The actual secret OP is looking for is that your calves arent made for pushing. They can do it but what they're really their for is stretching and rebounding. Either do your calf raises focusing on the stretch or run correctly which means hitting the ground almost flat footed (the front of your foot lands a microsecond before the rest of it, and the bending your knees more than you think you should causing a calf stretch and rebound). Toe walking is dumb.

If you want size, you need to train for strength. Meaning you need a more moderate volume but with heavy weight. Four sets for calves twice per week. Two sets standing, two sets seated.
