moderately hard, mostly because of snow, but trail is not that long or steep, you get by cable car to decent elevation and than have like 5 miles to the peak

My parents met in a bushwalking (hiking) club, so every fucking holiday growing up was camping with the expectation of walking 20+ km per day. I always found it incredibly boring and unfulfilling. It's a stretch to even call it "nature" when every trail has been carefully designed, built and maintained with heavy machinery.
If I was ever going to get back into that kind of thing it would be through multi-day ultramarathons rather than walking. I just need to build my endurance up, since even a half marathon is a bit of a stretch right now.
>>
>>75585805
>every trail has been carefully designed, built and maintained with heavy machinery
here lies the problem.
i find funny that of all my friends i am the only one that goes offtrail. but of course i am the mountain village guy, while they are hickers
>>
>>75584482
Based, hiking is based but cringe if you ever talk about it or consider it a hobby
>>
>>75584482
H(k)ike plebs need to hear it.
It’s a lot of women, loser men, boomers, and pseudo-bourgeois.
There are no based schizos, scumbags, BVLLs, Chads, or Aristocrats out hiking.

It’s not hard. It’s not a hobby. It’s more like a date activity on a level similar to minigolf.

The curated nature is what destroys it. Wandering the woods and deserts is based. Walking on a used goods trail is cucked.
That’s just the problem. Aryan Men do something and then these apes come along and commercialize it turning it into a daycare for people who lack the resilience of the atavistic wanderer.

we didn't stay long at each one, 3 days in Yosemite was the longest. was there for 15 days total and we crammed in as much as we could, maybe too much. but 2 of those parks were only overnight stays, and 2 were Arches and Canyonlands which are right next to each other.

not much because I'm a southern europoor so I'm never too far from civilization, but spending one night in the woods is actually pretty damn comfy. If you do it in a place filled with bears or mountain lions it might be a different story, but as long as you leave food sealed away it should be fine I think?

I'm actually euro, but jokes aside the average person struggles quite a bit on hikes either because they are city slickers who aren't used to rough terrain (so they look disabled while descending on rocky trails) or because they are unfit and they struggle with elevation gains above 500m.
This isn't to say that hiking is some badass activity of course, but it's quite different from walking to the grocery store and just like lifting it's not a hobby that that many people engage with

>>75584454
Agreed. I live right up to 20 squarekilometers of forests, and practically every single day I walk at least an hour out there.
I can literally feel whatever stress I have melt away once I'm 50 meters in.

they are maintained for the 4x4 cars, at least where i am. the person wide trails are not maintained at all, maybe adding some post to mark the router or in places where there is lots of vegetation cleaning the most fucked up places

Hiking is the best. I took for granted all the years I hiked sometimes multiple trips a week. Now I’m married and have kids live in a boring place and I can basically never hike.

Hiking is GOATed for these reason:

-truly absorbing nature. Most unpopular trials and even many popular ones weren’t made through heavy machinery just a hoe and maintained by other’s feet. Enjoy the nature for miles. And it’s pretty serious in wild environments devoid of people, you can actually get lost even on somewhat marked trails.
-enough cardio for the week
-leg gains when bulking
-fresh air
-only time with you and your own thoughts
-appreciation of simple things, and nature of course
-not actually easy, unless you’ve never hiked 10+ miles in 99% humidity east coast summer weather or completed a west coast 14er we’ll before noon.

Hiking haters are just copers. And yeah even I think climbing is a bit extreme/weird

The best hiking IMHO is short difficult hikes. My legs are sore from doing one Sunday. In Phoenix AZ
>Piestewa Peak
and
>Camelback Mountain
both climb ~1200ft over 1.2mi. Camelback (Echo Canyon side) is harder, slightly shorter with more elevation gain.

25-30 minutes that completely kick your ass. Walk down slow, the work is over.
