>Who is /fat/ for?
For Two Ton Truckers, working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

how stupid would it be to focus on weight loss until i get from 260 to like 220 or 200 so I dont make too much of a radical lifestyle change by also adding weight lifting + cardio?

That would be retarded. You're pre bulked. Perfect opportunity to smash your newbie gains

is that how it works? i was under the assumption that muscle gain came from newly ingested calories/protein, and current fat was just used to create energy?

>>
>>76630496
Yep it's exactly how it works especially for beginners. Energy is energy as long as protein is high enough. Never made sense to me to lose a bunch of weight only to turn around and gain it again in an attempt to build muscle. Recomposition is a real thing and at that weight if you take lifting seriously you could end up at 180lbs or whatever in good shape or 180lbs looking like a bag of smashed assholes

Somehow despite my tracking I’ve been putting on weight again - I’m already down from 120kgs to 88 but I’m not losing anymore and it’s fucking killing me mentally, I’ve been plateauing for 3 weeks now.

Any ideas? Do I just need to switch up my diet? Am I not tracking strict enough? (I try not to do things like oils for cooking but any sauces I generally will do)

Dinner
Tortellini:1100 calories
Tomato Sauce with cream:240 calories
1/2lb Sausage:600 calories
Total:3,410 calories, maintenance calories 3350, Gain of 60 calories.

Man I didn't want to post this, real embarrassing I couldn't go one day without fucking up but I promised I would be honest. I was doing fine until evening but then something happened that upset me and bam I turned to food.
Learned a few lessons, I need to find an alternate outlet for my emotions other than food. Second I need to pay closer attention to what I eat and not just the calories. The sausage has so many more calories I don't get filled up enough eating so little. Need to swap out for chicken or ground beef. Also dropping the cream sauce for a straight tomato sauce and I can probably live with half the amount of sauce as well. The pasta is empty calories I should swap to potatoes or just veggies.
I've got some leftover frozen meals I prepped weeks ago, going to try to eat those for the next few days.
Won't have a good calorie count because it's just slop in a bag but they are all pretty healthy. I'll try to guestimate.
Hope you guys were more successful today. Maybe tomorrow I will be too.

Breakfast:
A Granny Smith Green Apple: 123 calories, apple weighed 9 ounces

Lunch:
A sandwich that is made with Honey ham (70 calories for 2 slices or 56 grams) from Aldi, Slice turkey (70 calories for 2 slices), cheese from chipotle cheddar cheese (90 calories for a single slice), organic spring mix (3 calories) 3 tomato slices (15 calories in total), 1 onion slice (6 calories) and the bread was 70 calories for 2 slices

Combine Caloric intake was 324

Dinner:
Bistek Ala Mejicana
USDA Choice beef bottom round steak, (pulpa blanca) 368 calories for 6.55 ounces
and once cup of jasmine rice for 205 calories for 573 calories

so in total I ate about 1,065 calories today

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances involving a violent crime where I live, I was not able to go on my walks. I'm not that worried since my maintenance calories are 3,632. But still a bit miffed that I couldn't go today.

Still dropping weight fairly quickly even a couple of days after breaking a fast and eating in a 1000-1500 deficit. >>76631967
Ok, fine, you might be overhydrated or overcaffeinated if you drink 4 liters a day
>>
>>76631973
the sweetener(s) are listed as possible carcinogens as one thing
second thing soda is acidic so it ruins teeth
three it's more expensive than water so it could be taking away funds from actually healthy and nutritious foods
>>
>>76630713
what annoys me is that they pretty much always only say the calories when the sugary water (brine? syrup?) they're suspended in is drained off. But who the hell pours that tasty sweet stuff down the drain? I'd rather drink it, but that's where all the calories are. And they give no info as to how many.
Which is why I like the stuff that's artificially sweetened, it tends to be expensive and you can't get it everywhere but they give the full (and thanks to the artificial sweetening, quite low) calories for the whole glass so I can have a sizable snack without any hidden nonsense.
>>
>>76630865
it's just a fuckin spiral, it's not even triangular or heart shaped
>>
>>76631980
The amount of sweeteners is extremely small relative to the amount that could be carcinogenic. Think of how tuna or salmon technically has mercury, but the amount is so small you don't worry about it.
It is acidic, but if you don't overdo it and drink it excessively you're completely fine, just like every other food
A 2 liter bottle of diet soda is like $2.30 it's not that serious

im currently 74kg skinnyfat 5'10, apparently the loseit app I'm on is telling me ill be 70kg by mid-late october
im assuming this belly wont go away by the time I actually get to 70kg even though ive been strength training progressions since june
im still proper skinnyfat with love handles and no flat belly by the time im in 70kg idk what to do,do I really have to keep cutting uinto the 60s, or do I now have to commit to a couple months of maintenance or bulking to build muscle or some shit

no idea how close i am to escaping skinnyfat hell but at least im closer now than I was a year ago, but i also really hope i havent massively fucked up my macros or whatever and my body composition is raped to be skinnyfat when im 70

Basically. One thing to note- you need to lift weight in addition to eating a lot of protein if you want to preserve muscle. Eating protein alone and not lifting doesn't do anything to preserve muscle, so make sure you are lifting.

Yeah, I like to loose weight asap. I have used many different methods of loosing weight like calorie restriction, keto, whatever with good results, this is just the easiest and fastest way to loose weight imo. Far easier to not just eat anything for couple of days (for me at least). I like to eat a slight surplus while lifting often when Im not loosing weight, takes me around a year to gain enough weight to start dieting again.
>>76632685
Meh, my lifts havent dropped and Im the most muscular I have ever been, works for me.
>>
>>76632603
This is the way. I've been lifting for 7 years and put on muscle but was basically stuck at the same bf. 24 hour fasts then breaking with a bigger meal usually around 800 calories. 4-5 mile walks then 3-4 mile runs mixed in. When you're already active I feel like your primed for weight loss and your body knows how to use the fat. I never get tired or excessively hungry and almost instantly see results. A million times better than normal calorie restriction which is gradual barely visible and then ruined once I start binging again. Barely any strength change either. Last time I even got stronger. I shoot for at least 5lbs (2.27kg) a week and I usually only need 15-20lbs so it's a quick process. Im doing it now and a week in and i already look good in shirts when a week ago I had a little beer belly
>>
>>76632715
>ruined once I start binging again.
Yeah, I dont really binge but when restricting calories enough to see meaningful change on the scale I get so fucking fed up with it that I just say fuck it and go buy the worst kinds of foods to eat.
>>
Opinions on just snacking on toasts (with no fat and with some spices) until afternoon to prevent binging? I think I can manage on 5 half-wholegrain toasts at work, so that's about 250 calories + morning white coffee.
>>

Can 10 pounds of fat be the difference between pants fitting tightly and loosely?
>>
>>76633183
depends on how fat you are and where you store fat
and depends on the size of the pants and in which place they are tight/loose
>>
>>76633208
currently 19% bf
mostly i would say they're tight in the hip area
>>
>>76633220
10lbs of fat could be like ~1-3%bf depending on how heavy you are
and if most of the fat is around the hips causing the buttong to be tight then losing 10lbs would make them fit good but can't tell if they would get loose(I doubt they would)

This was an interesting article.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2025-09-weight.html

It matches with my first hand experience in that if I was hungry, if I went for a walk I would find that my hunger would subside. All the more reason for everybody to try and be active every day.
>>
>>76633469
humans are not mice
I'd attribute it more to your mind being focused on exercise instead of how "hungry" it is
>>
>>76633473
I don't know. Walking doesn't really require much mental focus. And it didn't feel like a scenario like I got distracted and forgot about the hunger. The hunger went away. I figured it was linked to the body sensing lower blood sugar from the activity and then starting to go though a glucagon hormone cycle to raise blood sugar which wound up reducing the hunger. But maybe it is the effect that is mentioned in the article.

Thats literally not how fasting works, your body spikes absurdly high in ketones and HGH during fasts to prevent muscle loss. Any "muscle loss" during fasting is minimal and immediately regained upon refeeding, provided you eat enough protein and aren't fasting for absurdly long periods of time (we're taking 2+ weeks)

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34668663/
>>
>>76633571
the study you linked literally says that protein loss occurs but slows down
which means you lose muscle mass
which is obviously what happens because the brain cannot fully switch over to using ketones and still needs some protein no matter what

Wait I forgot I eat one cup of rice with my salmon so actually I have 1700 calories. I do the trick where you put in a teaspoon or 2 of oil while the rice is cooking and freezing it.

Yeah that's fine, the only thing to keep in mind is that pink salmon is the least fatty salmon there is. If you start feeling like shit then it's probably because you're not getting enough fat on this diet, try switching to eggs or 90/10 lean ground beef a few days of the week. Only if you're feeling bad though.

Also there's no downsides to excess protein in your diet, if your body can't use it then it will get shit / pissed out.

>>76634365
Fasting induces a shorter time period for the same amount of fat loss and, "if you do it right", also minimizes muscle loss. A calorie deficit is also detrimental for muscles, stretched out over a much longer period of time.

Even if you did lose more muscle (you don't) on a fast, the gain in time on the quick turnaround is enough to make it all back and then some.

Source: Personal experience. If calorie restriction works better for you then go ahead, but I've tried both multiple times and rolling 48 hour fasts has always resulted in more fat loss and less strength/muscle loss over the same time period. For me, it's what works best.

Nobody is suffering from too low of fat intake in 2025, and your body uses all the protein you eat, there's no Upper limit in one setting or one 24 hour period it just digest slow as fuck, whey is the fastest at 10g an hour and most whole foods digest at 6 grams an hour. We wouldn't be alive as a species if we pissed out excess protein, all the study's show aminos flowing in the blood stream for like 12 hours after a high protein meal. This is why intermittent fasting doesn't cause muscle loss, you eat 200g of protein at night and train fasted the next day and you are still digesting the protein all day until your next feeding window. The whole "excess protein gets pissed out" was started by a supplement company in the 90s who claimed 37g was the most that could be absorbed in one meal and low and behold they should protein powder with a 37g serving size kek. If you're interested in learning about protein you can pirate Lyle McDonalds protein book or just listen to the video that was just published on Solomon Nelsons channel with Lyle McDonald

This may be a retarded question but, every morning weigh in do you guys weigh yourselves butt nekkid or do you just make sure you're wearing something light like the shorts you wake up in for example, I feel like I'm frauding myself when I go from 74 to 73.1 just because I dropped the shorts, I know it isn't fat loss, just clothes

While the statement "there's no upper limit on protein" is a simplification, research suggests there isn't a strict upper limit for protein absorption for muscle building, but there are practical limits for utilization. Consuming very large protein doses, such as 100 grams, can lead to greater increases in muscle protein synthesis compared to smaller doses, but excess protein beyond your body's needs is stored as fat or used for other metabolic processes. However, factors like age, health conditions, and exercise intensity influence individual protein needs, and a qualified professional can help determine your optimal intake.
Key Takeaways:
Absorption vs. Utilization:
While your body can virtually absorb any amount of protein you consume, the amount used for muscle protein synthesis is what matters for building muscle.
Debunking the Myth:
The old idea of a strict 20-30 gram upper limit for protein absorption per meal has been largely debunked by recent research.
Larger Doses Can Be Effective:
Studies show that higher protein intake, even up to 100 grams in one meal, can stimulate greater muscle protein synthesis than smaller doses, especially when measured over longer periods (e.g., 12 hours).
Excess Protein is Stored:
Protein that isn't used for muscle building or other vital functions will be converted and stored as fat.

Again do you have a point? Idk why you're so riled up yung blud

Really hoping to be in the 120s by this Sunday. Didn't think I'd be able to do it when I weighed in at 134 earlier this week, but there was a very significant whoosh at some point and at weigh in today of 130.2kg, I should make it into the 120s by Sunday.

usually the clothes i wear while sleeping, i don't think it's enough of a weight difference to be significant
>>
>>76634702
I walk from my bedroom to the bathroom in just my dressing gown, usually having to pass my parents. Simplifies the nekkidness process. If I was smart, I'd just move the scale to my bedroom.

It's hard to get right but is great when it works. The stuff that doesn't taste like shit costs a lot though. I'm working on making my own but haven't gotten close to replicating the good ones I've tasted.
>>
>>76634702
The reality is it doesn't matter. Weight loss isn't a daily or even weekly thing. It's a monthly, yearly lifelong endeavor. Wearing clothes or not, drinking water or not, shitting or not none of that matters. You need to track your weight and only long amounts of time can show your true progress.
>>
>>76634792

When you lose weight, your body doesn't use the fat in a way that's optimal for fat storage.

Your fat redistributes after you've lost weight, leading to shape changes without weight changes.
>>
I live in the countryside, I like hiking, but I'm not sure that's enough to really lose weight (or maybe not fast enough). Would buying a few weights be a good idea, since I can't go to the gym (and don't really want to either)?
>>
>>76634854
Yes but walking isn't all about losing weight, it's good for the whole body. It builds stamina, it lets you get sunlight and fresh air. It's one of the best things you can do for a long life. People that regularly walk and remain healthy won't break down as easily in old age. Get some weights and do some lifting but it's not the be all end all. I encourage you to keep walking and even do more of it but just don't think it's going to magically make you skinny. Diet is still 90% of weight loss.
>>
>>76634825
The question wasn't what you're supposed to do, but what you do. 'Cause if you do that, it seems unnecessarily messy.
>>
>>76634902
How else are you going to track your bowel movements?
>>
>>76634902
the mess is worth it for consistency
if you arent pissing and shitting on the scale your weight will fluctuate
>>
do people really fast while also lifting? im so fucking hungry
>>
>>76634909
I usually check for blood in the bowl or on the paper, that's about the extent of my bowel analysis.
>>
>>76634915
its hard at first but you get used to it, need to supplement electrolytes to not lift like ass tho
>>
>>76634913
You can expel waste in the toilet, and that should be fine. Then you can just flush it away, and it's gone. For instance, I weigh myself naked after my morning piss, it really doesn't need to be on the scale for you to maintain consistency.
>>
>>76634858
>don't think it's going to magically make you skinny
I know, I know...
>Diet is still 90% of weight loss.
Yeah, my sister got a bypass and she lost a lot of weigh, I'm kinda jealous considering it's mostly due to her diet changes rather than exercising.
>>
>>76634932
not everyone has the golden butthole like you
shitting on the scale works for everyone
>>
>>76634937
why dont u also get a bypass
>>
>>76634943
Nah. You're just being a disingenuous faggot.
>>
>>76634937
Don't get a bypass, surgery is not the solution. You can do it just take little steps each day to improve. You don't have to become mr perfect overnight. Building good habits is the key, try to plan ahead of time as much as possible. Know what you are going to eat before you eat it.
And find some sort of reward and cope mechanism that isn't food. So when you feel or bad you won't turn to food to comfort you.
>>
No one is shitting on the scale, come on you guys. We're all adults here, why are you falling for such childish banter?
>>
>>76634963
enjoy ballooning up to an even fatter fuck because you cant measure your weight accurately
>>
>>76634944
I'm not as fat as she was, it took her like a year and an half to get approved for surgery and I'm pretty sure that in that time I could easily get to lose some weight (which would make me unable to get a bypass).
And having a bypass is a bother altogether.
>>76634964
>Don't get a bypass, surgery is not the solution
I totally agree, in her case I think it was a good solution but I'm sure I can do without.
>And find some sort of reward and cope mechanism that isn't food.
Well I have depression and the stuff I take makes apathetic and I can skip a day without eating easily.

Does anyone else start crying or freaking out after lifting? Is this at all normal?
I got abused a lot as a kid and I'm slowly losing weight (maybe it'll stick this time lol) and finally seriously lifting weights for the first time in my life. Every time I do a full effort workout (sometimes I give up when it starts getting hard) my suicidal urges come back bad and I remember shit and start crying. Not a woman.
