Have any of you experience benching with a fat bar? I'm currently doing it, I have history of shoulders popping etc so I think I feel more confident grabbing and squeezing this bar than the normal one. Babby weights atm and a close enough grip that you can call it a close grip bench instead of normal. One actual workset per session too to not overshoot it because again, shoulder problems history.
>>
Also I have no problem believing I can eventually bench more than ever personally with this bar, it's just I have to be patient and never get greedy with the volume. Another good thing is anything I do fort triceps with other movements directly helps with benching.
>>
>>75610746
It doesn't make that much of a difference but I like how it feels.
>>
>>75610746
Why not take the time to fix your shoulders instead of blaming a regular barbell?
>>
>>75610746
Is the "fat bar" some 1-3/4" or 2" schedule 40 or 80 black steel pipe?
>>
>>75610765
I'm over 30 and my shoulders keep getting better as I age (I have on/off lifted since teens). It's just that they simply can't handle any serious horizontal pressing or side delt volume. Doing overhead pressing movements I can handle moderate amount of volume and when I do them full range, they actually help a ton with mobility and support muscles.

>>75610772
I haven't measured it. Iirc it's fat enough that my thumb doesn't touch the fingers when grabbing it and my hands are not that small either. I have weighted it and it weights a bit more than the normal barbell but I just add the plates normally and don't think much of it even tho I can feel a bit better knowing it weighs more actually.

>>75610756
Yeah the feel is important but I guess there's some science behind the claw being open and how much you can squeeze the bar and more safely too I presume.

Just benched with fat grips, feels awesome, actually get a bit more ROM out of it too. I've heard of people healing injuries from it. Don't use fat bar long term or you'll lose strength at the very bottom since it's like not fully lowering a normal bar
>>
>>75611191
I have pretty long arms so I'm not worried if the bar stops at 1cm higher than normally and don't plan to compete or return to normal barbell.. So you said you use fat grips, are they like grips you attach to the bar?
>>
>>75611210
All right fair, just letting you know. If you Google Fat Gripz you'll see, they're quite good things actually, very versatile
>>
>>75610772
the fat bar is what hangs between the legs of the gym buck (op really likes gripping and squeezing bbc)
>>
>>75611191
The crook of your hand would still be perfectly in line with the top of your chest it can't make a difference to range of motion this is all pseudoscience nonsense
>>
>>75611191
>>75611274
Yeah if the bar is uniform whether it's normal or fat all the way, you lower the bar just as much to the chest. If you add fat gripz, then the bar has a dip in the middle and goes a bit lower actually. If you added a fat grip in middle of the bar, the rom would be less. Imagine the differences if you added huge grips to hands, you would have to lower it a lot more, or a big grip in the middle where chest touches, much lesser rom. But if the bar is just as thick all the way it can be as big as you want as long as you grip at the bottom. So just using an all around fat bar wouldn't make rom any less.
>>
>>75611274
It does, the thickness of the fat grip is the extra rom, hand is placed slightly higher yet the bar is same thickness
>>
>>75611223
What are exactly the benefits of fat grips? I thought they were kind of a meme.
>>
>>75611358
well it's mostly to train forearms but they can reduce injury in pressing. Fat grip bicep curls are pretty good same with farmers walks
>>
I got given my fat grips, I wouldn't have bought them, that was like 5 years ago and I still use them pretty often. They do make the lift harder too somehow, like tricep press downs work the tricep more if they're on, it's a little like adding instability to a lift
>>
>>75611358
I haven't yet tried them with movements which really require grip strength, but there's a hypothesis that it's better for your shoulder and probably wrists too if you get to keep your hand more open. I guess it requires some extra effort to press with a fatter bar at the beginning.
>>
I miss doing pullups on the fat bar
>>
>>75611445
>>75611462
I see. Well, might get a pair and try for myself.
>>
>>75611445
>>75611462
Forgot to ask, any starting width I should get? I'm assuming something in the middle.
>>
>>75611484
I have the normal blue ones and they're good although I have stubby hands
>>
>>75611484
I presume it depends on how big your hands are too but probably middle rather than the fattest you can find. My fat bar is in the gym so I can't measure it right now. There happened to be one so I don't have to use fat grips.

I made a trapeze with a 1-1/2" square wooden bar with rounded corners, it's really ergonomic to use.

>paracord
how good is that knot? I've always found it impossible to make anything stick with that stuff.
>>
>>75611820
it works well enough triple-knotted. it's Everbilt Diamond Braid Polypropylene Rope, rated to 310lbs so theoretically about a one-ton working load for six strands of it.
>>
>>75611805
round those edges or you get nasty calluses that end up tearing

>>75610746
any sodomite that was in the military and arose to e-celeb status is 100% bought and paid for actor, glowing spook and actor, his job is to fuck u up, that includes trained ontime alan thraal, yet another fake natty lol >>75610746
>shoulder problems history
no, u have
> i fell for pressing meme history
idiot
>>
>>75612707
Thrall might be natty because he hit a certain point pretty early and then basically stayed there
>>
>>75612707
You sound pretty upset. Also you seriously imply Thrall is a roid monkey considering he barely has any notable muscle or strength/power other than his hip-thigh area is pretty advanced.
>>
>>75612718
same could be said for athlean/curleanX lol
>>75612895
like i said bitch bot gpt
> has quads the size of watermelons in highschol just rooning
> shills retarded barbell movements
> shills retarded strogman activities
> "ex" military
> exposure for over a decade in socials
spook, an actor, and fake natty

besides, nobody that isn't bought and paid for isn't getting any promotion in this place

regarding sodomite op:
>>75610746
>benching with a fat bar?
it's a press, it's retarded EOT, u heel shoulder by stopping retarded pressing and building big and strong long head of bicepsin the plane in which muscle fivers and tendons aren't twisted:
>>75609761
>biceps and forearms:
>>75605303
>>75605689
and getting back your spinal and scapular mobility, u're not gonna grease the groove by trying to strip long head biceps tendon OUT of it's anatomical groove lol
>You upset
not at all bot gpt
>throllolol is weak upper body
cause he ain't complete imbecile and knows trying hard with retardo barbell shit will only fuck u up
>he barely has any notable muscle
cause he is a dumb ass that knows fuckall about anatomy and how body really functions, besides - it's his shtick as fake natty, and actor and glowin nigger spook :D
>>
>>75613119
>u heel
heal, whatever, nobody reads that right bot? nobody has ever seen what i have written here, u can't get to this sodomite site through any vpn after all

He seemed natty because his physique wasn’t very impressive and he looked like somebody who should be strong. So it seemed like if he was on gear his numbers should be better. But pic related is not natty. Maybe he got on late
>>
>>75613171
>if he was on gear his numbers should be better.
liar liar pants on fire, he was always on gear, he showed his highschool pictures with watermelon quads from rooning - this much watery bloat does not happen naturally, skinny kid with 2 basketball sized quads from rooning xD aha :D

and never trust anyone that was in gumbit structures, especially military, his numbers might be way higher than he says
>>
>>75613171
>But pic related is not natty. Maybe he got on late
He's been training for 20+ years and looks the part. Roiders have that "look" to them, and Thrall doesn't. To claim he's not natty is fucking retarded
>>
>>75613119
I often go a year without bench pressing once so in a way I have already given up on pressing and sometimes I return to try what it feels like, so far okay by using babby weight and fatbar and not overshooting the volume so one set to near failure per session (every other full body session) and then some extra tricep work which helps with pressing. I had to deal with never being able to bench press shit early on and it wasn't easy to do so.

Overhead pressing (I do it with dumbbells usually) is way better because it actually opens and extends the ribcage, compared if you just bench bench bench then you usually get real tight pecs. Also you won't develop the full tricep muscle if you only push horizontal or downwards and not overhead position.

I mean he's about to turn 40 I guess so it's not far-fetched he will start using trt at some point especially since it's not that much of a taboo in the usa compared to some other countries.
>>
>>75614153
>it's not far-fetched he will start using trt at some point
I don't think so. His entire thing is being a natty powerlifter.

I listened to his 3/3 Q&A videos about owning a gym and the guy has some serious business and life ethics. Inb4 he just lies about every single thing, it's always a possibility but I doubt it. If his stories are true it's like he's almost too good of a person to have any success because he didn't know what to charge his customers so he doesn't appear too greedy but he still made it.
