>calisthenics BAD!!!...Why?
>>76609311Calisthenics aren’t “bad” and they have their place but they are worse than weightlifting.
>>76609311Why are they good is honestly a better question if you ask me. The quantum doofituliary variables is probably the biggest factorials of it.
>>76609311They're for dyels too scared to do barbells
>>76609311Calisthenics less efficient but fun./thread
>>76609338>Why are they goodNo equipment neededMore fun
>>76609311>>76604008
I did heavy barbell compounds for several years and got better results from calisthenics. Simple as
>>76609456what's this obssesion with trying to turn any related discussion into a general? generals are the most awful discussion format possible. i will never post inside a general or visit a general discussion, ever.
>>76609311for bodybuilders, you can't do isolated progression overload on individual muscles to grow them to the desired sizefor general athleticism, simple calisthenics are a standard but a purist pursuit of calisthenics ends up requiring you to dangerous exercises that you can only fail safely out of with good reaction and strength vs. barbells where the dangers and simple ways to safely abort are very well-known for fatties, Mark Wildman makes the point that you can't make fine adjustments to weight/sets/reps to intangibly increase work over time because the weight isn't adjustable except by adding even more to the fatty's already-weighted framethat's why. If you're not a fatty then all you have to do is calisthenics without making it your fitness identity, and you'll get only the good parts.
>>76609658>the weight isn't adjustableit isn't precisely adjustable, that is. There are loads of regression/progression options for each exercise, but it's not like adding 0.3kg to a weight every week like Mark Wildman thinks is the key to easy progression
>>76609311it's what vegans and fat people usually sayvegans say this because they have been brainwashed into thinking that only their method of training works, they are usually victims of marketing or autistic (inability to process alternative points of view is a sign of autism)fat people say this because they repeat 4chan memesevery type of workout that makes you move and do shit is actually GOOD for you, period.now it can be rephrased as >calisthenics BAD for goal Xthen we are talking, for instance if you just want to put size/muscle and that's all you care about then there's no faster and easier way to do it than by using weights, obviously (including weighted pullups and dips)people don't just stick with calisthenics, they usually branch out into learning skills, streetlifting (competitions where people do weighted pullups, dips and muscle ups, aka main compounds), statics and all thatI would say calisthenics is great especially for beginners, it's dumb to go to a gym as a newbie and lift 5-10kg weights if you can't pullup or dip yourself even, since this shit is free you can get a decent base and then go hard on weights doing meaningful lifts to actually make progress, or stick to calisthenics if you actually like it more>>76609658>the weight isn't adjustableit is, because it's a matter of levers, simple aspullups too easy? try to pull more with one hand while assisting as little as you can with the otherpushups too easy? do pushups to waist, raise your legs from the ground, full extended legs planche pushups is peak upperbody push performance and it's scalable to zero with knee pushupsrows too easy? same as above, row to your waist, raise your legs to do tuck front lever pullups/rows, extend your legs and get a very demanding lift that's also peak upperbody pulling strength and it's also scalable to literally zero
Just doing stairmaster and then deadlifting builds MORE muscle. But not mobility. Also the progression is ultra janky without a good idea on how and why
>>76609448Neither of these "benefits" are even health/fitness related lmao
>>76609894>it is, because it's a matter of levers, simple as>you should be able to do 1 handed pushups if you can a regular pushupThats so bad. You can't even control the progress, you just have to guess
>>76609338>>76609412>>76609433Weight is weight>>76609448This
>>76609931Indirectly they areIf those benefits make you more likely to exercise then they are valid for health/fitness
>>76609311As someone who did gymnastics from age 16 to 22 and then transitioned into weightlifting, weightlifting all around is so much better. The only thing calisthenics is good at building is your triceps and shoulders but with ridiculous amounts of practice compared to weightlifting. I guess the better question is what is your budget? If you got no money then calisthenics is all you got.
>>76609939>it doesnt matter if you dont lose weight or gain any muscle mass>what matters is that you had funlmaoooooooooo
>>76609311>>calisthenics BAD!!!>...Why?They're not.You can do them anywhere, need no equipment, and they create and maintain healthy muscle and a healthy cardio system. Train in a way that you enjoy it, be it with body weight training or weight training, and you'll end up doing it and keep healthy your entire life.
>>76609945Well good thing that you can lose weight and gain musclemass when doing them
>>76609935>you should be able to do 1 handed pushups if you can a regular pushupI literally did not say that the progression ispushups -> pushups to waist (pseudo planche pushups where you lean forward and keep the scapula protracted, this is harder than it sounds, try it yourself nigga) -> tuck planche pushups -> advanced tuck -> straddle -> planche pushupsyou can easily control the progress and scale it down to zero, as well as dynamically making the lift harder during the lift itself for an involuntary eccentric
>>76609952You should have stated that but thats true for anything. You specifying working out has to be fun indicates you aren't really serious about neither of those things though. Not really sure what you are even arguing for since it sounds like you don't really care
>>76609955Try to keep up anon. Im trying to say how piss poor that style of progression is. You literally have no way to measure if you are getting better or not other than measuring the angle to how you are doing reps. It seems like the only way to progress in calisthenics is to just keep upping the volume which is fine but at the same time you have to stop trying to convince people this is more optimal than weightlifting. Everyone already knows how to make any calisthenics movement harder. You should have just said to add weights and move onto weighted calisthenics
>>76609961>Im trying to say how piss poor that style of progression is. it's as good as it gets>You literally have no way to measurebut you doprogression too easy? you move to the next progressionyou don't need to be autistic about measuring the specific angle and doing some advanced calculus to evaluate how much you are lifting, your ultimate goal is the peak movement (planche pushups for instance), this what you are grinding for, one inch at a time.> It seems like the only way to progress in calisthenics is to just keep upping the volumebut I'm saying that it's not, you can do compounds like dips and pullups weighted sure but as I said you can simply use physics at your advantage and change the levera front lever row puts som much more strain on the back and shoulders than a regular row, you don't need to have a degree in mathematics to know that it's equivalent to putting more weight >You should have just said to add weights and move onto weighted calisthenicsno because that's not even how it works, besides some lifts like pushups or rows are weird to overload with weights, this is why progressions exist
>>76609961>You literally have no way to measure if you are getting better or notHere's a wild idea: you simply perform the movement until you can't. No reps counted. No progressive overload. It's all autistic bs. The most effective way to measure progress is by feels. You can't convince your body anything else.
>>76609984lmao, just do weighted calisthenics.>>76609986sounds like you dont workout in general let alone do any sort of calisthenics.
>>76609959I would simply not work out if it wasn't funSounds like a shitty way to liveCalisthenics are maybe not superior to weighttraining but they're probably 90%+ as effective and if they're more fun and cost nothing then I find them good
>>76609992I do calisthenics every single day. Tell me how counting reps or increasing weight has any benefit over performing a movemenr until you cannot within 20 reps. You don't need to count 20 reps to know you've done fewer. I guarantee you don't have a single valid point. I've employed every well known training discipline for extended periods of time. I have a barbell, a rack and a thousands lbs of iron. Calisthenics > all
>>76609999>Tell me how counting reps or increasing weight has any benefitYou can track progress. Whats next? How does counting the amount of money in your bank account benefit you when you can just be happy spending?
>>76610005Your body has a built in tracker called fatigue you gay nigger
>>76609998>I would simply not work out if it wasn't funThen you aren't serious about working out. Everyone knows working out is hard work but people do it because they want to be fit/healthy. The moment things get too hard for you, you will quit.
>>76610009Oh is that why everyone doesn't work out? Because they are too fatigued to go to the gym?
>>76609992post body
>>76610028You shouldnt want to be serious about working out, having fun while doing it is more healthy
>>76610042nigga, i do calisthenics. I am a dyel, what are oyu expecting out of me? Im not a weightlifter arguing for weightlifting, im a calisthenics guy telling everyone how dogshit this is. Im too poor to afford weights or any equipment. I can bust out 50 handstand pushups for you if you want but im 120lbs you dumb fuck
>>76610049>You shouldn't be serious about being healthy>Its healthier to not be serious about health
>>76610060That's rightWork out with a smile and not a frown
>>76610035>counting reps and adding weights somehow magically changes the way fatigue works
>>76610065>fatigue threshold is constant at the least every day and only improves
>>76609311LOL look at that dumb FUCK tiger. Get mogged tranimals.
>>76610072yeah so for example if it starts taking too long to fatigue on pull ups you make them harder by progressing to archer pull ups. No counting reps or adding weight required.
>>76610093>there is no way my fatigue threshold can get worse>it will either be the same as yesterday or even better, thats why i know im improving
>>76610103counting reps magically changes fatigue threshold:no. you're retarded im sorry your brain doesnt work. count those reps retard
>>76610105>i dont need to count reps because my body never gets fatigued anymore, it has gotten that good
>>76610119>i count reps until body gets fatigued>i dont count reps until body gets fatiguedbody is fatigued same number of reps counted or not. the only difference is you're retarded and im not
I built my body with mainly calisthenics. I mostly do gymnastics rings. I can do deep pelican pushups weighted bulgarian dips one handed ring rows and many other excercises that most of you could never do because rings stresses your biceps and tendons like no other excercise. Calisthenics will give you a god like body. Show me a body builder who can get on the rings and turn them out and do an iron cross...because I can.
>>76609311I tried pure calesthenics for years and I find that it's just really frustrating and results take forever. It just seems like it takes too long to get any results and the high level moves are just downright dangerous and there's no 2 ways about it. Go look at the thread where the guy tore his bicep in 2. It was from some fancy calesthenics position. Lifting can be badly done too, like all those guys with rolled forward boulder shoulders look like shit. But I think (personally) a mix of 40% cardio (bike and rows) 40% lifting and 20% calesthenics is the golden mix. I'm a DYEL tho for health reasons so take what I say with a grain of salt.
>>76610185correction: I'm a DYEL, who did calesthenics for years but couldn't stay motivated and started cardio and weight training and have way more results already but that's mostly because I find it more fun.Calesthenics are REALLY good for training all the micromuscles tho. Everyone should be able to do a good pull up set if they're /fit/
>>76610124>my body never ever gets fatigued because i trained it that way>if you train like me, you can also never reach fatigue
>>76609311Hurts my joints bro
>>76610155Does it count if I did gymnastics and then moved into bodybuilding while also still doing a bit of gymnastics? Also you aren't doing gymnastics for a few years, you do it your whole life.
>>76610214Im 31 years old and I started ~3 years ago. I've done many pullups but it took me a while to condition by tendons to do an iron cross without snapping my shit
>>76610222>3 years>that much progressWhat type of gymnastics do you do? Ive seen people do iron cross who are dyel and remained dyel.
>>76610210i get it you dont speak english natively and have the reading comprehension of a vegetable. counting to 5 is your greatest life achievement
>>76610244>im trying to say your body's threshold of fatigue should stay consistent, its your natural rep counter>it will stay consistent and only improve, you can *count* on it
>>76610255why do you keep quoting yourself. you're not paraphrasing me. i feel sorry if anybody has to be near you irl
>>76610260>alright, my fatigue may differ but you are wrong. fatigue stays consistent and is best rep counter>with enough training, your fatigue threshold will never be reached during training like me
>>76610265I'm glad to know the anti-calisthenics types are quite literally mentall ill autism riddled non english speaking types
>>76610235Lmao you've never trained a single day on the rings. I've humbled many dudes much bigger than me on the most basic ring excercises because their tendons and straight arm strength is weak af. I only do rings. Im too old to do any of the other gymnastics stuff.
Weight training is better by every metric. Calisthenics fags are either:A. Too scared and autistic to step foot in a gym (or too poor for membership lel) orB. They do go to a gym but haven't matured mentally past the age of 12 so they think doing their "super tuck push planche straddle pullup progression" in the middle of the gym is cool and everyone is mirin them when really they just look retarded All are dyel tho
>>76610313>Lmao you've never trained a single day on the ringsProjecting are we? You can't even tell me what type you do and you even claim there are gymnasts bigger than you. Have you even watched the oly events? You see both dyel and jacked gymnasts
>>76610335i went to the gym maxed every machine for reps left never came back. calisthenics is superior and it aint even close
>>76610374>A. Too scared and autistic to step foot in a gym (or too poor for membership lel)
>>76610392seems it is only gym goers who think like this which means you must think going to a gym is an accomplishment. i can't think of anybody more beta sounding than you. gym is a nothingburger less actually it steals your time
>>76610400"Calisthenics is good because I don't have to leave the cuckshed!" Stop coping and go to the gym bro

>>76610358Im not sure what you mean then by what type of gymnastics i train. Honestly bro I just ordered some rings from Amazon and watched a few videos on YouTube. I wouldnt call myself a gymnist... just a hobbiest. Olympic gymnast are massive dudes that is true. Personally I dont care for the massive look I like the lean but strong better. In my picture would you say im a dycel?
>>76609311Fitness-industrial complex doesn't want you to train outside of their gyms
>>76610427Honestly bro you're gonna have to take things quite slow. Tendons and ligmants develope much slower than muscle. If you have golfers elbow or shoulder impingments or any other type of injury like that my advise is DO NOT STOP WORKING OUT. Thst is the worst thing to do is let pain sit and fester. Do whatever minimum workouts you can do with the hurt body part, take it slow and really listen to you body. There is a peptide called bcp-153 that worked really well on tendinitis in my elbow. It needs to be injected so I hope you're not afraid of needles
>>76610563I too suffer from hairloss. That wrecked my entire life desu. Taking dutasteride oral fin and a ton of supplements really brought my hsir back. It isnt perfect but much better

>>76609984>no because that's not even how it works, besides some lifts like pushups or rows are weird to overload with weights, this is why progressions existYou can wear a backpack and put concrete or bricks inside it.>>76610053>Im too poor to afford weights or any equipmentThe cost of home gym is 100 dollars.>>76610335Calisthenics are more functional and natural, powersharting or bodybuilding is too artificial. There is also third reason to not go to the gym - the gym is too far away.
>>76611013>Fitness-industrial complex doesn't want you to train outside of their gymsIn Europe we have communism and we have free street gyms with pull up bars, dips and other shit. But commercial gyms still exist.
What would compel someone to pick up heavy objects to lift when he can barely lift his own body? Calisthenics should always precede weightlifting in the greater scheme of strength training, but most people do not have the discipline to do this. Building the Gymnastic Body presents a good case for this.>How strong is it possible to become w i t h gymnastics exercises? Amazingly strong. In fact I w o u l d go so far as to say, done correctly, far stronger than someone who had trained for the same amount of time with free weights. Want some concrete examples? One of my former students, JJ Gregory (1993 Junior National C h a m p i o n on the Still Rings) developed such a high degree of strength from my gymnastics conditioning program that on his first day in his high school weightlifting class he deadlifted 400lbs, and this at the scale breaking weight of 135 lbs. and a height of 5'3">After this I was curious and wanted to measure JJ's one-rep max on weighted pull-ups. We started fairly light with 10 lbs. or so. I continued adding more weight while JJ performed single rep after single rep. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about chinning belts and chains at that time, and the cheap leather belt we were using broke at 75 lbs. Once again, I repeat, at 75 lbs. and JJ had never performed a weighted pull-up in his life. But he had performed years of my specialized gymnastics conditioning exercises. How much could JJ have chinned that day? We will never know for sure, but I will tell you that at 75 lbs., JJ was laughing and joking with me and did not appear to be noticeably bothered by the weight.
>>76609311It's not. The real problem is that most the >people who post here don't actually work out.Rendering their opinions null and void.
>>76610374>i went to the gym maxed every machine for reps left never came back. calisthenics is superiorLet me guess you went to a normie gym with 90lb machine cables. These are made for women and normies. Let me see you max out the barbells in my gym where you can load +500kg, faggot dyel calisthenics pajeet
>>76611280>Calisthenics are more functional and naturalCalisthenics builds by far the most dysfunctional and unbalanced physiques. Not even gonna mention the legs but even the upper body. You're ALL pencil neck traplet hunch backs.
>>76611284>What would compel someone to pick up heavy objects to lift when he can barely lift his own body? What kind of retarded hypoethitcal is this even? i was doing 30 pull ups when i was deadlifting 800lbs. Pull ups are a novice exercise. iterally little kids do this
>>76611284>most people do not have the discipline to do thisUsually the people i meet in gyms are many times more disciplined and serious about lifting then people in calisthenic parks. Might be the fact you have to pay for the gym or whatever but the most impressive thing i've seen in a calipark is a 50kg literal twig doing a front lever hold, meanwhile i've seen few guys benching 200kg and deadlift over 300kg
>>76611606You sure care alot about other men's bodies. And have alot of photos saved of shirtless guys.Faggot.
>>76611619This is /fit/. If you don't like bodybuilding and seeing naked men makes you insecure you're free to leave any time. We lift weights here.
>>76611606Shoulder exercises train upper traps. Also you should do weighted calisthenics + some dumbbell exercises.
>>76611654ok dyel
>>76611606I don't know about traps, but i've never seen a decent calisthenics "athlete" with good legs. Always have shitty small calves and tiny legs in general. I can't tell about the legs, because they usually workout withou a shirt on the upper body, long pants on the legs, but sometimes they use shorter pants and you can see tiny calves.Like, nigga run once in awhile, do sprinting or cycling for legs at least. Do something for those legs at least. The guys with the most impressive upper body movements usually have the tiniest of legs too.
>>76611682I'm good friends with a calisthenics guy. He does all the tricks, front lever, dragon flags, back lever, whatever. But he can't bench 2pl8 for even a single rep and he squats like 80 kilo. Whenever he's at the gym, his workout is just like infinity sets of unweighted pullups. His physique looks very strange too, massive back, looks like he's hunched over always, then stick legs.
>>76610212surprised nobody has shopped him into an armchair yet and put a newspaper in his hands
>>76611695so you're saying volume is key?
>>76611728I'd say volume spread throughout the day. This guy does hundreds of pullups a day. He has a pull up bar in his room and in his yard. Whatever he is doing and whemever he passes the bar he does 15-20 pullups. The strongest men 50 years ago, the first powerlifters, they would work out all day. That guy who squatted the most would just stand in his yard and do squats all day every other day.
>>76609572holy fucking based
>>76609311Because they remind me how fat I am each time I see them#StopPowerFatShaming
>>76609311It takes a long time to get volumeIts hard to get higher intensitiesThere are only so many muscles you can reasonably work with themBut, they're based
since I started going to the gym I don't think about calisthenics at all. I used to do calisthenics every day for years but I've made more progress with 6 months of gym. that said, I had a really good starting point for the gym, so I'm kind of stacking noob gains on top of an already intermediate physique and fantastic cardio and mobility. if it wasn't for calisthenics this wouldn't be so easy in the first place
>>76611865>explains why it's in fact cringe and dyel>but it's based!no
>>76609311Just say you're scared shitless to go to a gym.
>>76611720Got this if it makes you feel any better
>>76611750>hundreds of pullups a dayfor what purpose
good
>>76611605The gym I went to weight stacks were around 300lbs. It's cute that gym goers like to sound superior tho. I know how strength standards work I know how much weight I can move I have a background in barbell training. Calisthenics are simply superior mr chud mcgee
>>76612659oh and also I have 1000lbs of plates and a barbell at home I dont go to a gym to barbell train when I can do that at home I go for machines and there's no point when you can max out 300lbs on a back extension or whatever
>>76612103Cause he is shit at benching, squatting, deadlifting, pressing. But he says "at least i can be elite at pull ups" and he's overall a pretty chill guy so who cares, let him have fun.

Because I don't like it.
>>76611929yes
it's dumb to simp for pure calisthenics because it's incredibly cheap to introduce weights to ittake any old backpack, put some weights in it (books, bricks, old weight plates, w/e) and you immediately unlock these exercises and potentially many more:>weighted pullups>weighted dips>weighted pushups>weighted squats/pistol squats>one arm backpack press>one arm curls>standing one arm french press with a backpackget an ab roller for a few bucks and you can do weighted rollsget a tennis ball or buy ball handles for your pullup bar for a few bucks and you can spam your grip like motherfuckerget a few stronger resistance bands and with a bit of creativity you can replace at least a few machinesyou must be an extreme poorfag or incarcerated to not be able to afford a few plates that will let you progress for a long time
>>76612989I do this.

Calisthenics chads, how do you recognize overtraining?
>>76614796To each his own. And i'm not some roidtranny who want to look big. For me calisthenic is enough as my goal is lean and fit enough with some muscle.

The only exercising I actually enjoy is playing soccer, cycling, and running. I detest the gym and hate weight lifting. I don't like strength training but I recognise the benefits, so I do some calisthenics for vanity reasons
>>76615297Just feel it bro
>>76615557>The only exercising I actually enjoy is playing soccer, cycling, and running. As hobby, its fine. Anything beyond requires training sessions in gym too.
I can't do them personally because I have Schitcox's Syndrome
>>76615570I tend to do that for most things, but isn't this the type of thing that just plateaus your gains without you realizing?
>>76615297Not actually possible. If you've no more strength then what are you doing these sets in excess with? You would most get nothing done, which would have no consequences. If you do have more strength then how could they be excess? Is training not pushing to the limit to raise it?
