Nicotine is based but cigarettes are the shittiest form of it. Smoke cigars, pipes, take snuff or snus, hell even dip (fucking gross though). All much better options with (generally) much higher quality tobacco and better for your cardio since you're not inhaling hot smoke into your lungs.

exactly. tobacco smoke in itself is not uniquely harmful compared to wood fire smoke. if in moderation with breaks once in a while like you said it's well within the capability of lungs to recover: people accounted for in scare statistics are cattle tier full blown retards who smoke half a pack and more per day.
but still, i lost my sense of immortality pretty recently, so i'm minimizing health risks. not had a smoke since new year. miss it but no strong cravings. i mostly smoked for the taste (believe it or not), so i'm getting nice cigars/cigarillos on my next paycheck.
