your life
>>
Try trazodone. Basically date rape in a pill for yourself. I wouldn't recommend it daily, but it's quite effective for me in a pinch.
Xanex always KOs me too, but that's much harder to get prescribed and more prone to addiction.
Lorazapam, kolonopin and Adivan are extremely similar to xanex but less potent and last longer which is not ideal for this usecase.

My sleep is so bad but getting a purple matteress, sleep mask, nasal dial8r/nasal strips, and controlling blue light around 8pm on all devices helped me tons.

I would avoid Ambien. Everyone I know who took it did absolutely retarded things and some even got arrested. Stuff like anon typing random gibberish to all his friends is common.

Galapentine I take daily and its honestly a miracle drug if you have issues staying asleep. I've never experienced withdrawals when I forget to take it, but many people I know have.

Kratom and other opiates dramatically reduced the quality of sleep I got, so I'd need 10 hours instead of 7-8. They work well for getting to sleep though. Just understand they're all basically heroine.

Benedryl has helped me sleep but my neurologist said daily use can cause brain damage over decades.

No experience with mirtazapine, but it seems structurally similar to Trazodone from my skimming of Google.

Honestly I'd avoid Ambien and try Gabapentine at 1200mg (some may say this is high but it just werks for me) to stay asleep and Trazodone/Benzos to get to sleep. Kratom and Benedryl are great in a pinch, but they're basically heroine and you DON'T want a habit.

Good luck anon. I've struggled with proper sleep scheduling my whole life, but this is the knowledge I can try to share with you.

Oh, and don't EVER EVER become a daily benzo user. They are the absolute worst druggies to deal with. I'd take an alcoholic or a heroine addict over a benzo addict any day of the week. For daily shit, go with Trazodone

It's (mirtzapine) anti-depressant indicated by the FDA for depressive disorders, it's not immediately obvious that it will cause weight gain and a lot of doctors won't tell you this.
>>75471434 It's (ambien) literally called a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic. Only targets on the specific subsection of GABA-A receptor responsible for sleep, so no anxiolytic or muscle relaxant effects or anti-seziure. Withdrawals aren't nearly as bad as benzos.
>>75471457 I’ve tried trazodone at every dose, but it just isn’t sedating enough for me. Instead, it causes anxiety, restlessness, and a sense of impending doom (for me). Also, its side effect profile is usually worse than that of Ambien. The main reason psychiatrists are hesitant to prescribe Ambien is the overstated risk of dependence, it's very true potential abuse , and the fact that it’s a controlled substance. In reality, it’s not as habit-forming as outsiders will claim.

The issue with medications primarily prescribed for insomnia is that taking more will typically lead to greater sedation or a ‘high.’ This differs from off-label drugs like Seroquel, mirtazapine, or trazodone, which tend to have a diminishing return on sedation as the dose increases, while often causing more unpleasant side effects instead. Unlike trazodone, which has broader receptor activity (e.g., serotonin, histamine), Ambien is highly selective for the GABA-A receptor and does not significantly interact with serotonin, histamine, or adrenergic receptors And unlike benzodizepines which also target the GABA-A more broadly, Z-drugs like ambien target mainly GABA-A alpha 1 subunit so you'll only get sedation and less anti-anxiety, muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant effects. This makes the withdrawals of ambien much less severe than benzodiazpines which are the devil to withdrawal from as a daily user.

Subjectively, benadryl has ruined my memory and I've been taking it since early 2022. Other people have noticed this about me

I used to take mirtazapine, and it worked great. Then it stopped working, and no tolerance break seemed to help.

Now I'm just tired a lot.

I'm open to any suggestions.

A blood test said I had low vitamin D. I'm working on raising my D levels. Perhaps when I get my D maxxed, my sleep will be better?

The actual incidence of complex sleep behaviors or blackouts on ambien is less than 1 percent, as long as you don't combine it with other substances and/or take more than prescribed. People doing retarded stuff after taking ambien is almost always because they double dose or drink alcohol or something. I've had a hard time with this because I'm retarded degenerate, but I've been slowly getting better with this and I almost always make it through a months supply without running out now.
My doc and I were considered gabapentin, but we are gonna stick with ambien as I'm already on another anticonvulsant for other reasons.

It's given to dogs as a prescription medication to make them eat and gain weight.

I just use a 5mg THC gummy every night to fall asleep. Worked way better than Ambien and meltatonin

Yes.
I've been an obsessive insomniac for over a decade. There's lots of generic advice out there about melatonin and sleep hygiene out there, but if there's any specific advice you'd like, I can try to help you. Ideally, you go to your doctor to rule out underlying causes, which are the primary reason for insomnia because most cases have an underlying cause. I also know everything from CBT for insomnia and all about home remedies/ life and have tried quite a few insomnia drugs.

It doesn't matter. Most people will talk to their doctor and will google about it and for most, the most they will uncover is that it's an anti-depressant that's used off-label for sleep. You call it a 'prescription appetite stimulant' as if that somehow is or becomes common knowledge.

If something is given for a purpose, it becomes immediately obvious what the action of the drug is. Thats All I am pointing out. No idea why you are turning this into something I Didnt say or inply it was obvious just like I Didnt assume that you implied the mechanism of action of any of these niche medications was obvious and well known. Calm down.

The bottom line is it has the potential to cause major weight gain, and I thought people should know that, especially if they are or are considering taking it. Some or most people in either of these camps don't know this.
>>
Just take melatonin or valerian holy shit you don't need to 'sedate' yourself

Thats what I said

>Ideally, you go to your doctor to rule out underlying causes

Underlying causes like what? I've been tested for D, B12, folate, iron, thyroid, testosterone

I don't get why I just randomly, in my late 20s, lost the ability to sleep through the night.
>>
>>75471959
Could be stress and anxiety or proper mental illness, stimulants like nicotine, or stress, or medication side effects, anything. Blood work doesn't reveal everything. I'd suggest going to a sleep doctor.
>>
>>75471938
It was addressed in my subsequent reply. Stop being combative and trying to have the last word. The conversation is over
