>Who is /fat/ for?
For veggie vapers, working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Imagine being a CICOtard who repeatedly diligently weighs himself because he can never be truly sure his body is burning fat, and predictably sees the number go up and starts panicking. Just stop eating carbs and you won't get these weight fluctuations.
>>
>>76595713
Get injuried and get soft.
Follow SS and dirty bulk unintentionally bc tragedies wrecked my self esteem (lost job, homeless, killed a man in self defense, landed on a friends couch)
Just ate and powerlifted and drank
6ft 1 270. Hit 315 on bench for a double and deadlift 505, but now have a big swollen gut which is fixable, but massive pregnancy stretch marks that will never go away. I am at 255 now and it's disgusting. I am about 18% body fat at 200.

It's orge. I will never be aesthetic bc I became a mediocre powershitter. Even if I loose the weight I will be fucked. I'm only 26 and past my prime.

I would give anything to be a 190lb cardio and BJJ fat again like I was at 19

I would give up benching 3 plates for reps, deadlifting 5, and squating 4 if I got a healthy lean body and skin back.

There are 3 about 6-7 inches long and half an inch thick on my gut going vertically. I don't even have that big of a gut and carry 192lbs of lean body mass according to my dexa scan.

I fucked up. All those hours in the gym and eating crap just to destroy my body

Today's OMAD:
1 can sardines (166 kcal)
3 eggs (210 kcal)

Based and correct.

CICO is some sort of mental illness. They have to weigh all their food, log everything in a diary, and then still weigh themselves constantly because they know it doesn't really work. Why bother? Because they can't quit sugar?

I never weigh myself. I just eat unlimited calories of low-carb food. I know for sure I can't be fat doing that.

It does work. I can eat whatever I want and I will consistently lose a 1lb a week if I calculate 500kcal a day deficit

I dont even log my stuff. I just eyeball it. sandwich? 500kcal. Burger? Lets call it 800kcal. Its easy to eyeball if youre not in denial. I tend to overestimate to make sure I dont overdo it. I lost 1lb a week almost exactly for 12 month in a row. Didnt matter if it was sweets or boiled chicken. end result was the same

Nothing works for those people, theyre horribly addicted to food to such an extent they cannot stop themselves and get to 600+lbs.

If you just don't eat carbs your body can burn fat for energy and you won't be hungry.

Quit carbs. You can eat unlimited protein and fat. You will build muscle while continuing to lose fat.

Keto causes:
- increased metabolism
- mote muscle mass an less body fat at any weight
- less hunger
>>
>>76596307
"body recomp" takes over a year or at the bare minimum 6+ months if you've never lifted and follow a strict program
you can lose as much weight as you want, as long as you're getting enough protein in your first year and lifting hard you'll still be gaining loads of muscle
>>
>>76596313
So I guess I can just focus on cutting and as long as I eat shit ton of protien I can still gain muscle is what youre saying anon..::

Anyone else find that it's genuinely easier to just starve yourself than it is to eat a balanced diet?
>>
>>76596462
"Starve yourself" is normie terminology, fasting =/= starving, but yes, its much easier. All the science on hunger hormones explained this years ago.
>>
>>76596462
Yeah, if starving yourself didn't work that one guy that fasted for a whole year wouldn't have lived.
>>
>>76596462
Yeah it’s always easy until you fall back to binging
>>
>>76596462
>>76596476
2nded
It's way easier to stay fasted. As soon as I eat, it basically starts the "I'm hungry" clock. If I eat in the morning, light or heavy, I'm starving at noon. If I don't eat at all, its 2pm before I even notice a tiny bit of hunger....and even then, usually not until closer to dinner.
I'm also weirdly full of energy the whole time I'm fasted
>>76596332
>>76596442
To add, EC(A) stack (I prefer only EC).
Ephedrine + caffeine is the real deal. I track calories/weight, and there is a very clear breakpoint in how fast I lose weight when I start an EC stack (2x day for me, I don't like to do caffeine a 3rd time later in the day). I'll do it for like 1-2 weeks at a time since it makes me feel like I'm on crack, but the weight loss is crazy fast. I have steady weight loss slope (on average), then EC stack start will show a sharper decline in slope, then it steadies out to the original slope when I stop.

How do you know when your in ketosis? I want to try it out of curiosity
>>
>>76596744
There's degrees of ketosis, it's not like an on / off switch.
It takes about a day to get into a deep enough ketogenic state where your body is burning primarily fat instead of carbs for energy, if you've never done it you will probably feel like absolute shit for the first 1-3 days until your body adapts. Working out and doing some cardio will help make you feel better.
As for symptoms, if you've never done it before you'll most likely get a rash around day 2 or 3 (in most cases it's not severe and goes away on it's own), and by the end of day 1 you will notice your breath is much shallower. Burning fat for energy instead of carbs produces less carbon dioxide, which in turn makes your breathing lighter.

Yep it's like one day you realize your new baseline and to top it all off, it just keeps getting better from there.
>>
>>76597524
Well, I guess that settles it. Since you have never seen any reason, then I guess that it's perfectly benign.
>>

>I ate 10 twinkies a day and didn't get fat, therefore this practice isn't negatively affecting my body.
>>
>>76597566
I'm around 160lbs, do you think everyone here is obese?

>>76597619
...Yes, that's how it works. If science has settled on a drug being benign (and even beneficial), the burden of proof is on you to show otherwise
>>
>>76597623
Oh, okay. You're just going to be obtuse and lie. Science has not shown that extremely high doses of caffeine are benign. Science has shown that less than half of that at the maximum per day is what's recommended for heart health. But you knew that. I won't try to engage further.
>>
>>76597622
Twinkies don't increase metabolism, lower appetite, have 0 calories, and psychologically ease the burden/boredom of not eating

Try saying that when your wife makes your favorite treat (chocolate chip cookies for me) and leaves them in the freezer and eats them at a rate of one per week. You know they're in there, you know how nice it'd be to devour them all, you used to devour them all and it made her happy and you happy. What harm is there in just eating one every once in awhile? Maybe if I budget for them it wouldn't be so bad just to have one. Next thing you know you've eaten them all.
>>
>>76597635
Cigarettes are bad because:
>Chronic nicotine use causes the brain to adapt to the presence of the drug by changing the number and sensitivity of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. These changes can persist for months or years after quitting.
>Reward System Alteration: Nicotine hijacks the brain’s reward pathways by increasing dopamine release, especially in the mesolimbic system. This rewiring can make the brain more sensitive to triggers, stress, or cues related to smoking—even long after stopping.

Neither of those apply to caffeine, any brain changes are (very shortly) reversible upon cessation, it's the mildest drug which exists.

Tell her to stop making cookies lol. Or to make different ones (lots of protein-heavy recipes with lower carbs, like protein bar type recipes).
My GF used to make food like that all the time. We both started getting fit (she was fine weight-wise, just 0 cardio ability) and she stopped making food like that; we switched to healthier recipes instead. At this point, there are a ton of variations on "healthy' desserts (cookies, bars, pancakes even).

There is no danger of dying under 7 days of fasting. (it's assumed that you are not a dysgenic mongoloid).
Try to do a dry fast instead of a water one.
The thing that has worked best for me when it comes to not feeling like shit is keeping my mind off it. So I read for a couple of hours and then go for a very long walk and just think and keep my mind off the fast. Doing house chores also helps.

There's exactly one guy on 4ch, sometimes here, sometimes on /b/, trying to hospitalized people by encouraging 'dry' fasting, i.e., dying. The human body shuts down without fluid intake after roughly 3-5 days, and this fag knows it. That's why he always encourages a week long death fast. He probably thinks he's doing the devil's work or something edgy like that, but he always plays it straight in threads like, "oh, you can't go without fluids for weeks? Sounds like you need to man up" and does not break character. He is just doing the same shtick as the mix chlorine and ammonia for crystals meme - he wants to hurt people.

>>
>>76598789
Water fasting is fine. 48 hour water fasts are easy. 5 day or more fasts and you need to consider electrolytes, so have some potassium, salt, and magnesium available. Don't overdo the potassium or you'll have explosive water shots. After 5 days it gets pretty hard to find energy for much but it's also the best time for fat loss.

Never, ever, attempt a waterless fast.

You can fuck up your elbow from tons of things, too much computer use in non-ergomonic positions, jacking off too much, sports, exercise, basically anything where you do the same repetitive actions using your arm or hands. Honestly you should only really optimize for ergonomics if its something you use everyday and then once you start feeling discomfort coming from your hands or your elbow. It can get kind of expensive depending on what you already use.

The stuff I learned came from an occupational therapist I was referred to so idk how good the information is online for ergonomics.
Basically I just:
>got an office chair with adjustable arm rests and tons of padding (for me, it was a Steelcase Amia
>adjust height of chair and arm rest so your arms are either 90 degrees with the desk or slightly above
>always rest of your forearms, if you to need rotate your elbows out so the inside of your elbow is slightly resting on the armrest
>use a vertical mouse
>make sure you're sitting on your ass/upper hammies and not on tailbone or lower back
>stretch hands and arms multiple times a day

I ended up having to buy a new desk because the one I used was too high, even for the max height of my chair. All in all expensive but worth it in the end I think

I'm addicted to bags of frozen tortellini. For years I would eat an entire bag at once mixed with a tomato sauce and a pound meat usually sausage.
I still love it and consider it close to the perfect satiating meal but it's well over what I should be eating in a day.
Even though I've been telling myself I'm going to do it I never did but today I actually only boiled half of it and put the other half in a container to save for tomorrow. I still feel too full and it should probably be 1/3rd at most but it's a step in the right direction at least. Intermittent fasting helps me with that. After a certain time you don't get to eat anything so it's easier to adhere to that strict rule. After a week or two your hunger hormones change so you get hungry during you eating hours and not that hungry when it's not time to eat. Maybe try a new hobby to fill your time.
>>
>>76599518
Too big of a deficit for a long time messes up your hormones and metabolism so it's easy to regain it all back. You need a plan to maintain your weight when you reach your goal weight. What diet has helped you maintain the easiest? One that you can actually stick with is the best for you. Adding a bit of cardio as a bit of a buffer helped me. Have strict max weight where you have to start dieting again if you regain and go above it. I felt the least hungry while fasting, try that out. You can throw in a couple fasting days when ever you gain a couple of pounds.

So, I haven't even touched a mayo for the 6 months I've been dieting because I just heard so many people saying that it was literally 9 zillion calories or something, when you google it says it says 680kcal/100g, so I never even bothered to look on the label on the supermarket. But today I just went to grab some tomato sauce, saw a mayo nearby and decided to check, it's 133kcal/100g. I check another mayo, similar value. I check a 3rd one, same shit. WTF? And it's not like a shitty diet mayo or anything, it's literally the same mayo I used to eat, and all other mayos seemed around the same. The whole package has like 198g btw. If you eat the whole thing it's like 260kcal?

A chicken breast is like 130kcal/100g. It's almost the same. Obviously mayo is probably all carbs and fat, I'm not saying it's good macros or healthy or as filling or anything, but IDGAF about that, the only reason I was avoiding it is because I thought it was 9 zillion calories and it'd make me fat, but I could literally fit a whole package of that shit everyday and my CICO would still have been okay.

I feel lied to by the media, you guys and Google. Fucking hell. I'm having a potato salad with a gigaton of mayo tomorrow for my OMAD. I guess the lesson for me here is to always look at the food label instead of trusting you fucks.

Is this a copypasta or something? As long as you're not doing a marathon out in the sun or w/e your own metabolic water will sustain you and it'll take about 2-3 weeks before there's danger. Dry fasting should always be done indoors with AC and you should be mindful of accidentally losing water like by eating protein because the hydrolysis required to separate amino acids consumes water.

24 hours into my fast last night, I cooked a bunch of food for work this week and stuck it in my freezer without breaking my fast. Last week I did the same thing and the smell of cooking meat was tortuous, but this time I wasn't even really tempted.

sounds like someone isn't getting enough protein and fat
>>
Last meal for the day. Some crumbed chicken, potato and beans. My head feels like its trying to detox already, and its day 1. How long until I no longer crave the sweet treats?

I think I might have eaten a small chicken bone or something because my stomach is a little upset and I feel something around my neck that won't go away with water

the real question is why do reply back yet again?
>>
>>76600244
what do you mean last meal?
does that mean you ate multiple times?
as a fatty you literally dont eat or MAX ONE MEAL a day
drink vitamin c to stop the detox symptoms like headache
>>
>>76600299
>no anon dont eat calories
>but do drink calories
wut
>>
>>76600297
We're just two fatties, forever locked in a shitposting spiral, never to meet, never to win. Until the ending of the thread that binds us all.
Also dry fasting loses weight about twice as fast as water fasting btw. Your body kicks into high gear to make metabolic water which is why fat reserves are important. I like talking about it, to answer your question.
>>
>>76598825
There was a guy on here I think a week and a half ago but don't quote me on that who was saying he did like six weeks dry fasting. It was so transparent to anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of a nutrition that he was lying. But then again people here believe that spinach is toxic and you should just take random mushroom extracts from China to boost test, So you can guess that people were engaging with him and actually believed it.

I would look into thyroid issues or vitamin deficiencies. Getting those checked in a blood panel is fairly cheap and is a good investment overall. I don't think you have a psychological issue here, But of course, like anyone, I could be wrong. Either way, I wish you the best.

>1600 calorie meal
>>
>>76600125
I don't want to put a damper on what was probably a delicious meal, but in the United States, the FDA does not require the oil that the food was cooked in to count towards the calories. And you're talking about fried chicken here, so.

drink vitamin c to anyone that isnt into diet culture or whatever usually comes across as drink ur vtiamic c not drink vitamin c
>>
>>76600393
The discussion is over. You were blatantly wrong. Everybody on this board knows about supplements. I'm not going to continue this discussion.
>>
>>76600391
yes, do not worry about daily fluctuations at all, i'm sure this is in the sticky
you have to zoom out and look at general trends.
to minimise fluctuations (but maybe not remove them) try weighting yourself in a consistent way, for example in the morning after you wake up, after taking your morning piss, completely naked (so different clothes don't affect the measurement), but even in this case there will be fluctuations
>>
>>76600394
okay anon, get off ur high horse
dont need to get pissy
>>
>>76600393
You're in the fat loss general. This is diet culture. You have no points to make. Stop arguing.
>>

The comment that you copied this insult from said linguistic mannerisms, but nice try anyway.

This is actually kind of sad, like his mom told him when he was little that the only way to get vitamins and get strong was to drink his OJ. Anon couldn't even fathom the possibility of getting your nutrients without ingesting a ton of sugar to go down with them.

Anon, I hope this is a moment of learning. You don't have to drink unnecessary calories.

Even vitamin C is a meme in and of itself, you can get all you need by eating regular meat and veggies, maybe a squeeze of lime on your salads every once in a while.

Don't just change the amount of food that you eat, but also the type and quality: by any chance, do of often eat out? I find it much more difficult to regain weight when cooking mostly at home, minimizing the overall NOVA score of my ingredients. (But then I'm French and I properly devour bread at every opportunity so there is that counterbalancing my efforts.)

Also, as others have pointed out, you are simply not eating enough when cutting, and it is not sustainable. Try to eat more, be more active (it not only burns calories, and maintain muscle mass, but also helps regulate appetite), and integrate it into your lifestyle.

Same.
Baguette so good, man. Really gotta eat less of it, but it goes so well with everything.

Of all the foods I had to give up I only truly miss bread.
But 80% of my deficit comes from cutting it out, so there's no going back for me.
I cope with crispbread for breakfast and supper.
