Saturday Training

Sunday Training
>1-Arm Rows, 1-Arm Chest Press, Face Pulls, Upright Rows, Tricep Pushdows & Curls, partially superset, all 5x20, all with a medium band

Monday Training
>Incline Backwards Walking, 2.5km/hr, 10 minutes at 7.5° incline, 20 minutes at 10° incline
>Barbell Rows 4@60kg, 4@65kg, 4@70kg, 4@75kg, 4@80kg, 4@85kg, 4@90kg, 4@95kg, 4@100kg

>Neutral-Grip Pulldowns 12@85kg, 12@90kg, 10@95kg
>Dip Machine 15@75kg, 12@85kg, 10@95kg

Decided to get a pump before hitting the bars on Saturday, so I used a band I had on hand. The pump was absolutely sickening.
Loved it so much I decided to do it Sunday too. I'll incorporate is where I can.
I included 1-Arm Chest Press and Face Pulls because I want to improve shoulder health. The chest press is to strengthen the movement of the shoulder moving forward and backwards through the press. Strength without the shoulder pinned back like in bench.

The backwards walking was kicking my ass so bad I was worried I had a cold I didn't know about. Turns out I'm just not fit.
35kg BB Row PR. I last BB Rowed on Nov 1.
Swapped out bench for chest press machine because I didn't want to lay down. This is a different isolateral chest machine from the last one I used. I could only move about a third of the weight on this one. I didn't expect the difference to be that large.

How many times do I need to plateau and reset on SS before transitioning to something else?
One workout everything is perfect, things go well and seem easy, I'll be upbeat and daydream how much I'll be lifting a month later.
Then all it takes is two workouts where I miss reps to wonder what I'm doing wrong, if I actually need to radically change things about my lifts, whether to deload and by how much.
Doing this while cutting surely isn't helping, but I get quality sleep and enough protein.

Just getting back to consistent trainning after many, many back and hip injuries from overtraining like a psycho, currently on a deload after some good training so I figure now is a good time to get on a proper program. I mostly care about my press and my squat

currently at 120kg squat, 80kg press, haven't deadlifted in a long time but I can do at least 160kg, 6ft, 20, 82kg

any suggestions for programs? training frequency? conditioning? im very wary about getting injured again. thanks for reading :)

I took a 10-day layoff after getting really sick because I skipped my booster this year, thinking I didn’t need it. On top of that, I was battling acid reflux and seasonal allergies. >>

The r^2 value of gaining additional muscle mass on strength gains is 65-80+%.

>How do people lighter than you lift more than you
Come on 3.5tard, you don't seriously need spoonfed this information, do you? I thought you were all knowing about this kind of stuff. There could be a multitude of reasons, I'll list several here - better neural efficiency, better leverages, better proportions, better form, being heavier than someone not being a guarantee of being more muscular than them, so on and so forth. Use your damn brain.

I have done 8 weeks of stronglifts 5x5 as a beginner lifter. Should I transition to evolve AI. No specific trigger for change, just curious how long to do stronglifts since it seems to be regarded as a beginner program (and a lousy one at that from what everyone seems to say).

For a new lifter, I have found stronglifts to be very accessible and have noticed reasonable gains (pants feel tighter).

Squat 5x5 150lbs

>>
>>75563943
You need to eat and you need to follow your program. Actually read it, no 5x5 deadlift. No more thinking, no more being smart and adjusting stuff. Mind off, lift, and eat. You should have plenty of time left on SL or SS.

I was your height and weight when I started (a bit lighter) and you need to be eating nothing to even get that tiny. In my first two months I gained 12 pounds by eating a mere 2500kcal a day. If you're still 135lbs after two months you're probably doing something wrong unless you were severely underweight.
>>
>>75564215
I get that I’m supposed to eat more, but it’s not that simple for me. Between acid reflux, seasonal allergies messing with my appetite, and just naturally being lean, it’s a challenge. I’d rather focus on optimizing my nutrition than just pounding junk food like some people seem to suggest. Also, I’d wager my strength-to-weight ratio is already better than most here. Post body?
>>75564333
Thanks for the advice, but no need to be condescending. I actually read the program, and I added 5x5 deadlift intentionally to strengthen my back. It's not like I’m throwing in curls or something ridiculous.

Also, 2500 calories isn’t that much—I’m not trying to bulk up into some soft, bloated look like I’m guessing some here might be rocking. Pretty confident I could still outlift most, especially considering my body weight. Again, post body if you disagree.
>>
>>75564333
>>75564215
Thanks for the comment.

I actually started this year at 120lbs but over the course of the year I got up to 135 and have largely plateaued. Interestingly, the only way I have consistently gained was by doing GOMAD, but I can only do it maybe a day every week.

What is wrong with 5x5 deadlift? beyond just sucking ass to do it. Is it harmful? When I downloaded the starting strength app it only had 5x1 deadlift but my friend said that was stupid.

>What is wrong with 5x5 deadlift? beyond just sucking ass to do it. Is it harmful?
Not harmful, it's just very taxing because it's a lot of volume and you are already squatting a lot, so it is inefficient for getting strong as a fast as you can. If you can get stronger from less work and time, then it's better to do so. Also, as a novice, you can get much more progress and dial in your technique much easier with very heavy 1x5 deadlifts and learn the most important skill which is how to push hard and lift heavy things. Pushing a 1x5 deadlift in weight is a completely different feeling and skill to 5x5s.
>>
>>75564387
don't do 5x5 DL and especially don't stack it with 5x5 squats
if you squat and DL on the same day, you squat first.
one of those two should be submaximal even at your strength.

SS is retarded in that it cycles bench/OHP for 1.5x frequency, but squat remains at x3 a week. Original SS is 3x5 and not 5x5. keep the x3 frequency on squats but get at least x2 bench, with the day in the middle being ohp and dips or something. you can do chin-ups all 3 days, or on the day you are not doing a barbell row.
>>
>>75564387
>don't know who this schizo imposter is
it's bobby
>>
>>75564436
I understand your perspective, but this might just come down to body type differences. As an ectomorph, I feel like I recover faster than most, and I can handle the volume better probably because I’m leaner and more efficient. I imagine it’s different for someone who’s more of an endomorph, where recovery might be slower due to carrying extra weight. Not everyone needs to train like they’re prepping for a strongman competition.
>>75564438
Thanks for the tips, but this really just sounds like a program tailored for people who store fat easily. As an ectomorph, I don’t feel as drained by higher frequencies or stacking compound lifts it might just be a metabolism thing. Honestly, I’m probably better off sticking to my approach since it’s working for me. Besides, I doubt most here have the lifting efficiency or work capacity I do. Again, post body if you disagree.
>>
>>75564448
The bait is too obvious now.
>>
>>75564438
Chin-ups on all 3 days of SS is way too much if you are actually pushing your deadlifts and not keeping them artificially low.
>>
>>75564387
You don't need a 5x5 deadlift if you will make progress just fine with 1 set of 5 (which you will). The program isn't designed for that much deadlift volume on top of the squatting volume it's already giving you. It's just too much for a beginner lifter whose work capacity is basically zero.

THREADLY, RELEVANT, and HIGH QUALITY REMINDER for you unlifting ANON CHODEs to post body/lifts and get a trip. Tripping is the only way anyone will believe anything you have to say about anything. And only if you demonstrate at least one of the following:
>A squat in excess of both 2.5 times bodyweight AND 500 lbs
>A deadlift in excess of both 2.5 time bodyweight AND 500 lbs
>A bench press in excess of both 1.5 times bodyweight AND 350 lbs
>A LMAO4PLAET or greater row from the ground
>A Log "Press" of at least 240 lbs and 1.15 times bodyweight
>A front squat equal to or greater than LMAO4PLAET and 1.75x bodyweight
>A body that /fit/ won't roundly criticize (good fucking luck)

OFFICIAL, AND CLEARLY ON-TOPIC, /PLG/ RULES (no bitching!):
1.) Do not talk about cutting
2.) Do NOT talk about cutting
3.) An adult male is >190 lbs, and this is an 18+ board
4.) LOLfedders get out
5.) Every fed is a LOLfed
6.) There are no real rules about lifting (except that s*mo is ghey), half-rep all you like
7.) There are no real rules about judging either, enjoy your R E D L I G H T S
8.) You must have vids to prove your lifts
9.) POST LIFTS or GTFO – The choice is yours.
10.) EAT MOAR – It is never enough
11.) Your program is shit, no exceptions
12.) Powerlifting is not a sport.
13.) Pulling s*mo is an admission of fundamental weakness, ontological incompetence, and likely fatherlessness
14.) FIGGY is not a fraud
15.) FIGGY is not a felon
16.) FIGGY IS NOT A JEW
17.) Grow a beard
18.) Phoneposters get The Rope.
19.) Everyone stronger than you is on sterons. Everyone weaker than you isn’t trying hard enough.
20.) Try harder
21.) You must squat >2.67 times bodyweight AND have an unblemished boxing record to bully FIGGY

UPDATED LIST OF PLG APPROVED ACRONYMs (Arcane CipheRs Of Never Yielding Masculinity). Post, but don't spam, in every thread.

>GDE (Genetic Dead End)
Exercise low-responder. High injury rate, no sports background, weak willed.

>OGD (Obese Genetic Dud)
A GDE that tried to cope by getting fat. Did not get stronger. Look at him and laugh.

>SUMO (SUbhuman MOron)
Too stupid and/or genetically deficient to just bend over and pick something up. Copes through a combination of clowning half reps and eating butt.

>UFO (Under Fed Organism)
Adult human male weighing less than 200 lbs. Throw food at them until the problem is remedied.

>VOLEM (Voluntary Evermediate)
Late beginner, early intermediate. Panics when the bar gets heavy. Program hops, works on technique, or sabotages recovery as an excuse to not progress.

>BONER (Bench Only No Effort Retard)
Wants to have the admiration and ego of someone who lifts, but doesn't want to get the squat or deadlift of someone who actually lifts. Copes with a combination of bench press and autism.

>LARPER - Lamely Accessorizing Retard, Performance Essentially Rubbish
Wants to be a powerlifter without actually lifting or trying hard. Buys $800 in clothes and accessories to dress the part. Stuck at a 400 kg total. Widely loathed.

>FAGIT (Freakishly Adept Genetically, Incredible Total)
Strong from birth, never had to work for it. Still works at it, just to ULTRA MOG GDEs even harder. Hated by everyone, but they can't really do anything about it.

>JANITOR (Just ANother Ineffectual Twig, Obviously Retarded)
Complete assclown and permanent virgin.

>TCHAD (Tries Consistently Hard All Day)
The Isleys, MAs, and other guys with average genes who actually like competing and getting stronger.

>TWIT (Third World Idjit Tard)
Smelly unAmerican FOREIGNER who lifts in the futile hopes it will make him matter like AMERICANS matter

Switching between all those trips has you reading posts improperly. He's not saying that time off makes him stronger, he's saying that time off doesn't hurt his strength as much anymore. This makes perfect sense.
>>
>>75564381
>I’d wager my strength-to-weight ratio is already better than most here
I weigh 2.5 times you, and lift weights 4.5 times yours, at 9 inches taller & 3 times your body fat percentage.
(I know you aren't that anon.)
>>
>>75565733
No need to go so low. You have good mobility, you can do without the plates under your heels.
Pushing your hips backwards and forwards at the start and end of each rep is unnecessary. I'm amazed you are able to keep the bar when your hips are forwards, considering you are low-bar squatting. I wouldn't want to risk losing position.
That weight looks light for you. If you follow linear progression, adding weight 3 times per week, I expect that you will naturally correct those two issues.

>unix time code file name
i hope that is you in that video, anon

>>
>>75565733
Either just get squat shoes or squat without the heel. Those plates are infinitely more trouble than they're worth. And like the anon pointed out, you're plenty mobile so a heel is surely unnecessary anyway. (though a squat shoe with a heel might still feet better if it as a broad, flat, rigid sole and a metatarsal strap to keep your feet from "rolling" at all.

What you're doing at the top with your hips can probably be stopped. But once you actually being the rep, the descent and ascent all look fine. You could probably take a wider stance, but that's 90% a personal comfort thing.

How to manage CNS fatigue when powerbuilding? I usually would train 3-4 times a week and focus on comp lifts and a few accessories. However, I'll be getting on a bulk and would like to make most of it and switch to ppl 2x a week as I've understood that frequency is essential for hypertrophy. So how do you usually manage CNS fatigue? Been feeling pretty shit during the cut with bad sleep and tiredness.

Fascinating critique. Care to share your program, the logic underpinning its structure, and your current lifts? I'd genuinely like to understand how you’ve arrived at your assessment of the program. A comparison of methodologies and results would elevate this beyond unsubstantiated commentary.

It sucks that Rippetoe went off the rails when the pandemic happened
It's impossible to defend his training methods when he claimed that it's completely safe to walk around in public unmasked in the middle of a pandemic
>>
>>75570434
his training method sucks (for the most part)
>it's completely safe to walk around in public unmasked in the middle of a pandemic
this is entirely correct

well, to train up the grip until failure while you're at it
>>
>>75571263
Train deadlift to get better at deadlift and train grip to get better at grip. Harming the quality of your deadlift reps is not a god idea.
>>
>>75571263
I had weighted deadhangs to failure at the end of my session. Fatiguing my grip beforehand would be counterproductive.

Wednesday Training
>Bench Press 7@80kg, 7@85kg, 5@90kg, 4@95kg, 2@100kg
>Sumo Deadlift 10@60kg, 3@100kg, 3@120kg, 3@140kg, 1@160kg, 1@170kg, 1@180kg

Holy fuck the temperature, it's 40° C outside and not much better in the gym. My shirt was half soaked before the first working bench set.
Bench PR, previous best was 95kg for 1, done about 1.5 weeks ago. My back wasn't slip and sliding. I guess shirt selction makes a big deal.
First time doing Sumo Deadlift & first time using a belt when lifting. Assuming I can compare it to conventional, it's a big PR. I last pulled 100kg for 10 about 3 weeks ago.
I say sumo because my feet were outside my hands, but... I actually left about 3 inches between my toes and the plates and I'm 6'6", so proportionally, my feet don't even look that wide. So really it was semi-sumo.
Also, this gym has the fattest bumper plates. Can't fit more than 4 on the bar.
