>Who is /fat/ for?
For Marbled Mammoths, working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Its a blanket generalization. Like saying eating less maks s you lose weight. Its an arbitrary truth but nondescriptive. It depends on your height/weight/walking speed etc.

General rule is just move more, do as much walking as you can.

Some dry skin, but I'm unsure how much is normal. Hair loss too, but I've always shed a ton of hair even as a teenager.

Also, when I take ALCAR (acetyl-l-carnitine) I get a globus sensation. ALCAR can supposedly negatively affect the hormone from the thyroid. That's what initially made me think about it, because it didn't sound normal.

140 days left until I am officially no longer fat.
Max weight: 315 lb
Current weight: 222
Current goal: 180

As I shed the weight, I am also wrestling to shed my mental illness, anger, and despair. It is advised that one should not hope for success, since you will also fear failure. But I think a little hoping is good for motivation if you have the strength to conquer fear. So I hope that I can be a normal attractive person one day.

I just want to have a conversation with some life long fatties here. I have been as high as 350lbs and as low as 198lbs in my adult life at 6'1. I grew up very overweight and probably didn't appreciate how much I actually consumed until I became an adult. I guess what makes it hard for me the "food noise" is what I've heard it described as. Its just constantly thinking about food in one way or another. I don't know what it is but there always needs to be something happening in terms of hand-to-mouth action. I can't even get interested in something, like a video game or a book to get my mind out of that place. I seem to always default to checking the time to see if I can eat or worrying about calories, or doing the numbers if I can eat this or that. Its honestly so tiresome and my wish in this life is to not think about food. It is an anxiety and compulsion that I cannot abstain from. Perhaps its a matter of will power, perhaps its something diagnosed. I am just grateful that I have the control over it to lose weight when I want to. Does everyone have this shitty relationship with food or is it just me?
>>
>>76601156
Maybe try chewing gum? Take the gum out of your mouth for 1 hour after 2 hours of chewing. Then gradually increase the time when it is out of your mouth. That way you'll build up tolerance to having nothing in your mouth.
>>
>>76601156
I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that the type of food you eat 100% dictates how my brain thinks about food. If I only eat "boring", healthy food (I say boring but its quite delicious once your brain re-calibrates) like salads, chicken + veg, turkey chili, etc, I stop having impulses related to always needing something to put into my mouth. I'm not the schizo keto/carb dude, but I will say that eating simple carbs tends to immediately make me think about and want snack/eat constantly. If I don't eat simple carbs (no chips, cookies, desserts, etc), then I'm good. If I eat a cookie or 2, or a small bag of chips, then I'm struggling against thinking about food for the next few days-week. Its weird.
I suggest trying some fasting as well. It helped reset my brain-food connecting. Started with 16/8 (skip breakfast, only eat between 12-8pm), and that helped immensely. Fasting is like a muscle; at first its hard, then it becomes second nature. Now I can't eat breakfast, my stomach feels weird if I try.
Going one meal a day (OMAD) help the most, but 16/8 was where I saw some real change in my relationship with food.
Also, not sure your fitness, but working out can recouple your brain/food/fuel connection, so that you start craving only what fuels you, rather than just eating for pleasure.
>>
>>76601171
I appreciate the response. My diet is pretty good. I don't do carbs at all. I do fasting loosely now, give or take an hour here or there depending on my schedule. My diet is mostly greens, meats, eggs, frozen berries and protein powder. My fitness is pretty good honestly. I did a half-marathon not long ago, regular 10ks and lift inconsistently. I think I just haven't tried for a long time and getting it back is just building that willpower muscle more than anything. Hoping to get down from 240lbs to 180lbs this time.

Food is my fallback when I'm bored, and occasionally I'll be distracted by something and losing weight becomes simple. When I got addicted to FFXI instead of food suddenly I was think about HNM TODs, Skillchains, Party compositions, leveling strategies ect and it was all I'd think about morning to night, and then I quit. I was 50lbs lighter than when I started but once FFXI was out of my life I ballooned back up because I didn't have something to obsess over and food filled the gap. Even once I stated taking my diet seriously and started tracking all my food I noticed certain activities invite food, I just pair them together in my mind, I started watching TV shows with my family and I naturally take that as an opportunity to snack, doesn't matter what it is, its just when I'm sitting in front of a TV watching something I want to also be shoving something in my face, my hack there was to just flavor some crushed ice with some zero calorie flavors but it was still a struggle not to reach for some more caloric snacks. So I stopped doing that and chose a diferent hobby, got back into model building, and like with FFXI my thoughts were now occupied with nipping parts out of runners, sanding down nubs, snapping kits together, priming, painting, posing, making dioramas, having multiple projects in various stages that I ping-pong between, and suddenly weight loss is simple again, lost like 60lbs. My problem is this enthusiasm is often shortlived, I'll live, breath, and sleep something for a few months ignoring everything else, burnout on it, and then I'm back to shoving my face with food as a way to deal with my boredom, I just want that stimulation.

I've incorporated running/walking and weight lifting into my regular routine since coming here though, and so far I haven't skipped out on that. Its given me more structure to my day, wake up, morning run, rehyrdate/rest, lift, hobby time, meal time, sleep, repeat. If you're anything like me its likely just boredom.
>>
>>76601403
I have tried doing deficits from 500-1000 calories multiple times now and not only is it torture, but you never see any results. I've given up with this deficit bullshit and just resorted to fasting two days a week, I can control my eating the other days but I cannot do deficits.
I would rather torture myself two days a week and see results instead of torture myself the entire week and not see shit.

>>
>>76601430
I did steady state cardio on a home bike for 40mins every day, nothing too high intensity... I don't get it. I did everything I was supposed to do, didnt eat 3 hours before bed, took my 150g protein every day, low fats, medium carbs....I just. Don't know wtf to do anymore. Could it be because of the weight training that the scale didnt move? I am taking creatine every day too, i'm trying to keep muscle while i lose fat.
>>
>>76601424
No, but I've done benders on zachtronics games, dwarf fort, souls, civ, paradox grand strategies, various RL games like Angband, Infra Arcana, and CDDA and like with the others I get really enthusiastic about it for a few weeks/months to the exclusion of everything else, where I don't even bother to eat some days because I'm too addicted to stop, then my interest invariably wanes and I'm back to shoving my face when I'm bored. So yeah I've been there, you look at the clock expecting it to be 9pm "wow its 3am already!?" and you just jump in bed without eating.
>>
>>76601430
wouldn't these burn 100% fat if you're on keto
>>
>>76601438
this is an easy fix:
stop all activity besides walking/slow steady stuff
you need to feel your heart pumping and sweating
do only that, also only eat one meal a day at night, low fat
dont drink coffee/tea, this raises cortisol and this is what raises insulin aswell
you basically need to stop eating and do more BUT LOW STRESS ALL THE TIME
drink alot of vitamin c as often as possible to mitigate all the sympoms that come with fasting
one meal a day at night
>>
>>76601430
So what happens if you just keep burning carbs?
Does that not also burn fat as you body converts one to the other?
Is it not ultimately the caloric deficit that matters more than what type of fuel is being burned during the activity?

Lets say I burn 300kcal by walking, yeah its at a ratio of 80% fat burned but it takes 46 minutes, where as if I jogged it'd only take 17 minutes.
>>
>>76601449
no, the higher the intensity your body uses carbs
the lower the intensity, the more fat gets burned

>>76601455
you always use a ratio of carbs and fat
yes you need to be in a calorie defecit to bun fat as quick as possible
thats why fasting or one meal a day at night, low or better no fat, and alot of low stress low intensity training
this will get your shredded, no plateus possible
im doing this rn and already lost 10kg in one month
no muscle loss either
>>
>>76601461
if you're in ketosis you have no carbs
>>
>>76601452

>shilling a low fat diet

>>
>>76601471
you always have carbs aka blood sugar
either by fat oxidation where adrenalin cuts the fatty acids and then uses the glycerin and converts it into carbs
or cortisol raises and turns aminoacids aka muscle into glucose aswell

>>76601478
heavy breathing is to much
go on a treadmill, walk at a 3.2mph pace, this is what the intensity needs to be like
do that as long as possible as often as possible day by day
you will melt so fast
do that fasted aswell

>>76601482
stop eating anything with fat in it
if you want to pig out eat lean meant and carbs
>>

Thanks, I do that very occasionally, but overall it's easier to just cut it out. If I have one on the morning, I want another one after lunch and then it goes south from there. At least that's how it usually went in the past when I tried moderation.

Bros, help me figure out if im doing things right because the scale is fucking with me this past week.
>183cm tall, 118kg
>3x weight training a week, full body workout with dumbells+bench at home
>40mins of cardio on stationary bike every day
>eating 1700 calories a day, 140-150g protein
>track every single thing i eat and drink on cronometer, weighing everything on a digital scale
>eating mostly home cooked meals of lean protein and good carbs
>5g creatine, multivitamin, omega3 supplements
>dont eat 3 hours before bed
>getting at least 7 hours of sleep daily
>scale wont move

>>
Food eaten today
>1 wrap
>1 Bagel
>3 Pork sausages
>3 Bacon Rashers

there is NO way im gaining muscle THAT fast, to off-set any fat loss on the scale...the only thing i can think of is water retention from creatine, but surely im coping about that.

I can now actually discern layers, rolls and folds when I sit down instead of a singular massive blob of blubber. Progress? Progress. And there's an actual visible gap between my arms and my sides now. Feels good.
I've still got a lot of fat to lose though. And that's just the subcutaneous one, I'm pretty sure I'm quite literally full of visceral fat.
However, I am now coming to realise that underneath the mountain of lard I am but a mere twig. I've gotta sign up to the gym ASAP.
>>76601822

If you keep a deficit you will lose fat, who cares if you're holding onto some water
>>
>>76601921
nta (i'm >>76601928) but the inflammation caused by exercise is not the same "bad" inflammation caused by stress for example (there is some overlap but it's complicated)
>>

Yeah, I just stress too much about wasting time doing things wrong whenever this happens, I do track progress by using a tape measure too, but thats more of a every 2-4 weeks thing, im autistically obsessing about losing it asap and not wasting time, i should really trust the process, i would bet my life im measuring and tracking everything 100%, so i should be in a deficit, should just trust the process and keep going without worrying about the faggot-ass scale.

It's just delusions and retardation. It's simply about calories always has been always will be. You can sleep like shit, over train, elevate your cortisol etc etc etc you will lose weight when in a negative calorie balance

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10807962/

Took a bunch of guys gave them 4 hours of sleep, 16 hours a day of pack work (rucking) and barely any food and guess what? They all ended up at like 5 percent bodyfat. i cut off potato chips entirely for 5 months now but i'm not losing weight at all.
and no i'm not gaining muscle. i finished my newbie gains a long time ago and can't carry more weight. i'm not lifting but just doing commando pull ups to somewhat keep my gains. i can do 5 @210lbs 5'6".
i've been trying to eat less carbs but it seems i'm not actually eating less since i'm not losing weight.
i can't cope with hunger. i try not eating for a whole day but i can't sleep at night and end up eating like 7 eggs with bread because i can't stomach eggs without bread anymore since my last weight loss 10 years ago.
tldr;
i'm extremely mad that cutting off chips didn't result in weight loss.
it seems i'll have to return to the bird of gains only diet. are chilli sauces with vinegar calorie heavy?

They aren't. That's why you couldn't post your abs rn if asked to. They are made in the gym and revealed in the kitchen. Dogshit harmful advice from steroid users. You have to have abs to show them. If you never train abs you probably will never get low enough BF for them to show because you'd have to be at such a low weight chronically living on less than 2k calories losing muscle everywhere else. Skinny people don't have abs. Fit people do

Smoke weed for a week or two then just quit, the lack of appetite is crazy, and lasts a week or two, then you just repeat the process. Overcome the muchies when smoking (or stock up on baby carrots or celery if you must) and you found a natural form of ozempic when you take the 2 week break, plus it allows your tolerance to go down allowing you to enjoy the weed.

I haven't considered them. I did look into growing your own, but you needed like wet hay and to water the bucket daily, which seemed like a lot of work. You also needed a dark room with enough humidity, and I don't want any mold in my relatively small flat.
Might look into some though, good idea.
I do go foraging for chantarelles, which is very economical, but it's highly seasonal and they're the only fungi I'm not scared to forage, fungi foraging scares me otherwise.

Salt is fine, with some caveats.
Original studies looking into salt saw it being bad if you ate too much. That's where a lot of caution comes from in modern day.
Subsequent follow up studies show that moderate-high salt intake is not nearly as bad as originally thought, and that you definitely need some amount of it to function properly; too little is just as bad as too much, and the goldilocks zone of salt extends pretty high on the high end.
That said, way too much salt chronically can be bad for you, but generally you have to already be eating pretty unhealthy foods (e.g., ultraprocessed) to hit those levels.

As a note, high BP can be alleviated through low salt intake (DASH diet). The source of high BP can vary, but the DASH diet is fairly good at helping lower BP. It caps sodium at 2300 mg (which is still a fairly decent amount), although 1500mg shows better results.

>>76602481
>Yeah but most of it is a discussion, I don't think there should be a limit in how much a person is allowed to discuss here
Fair point, I just want a way to not have to see it
>Spamming would be posting, the same thing over and over without any change
I mean... that's what he does. The "discussion" is circular and the same thing over and over again. It's been the same thing over and over again for at least 4 years now.

In the meantime I lost all my weight, got fat again, got depression, got it fixed, came back here and now I'm about halfway done with my weightloss again (hopefully a bit more sustainably this time). And this fucker is still doing it. This isn't a case of "he's arguing a bit too much" this is a case of someone posting all day, every day, for years. And yet, not saying more than he did 4 years ago.
I guess too lax moderation and a sperg shitting up the thread is better than too harsh moderation in the end, but it's still a pain to deal with.
I wish him all the best in the end, he's clearly got some sort of mental issues, no healthy person would behave that way. There's no malice on my part, I just wish I didn't have to see it. It's a bit like when you see an old friend who you haven't had contact with in years because he became a druggie. It makes you a bit sad to see and yet you know you can't change it.

You will always have abs they are integral to your anatomy, they might be pathetically small though depending on how much work they have or rather not have to do
>>
>>76602940
If you said this about any other muscle people would laugh in your face.
>Why train biceps, with enough body fat loss you would still have them eventually!!11
>Why train legs
>Why train delts
If you want to develop a muscle, train it. The main power lifts already do some, but if you want abs... why not just target them a little?

Good morning /fat/, I'm back under 100kg fuuck yeah.
Gonna be a nice weigh-in for the fatty contest this week I think. Fasting going strong. Tried doing RDLs after months of not doing em, ended up with my heaviest RDL set yet so I'm pretty happy that fasting is not using too muscle and I'm fine with the slight amount I might lose.

Also /fat/, If a woman is looking into your eyes at a bar it means you better get the fuck away from there before she starts shit with you, right? Right? I think se was the first woman to ever show any sort of interest in me in at least 10 years that I have noticed. Not that I did anything since I'm a pussy, but its nice to know someone at least somewhat likes my looks (I probably just imagined the whole thing tho).

Sleep plays a crucial role in hormone production, influencing various hormones that affect growth, repair, appetite control, stress management, and overall balance. During sleep, the body produces and regulates hormones such as growth hormone, cortisol, leptin, ghrelin, insulin, and serotonin.

thats what I thought too, but then I got skinnyfat lovehandles and apparently you need to work out 3 days a week to get rid of those, and then you also need to have a min protein quota in the 130s or something, bit of a drag but if it gets rid of these damn handles im committing
>>
>>76604289
no can do, its almost 1am.
its not all hopeless though, im fasting the next couple days to make up for all this mess.
2 day fast is my longest record though but that was before i learned abt electrolytes so hoping for 3+ days this time around :D
>>
>>76604292
the protein quotas on this board are overblown imo and you can get away with getting significantly less even if it isn't optimal, but it's true that people usually eat too little protein. I blame tv nutritionists and tree-huggers for making normies afraid of eating meat more than once or twice a week
>>
How do you actually stop feeling hungry all the fucking time? Up until recently, I had been making relatively steady progress in losing weight (I gained it back but that's not relevant lel) yet no matter how long I went without gorging my normal amount of calories I never stopped wanting to eat. Is this normal? It's not just like food noise, I feel physical pain even when I'm consuming over 1500 calories. Is this just my body freaking out because it's having to burn fat? Am I stupid?

What's your goal weight? And what would your BMI be at that point?

My goal right now is 75kg, which would put me at 21 BMI, little more than 4kg to go. But knowing myself, once I get there I'll probably want to continue. Probably to 70kg. Last time I went to 68kg, so 19 BMI, which DEFINITELY was too much and shows how you shouldn't put too much stock into BMI because that is within "normal" weight range, but I looked like a skeleton.

depends on how much you weigh
During the first 3 days like 50-70% of the weight will be either water or muscle that you will put back on immediately after refeeding, but it's still 10x faster than doing the calorie counting bullshit
Your weight should have stabilized by now and if you keep going you'll start steadily losing only fat
We have an autist that does rolling 72 hour fasts and he lost 20 pounds in one month, as a reference >>76574402

>today i have lost all hunger but i feel constantly warm, which is kinda weird
your body is freaking out since you aren't eating, around day 2 I start feeling light headed and euphoric, I've never gone longer than 3 days but I've experienced the same shit you're talking about where the hunger goes away (but you still can't stop thinking about food)
I'm no longer fat enough to be able to do extended fasts without unbearable hunger, but I've heard that if you keep going after day 5 the cravings go away completely for a few days, usually over a week, until they come back.
Good luck if you decide to keep going

I've always wondered about this, is there a definitive answer to if that's how it works or not? did it ACTUALLY undo a weeks worth of progress if you ate a weeks worth of calories? Does the body, like, actually capture 100.00% of those calories?
>>
like 95% of these studies that show "eating veggies = more gooder" mean nothing because they're introducing veggies into a diet filled with junk and seed oil fried carbs, like yeah no shit if you cut out the oreos and eat more carrots you'll feel better, that's not a high bar that proves veggies are great, it proves that industrially processed sludge of questionable safety for human consumption is not good for you
>>
>>76604622
Yeah, pretty much. Your body takes what it can from your food and you shit/piss out what it can't use, it stores what's left over of that energy as fat to use later, when you burn that energy it is exhausted from your body as you exhale CO2. Its really efficient at this. Its why you can, plan out your calories by just logging everything you eat and tallying up the calories taken in and used up, and its why cheat days are so counterproductive. If you slowly build up a 5000kcal deficit over the week and then binge 5000kcal of fried chicken and pizza you're right back where you started.

All your energy comes in and out of your body the same way, through your face. You take in food, and you exhaust out the CO2 when you burn it. Your shit and piss was material your body had no use for.
>>
>>76604642

You're entitled to your opinion, but I find them the least "special" out of the ones I mentioned. They aren't bad by any means, just lacking in special character.
They are great to snack on raw though, which none of the others are.
>>
>>76604651
If you fast that long between meals you might start getting vitamin deprived, electrolytes too. Its why people tend to limit fasting to 72h, you go much longer than that and you start depleting your electrolytes.

Your body doesn't have a good way to store proteins or amino acids either so if you're lifting and trying to gain muscle you want a fairly steady supply of protein, so again why PSMF is preferred over just extended periods of fasting. OMAD or TMAD is usually fine for most people and goals.
>>
>>76604651
>hm why have i never heard of OMAW
