What you're describing is a protein-sparing modified fast. They work great but they're usually used in like a 2 weeks on - 2 weeks at maintence fashion because it doesn't run into the wall as hard hormonally. But yes maintence volume. With the caveat that intensity is going up since maintaining intensity helps preserve strength and muscle mass and is harder to recover after the cut than just work capacity.If you're fatter than normal you can probably do the first round until you run into that wall rather than trying to anticipate it but really either approach is fine. But that's ok, because your muscle will continue growing, as long as you give it a pump each workout. Eat lots of protein and train to failure. If you feel like you've got a set in you, do it. If you feel like you've got two sets in you, do it. Just be careful not to overtrain. If you think you've got a set in you, but you can't do more than 5 reps, don't bother.

That's called "Recomping".It's possible, but very difficult unless you're fairly obese. Many people can do this if they're out of shape and never exercise, but they reach a point where they don't have enough excess fat.If you're morbidly obese, you can lose 10lbs a month for months on-end all the while gaining a significant amount of muscle.If you're already less than 20% body fat, it gets much closer to impossible.

Anywhere above like 18%, in my experience of recomp, you can build muscle and lose fat while in a cut in a reasonable amount of time. You need to keep your diet high protein obviously. Anyways, below that BF% it becomes very difficult and you’ll need to lean bulk in order to build more muscle efficiently. To further clarify, you can still build muscle despite that and continue cutting, but it will get slower and slower the lower your BF gets since there’s less fat for your body to burn as fuel.
