I wish I knew that beginners shouldn't bother with 'beginner' routines like Starting Strength and Stronglifts 5x5 and should just make their own routine with a mix of compounds and isolations focusing on hypertrophy only. I wasted so much time. Why was I doing bent over rows? I didn't care about having a 'good back.' I just wanted bigger arms, chest and abs. But all I'd see on /fit/ was "beginners should start with this" and "you should aim for 1/2/3/4" which is retarded. I'm ripped as fuck now and I see people in the gym now all the time making the same mistake I used to. They're lifting heavy weight, benching 2+ plates, but they look like shit. No definition. No isolation movements. Just doing compounds. Still thinking they'll get my physique if they can deadlift 4 plates. I don't even do deadlifts. But you can't explain it to these people. They have to figure it out for themselves after a year of realising they wasted all that time only to look like chubby with minimal muscle mass increase because they didn't train in hypertrophy rep ranges.

Just don't go crazy with the weight at first and keep the reps high-ish like 8-15 if you're a total noob. Please note this phase shouldn't last long, it should be as long as you need to get a movement and have first hand experience with your limits. Not that anon btw I wish I started with SS.
