I think a lot of the confusion here is the difference between water in the muscle (ie glycogen) and and water elsewhere (ie subcutaneous or visceral). All anabolics are going to cause varying degrees of increased glycogen retention which is what gives the initial boost in bodyweight as well as the “look” of being on roids. This is also why when you come off you immediately lose a bunch if weight and deflate, you’re not losing gains you just didn’t put on as much muscle as it looked like. When guys talk about water retention they mean the other type which is largely influenced by estrogen and sodium (which is also related to estrogen but I don’t want to get into that here). So dry compounds at least avoid this kind of water retention and at best (ie tren) shed a bunch of water and give you a huge boost to glycogen retention making you look shredded and boosting weight a few pounds. If you want to test this, drop the tren for a week and not only will you lose that extra pound, you’ll likely lose the amount that you would expect from your cut. Mist scientists whi study this kind of stuff are fucking stupid and ignore this phenomenon which is why there’s so much bullshit about how you can take test, not work out and put on more muscle than a natty lifting five tines a week. That said, this is known and testable and is described extensively in the literature if you look a little. It is also self-evident to basically anyone who has done a few cycles and experienced gaining/losing 5-15 pounds overnight on dry compounds. There’s just no physiological way to put on muscle at that rate.
