Pretty good for a 55 year old man.

Yes. Because a 55yo man needs to deadlift 635lbs. An old man should be trying to be fit and healthy instead of a hunchback at 65

6. Moving a TV stand
7. Moving a TV
8. You're doing home renovations and you need to pick up a box of tile
9. Picking up a carpet
10. Picking up linoleum or some other flooring

>Doesn't come with a perfectly balanced handle
Sure, but that honestly doesn't really matter. It still prepares your musculature, joints, and bones for picking something heavy off the floor. The fact that it's so balanced is what allows you to progress them so well and get stronger easily.

Don't egolift. Use babby weights, use perfect form, don't go full retard with lower body barbell movements.

>>75729607
Be honest with yourself. How many people do you know who have squat and deadlifted that don't have some degree of lower back injury?
>>
>>75730324
Everyone I know with a back injury from the gym blames it on squatting and/or deadlifting. I've never once heard a guy say that a 1 mile jog broke his back
>>
>>75730324
Injuries happen, you can rehab them. I rehabbed my back when I hurt it back when I didn't know what I was doing and snapped my shit. Doesn't mean that they're guaranteed to fuck your back, I haven't had a back injury since. Besides, people can herniate discs by sneezing, saying squats and deads are inherently injurious when they're movements your body is designed to do is dishonest. Whenever you sit, you're squatting. Whenever you pick something off the ground, you're deadlifting. Loading these movements in a progressive and controlled manner is one of the best ways to build up your body.
>>
>>75730324
>>75730333
I don't cavort with morons so I've never heard of it. If you're stupid you shouldn't squat or deadlift
>>
>>75729055
Strength is literally the best longevity tool
Retards should be in homes with controlled internet access, not posting here thinking their opinions are actually legitimate
>>
>>75730344
>Yeah I hurt myself but it wasn't the lifts fault, I was just being dumb
Yeah. You were stupid for doing the lift in the first place.

Your body is designed to do things unweighted. That's like overloading the weight capacity for a hydraulic lift. Yeah it "can" lift it. It's designed to lift it. But you blew the cylinders because you overloaded it. Your body is the same way. You were meant to move a very small amount of weight. 200lbs at most. Anything else is overexertion on your body and will eventually break it.
>>
>>75730378
It literally wasn't the lift's fault. Nobody taught me about bracing when I first started lifting. The fact is I haven't had a back issue that wasn't a pulled muscle for almost 9 years, since my initial injury.

>Blew the cylinders because you overloaded it
Hydraulics do not have the ability to rebuild and adapt over time to stress, poor analogy. Your body can adapt to the stresses you place on it, so long as they're gradual enough.

>200 lbs max, eventually break it
That's hilarious, you should be a comedian
>>
>>75730392
>Your body can adapt to the stresses you place on it, so long as they're gradual enough.
Yeah your body also wants to drop excess muscle and return to its natural state of hunter gatherer. But you don't think that's right huh
>>
>>75730443
Sure, it wants to do that but that doesn't mean that putting on muscle is bad, especially through efficient movements like squats and deadlifts. Are you gonna say what your body wants is correct now? Because most bodies appear to want to be morbidly obese due to the easy availability of highly palatable and high calorie foods. Just because your body "wants" to do something doesn't make it right or even logical.

Causing your body to be fat by eating unhealthy high calorie foods is the same thing as causing your body to put on unnecessary muscle that strains your skeletal and cardiovascular systems by over exercising. Just because it's more acceptable to be a musclehead doesn't mean it's healthy, afterall you can be jacked and overweight BMI. That doesn't make BMI wrong, it makes excessive muscle unhealthy.

Ronnie Coleman is the perfect example of how lifting excessively heavy is not healthy and makes you prone to injury.

Here's an anon on /fit/ being "very healthy" totally no risk here

It's not the same thing, not even close. Once again, having large amounts of muscle gained in a natural manner is not going to be nearly as detrimental to your health as you claim it is. The more muscle you can maintain as you age the better your quality of life will be.

>Strain your skeletal system
You mean make it stronger? Fun fact, this is one example of strength training being beneficial. https://www.instagram.com/reel/ClDIhdwg6bw/?igsh=MW9obDZvNWdoaWpwYw== Dude has a bone density of over 5 standard deviations over normal from his age group. You think he's more or less likely to have a life altering fall as a result of his increased bone density?

>Ronnie Coleman and bringback/smg/
>Using a roider that pushed past multiple injuries without attempting to rehab and a competitive strongman as reasons having more muscle is bad
Lmao, surely you understand why these are poor examples for why strength training for the general population is bad.

You'd think powershitters with grip that can hold onto 200kg could never drop anything weighing less than 10kg lol
>>
>>75730617
>That doesn't make BMI wrong, it makes excessive muscle unhealthy.
It's not the same as being obese. Visceral fat causes chronic high blood pressure and insulin resistance. Tons of muscle doesn't, and exercise reduces chronic high blood pressure and insulin resistance.
>>
>>75731124
too bad, every powershitter is obese in the classical sense, mainly due to low IQ and buying into retarded bulking and cutting fad, but even then, you'd think that at least one could have bodybuilder physique, low bodyfat, and ability to powershit, but apparently you cannot deadlift your own mother unless you look exactly like her, fatass

Do you even take 1 second to do proper research? Weight classes exist in the sport. Here is a 66 kg lifter, doesn't look obese to me in the slightest.

okay so now we have proof that powershitters are retarded and just make excuses so they can stuff their mouths with food, concession accepted, I hope you do look like him and aren't obese yourself, yea?
>>
>>75731222
What are you even talking about? Powerlifters fit into weight classes. If they're obese with shit lifts then they're a shit powerlifter. If they're an actually competent powerlifter they usually will not be fat unless they're fairly tall. But 83 and 93 kg bw are the most populated weight classes by far, and neither of those require you to be obese to fit into them.
>>
>>75731229
I don't know why powerlifters don't list their height. There should also be height classes. If you're tall as fuck, weight class doesn't matter any more. You just focus on adding as much mass (muscle, but fat doesn't matter) as possible.
>>
>>75731237
Because weight classes are effectively height classes dummy.

Ironically the only time I pulled something in my back was when I was doing curls with baby weights lol.
>>
>>75730344
Your body is not "designed" to do a squat or deadlift with a loaded barbell for resistance. These are optimized movements with artificial loads created to produce a large amount of resistance across a plane of movement that your body has skeletal muscles to push against. Taking that load and increasing it to just under what is mechanically possible for your morphology isn't training; it's performance. Why are you performing? Who and what are you doing it for? To get stronger?
Be honest with yourself.
>>
>>75730344
>>75730344
No, injuries don't just "happen." You get them from doing things. Most people in the gym are training like RETARDS, and incur debilitating injuries while partaking in what they call "strength and conditioning."
If you're risking serious injury, what exactly are you conditioning? Your mind to be accepting of your body falling apart? The whole point of training is to make you less injury-prone, not to incur them. For that reason alone most people should be banned from using gymnasiums.
>>
>>75734244
>Shifting goal posts
I'm not talking about maxing being good for you. It comes with risks that you shouldn't take if you're fairly old. But what I am arguing for is progressively overloaded movement being good for you, because it is.

>>75734252
Lifting weights has an incredibly low injury rate, lower than basically any sport. And a lot of the times, people get injured from plain old bad luck. But to imply that lifting weights doesn't make you less injury prone is also hilarious, see >>75730655

>People train like retards
That's their fault for not doing proper research or learning how to brace and lift properly, not the fault of a given movement like squats or deadlifts.
>>
>shifting goalposts
>people who get injured doing x just need to git gud!
>>
>>75734477
Why don't you reply to my comment like a man? You're basically like a child staring at the ground mumbling, scared to look me in the eye.
>>
>>75734477
The dosage makes the poison, if you never did a Jefferson curl for example, would you load 5 plates on the barbell and give it a go? Or would you slowly build up from nothing while recording yourself and checking your form constantly, potentially working on mobility as needed? Same thing applies to squat and deadlifts. It's like that green text where that retard tried putting his bodyweight on the bar while squatting with sandals for the first time ever. You have to dose the movement with the appropriate stimulus for you.

>>75734497
Lel, but you're still weird for larping as me
>>
>>75734513
My point is that gymgoers without fail end up injuring themselves "training" given a long enough time horizon. It's not a question of git gud. If 95% of gunowners in America at some point shot themselves in a negligent discharge, while I wouldn't go on blaming the inanimate guns themselves, don't you think it would bring in to question the purpose and utility of all these people owning guns if all they do is shoot themselves with it? This is exactly what is happening with gymgoers right now.
>>
>>75734659
While you could make the same argument for sports and physical recreation, those are the purposes for training to begin with. Nobody says
>man I want to get in to shape so that I can squat 3 plates in the gym!
They say
>So you're telling me if I squat 3 plates in the gym I'll be x% better at so forth as a football player? Guess I'll incorporate it in my TRAINING
>>
>>75734659
That can happen with any physical activity including walking. Human bodies aren't perfect.

Injuries happens regardless of what you do with your life you stupid faggot, ERs around the world being full of snapped up people, vanishingly few who did so in a gym, is a testament to that fact.
The incidences of injury per 1000hrs is exceptionally low in both weightlifting and powersharting when compared to the vast majority of other sports, INCLUDING non-contact sports like tennis.
