How the FUCK do you avoid working traps with this exercise? It feels almost inevitable

It's easy for the traps to overwhelm the rest of the upper back. Huge traps throw your physique out of balance. Big traps are good but huge traps are a bad thing. The traps also grow very easily so you have to be careful not to give them too much work

It requires exponential work to get exponential results.
The rear delts by their nature cannot overcompensate the traps, the traps will activate at a specific weight and when they do they will grow very quickly. Which with every other workout they activate on, which is most. Just compounds the posture issues of having large traps.

Traps are one of the largest issues in cervical dysfunction of the neck, shoulder impingement, and nearly every other issue involving a very delicate system that influences almost half your body.

I switched away from dumbell lateral raises/flies to chad cable raises and my rear delts grew massively. Keep the weight really low and MOVE YOUR ARM AROUND while feeling your delts with your other hand, until you feel an angle that most hardens/uses your rear delt. Then do that movement, but while holding a cable.

I use incline bench to support my chest, helps me focus entirely on lat engagement.
You can also use the reverse fly machine and go to a max of like 40° (basically stop the moment you feel your scapula begin to retract)

Using a traps is a matter of mechanics, not necessarily weight. You have to retract the scapula in order to generate the motion hence using the traps is unavoidable.

Not ineffective. It's possible to train two or more muscle groups at the same time. If you had knowledge of kinesiology you would know this. I.e. barbell curls train both the biceps, the brachialis, and the pronator teres at the same time. With only a couple exceptions, there are is no such thing as an exercise that exclusively trains specific muscle groups nor can you really set up an exercise to do so. The vast majority of motions use more than one muscle group to generate the motion.

Oh and turn into the fly so it hits the rear delt, if you do it leaned over the other way it's simply gravity has the traps as the antagonist. Also pimp slap que seems to work trying to out torque into it.
