Unilateral is the new king.

functional movement/ fascial training scammers love this thread
>>
>>76683748
You must look great, post physique
>>
>>76683748
I love isolateral movements because my left arm is about an inch shorter than my right. But doing them one arm at a time is usually pointless, it just tires you out.
>>
>>76683748
>>76683830
There's no scam if you realize that unilateral is great for training motor firing patterns and restoring good standing posture issues, but bilateral lets you overload more weight for mechanical stimulus. It's not an either/or, do both.
>>
>>76684120
>isolateral
can a kinesiologyfag explain to me when to use
>unilateral
>isolateral
>ipsilateral
>homolateral
which seem to all have the same meaning
>>
>>76683748
Twice to time for the same work. This sucks so bad hope this is your job I can't imagine doing this unless I was paid hourly. Although I can definitely attest to it for chest isolation just because of the annoyance of having to try to cross cables.
>>
>>76684158
How do you "do both" guys ever get through a workout? I imagine you do so much bullshit trying to have it every which way your workout is endless or you just end up cutting out actually effective parts to make time for the crap.
>>
>>76684234
Do you primary work bilaterally and your assistance/volume work unilaterally. For example, heavy RDLs with a barbell and once you've pre exhausted your posterior chain, finish with 10 minutes of hand to hand kettlebell swings. Or heavy clean and press with a barbell and then assistance work dumbbell clean and press for something like 5 mins/side. Your really add only 10 mins or so because the point of those unilateral movements is to train your nervous system to fire the contralateral side to stabilize you and it doesn't take much time to do.
>>
>>76684216
>Twice to time for the same work
Doesn't matter, most of the time in gym is when you rest between sets. When you train right arm you can immediately train left arm, no need to wait.
>>
>>76684283
absolutely correct
>>
>>76684283
But it's not just this, you do everything since you can't critically evaluate. You stretch and do 'mobility work' right? You do low rep strength and high rep 'hypertrophy' work right? Your workouts probably take forever with all the crap you think you need to do
>>
>>76685311
>Your workouts probably take forever with all the crap you think you need to do
I do my sets between conference calls but total time is about an hour
>>
>>76685123
You're onto something.... Especially if you do slow and controlled reps
>>
>>76685647
Do you get anything actually useful done in that time? What is your squat and deadlift?
>>
>>76684162
Isolateral is basically a marketing term for fitness equipment, but it's become standardised to mean "equipment with arms that function independently so you can do unilateral or bilateral movements on it".
But people will still call something like a dumbbell press isolateral, which is technically incorrect but makes sense in context.

Unilateral specifically refers to the movement, of doing only one arm at a time.
Don't worry about ipsilateral, contralateral and homo(kek)lateral, they just mean "the same/opposite side" e.g. "the right hand is ipsilateral to the right foot".
>>
>>76684234
How about enjoying your workout instead of trying to min/max it?
>>
>>76685673
>muh squatz
>muh dedliff
just say you’re fat bro there’s no judgement here
>>
>>76686460
So you waste your time doing silly nonsense and don't actually lift, about what I figured

so the main objection is "time"?
that means there is no objection, cause u need 2 sets of isometric hold per muscle/movement 3 with warmup "set" which is few minutes in total lol

>noo u must lift big weights for reps for 6 to 12 sets in 2 to 3 movemnts
that's bullshit

>>76684158
>lets you overload more weight for mechanical stimulus
i don't want to, i want the mechanical tension and overload to land right smack in the muscle belly i am after AND NOWHERE ELSE :D
>>76683529
>>
I only have a pair of dumbbells at home, so I have to do unilateral exercises to load properly
if I had heavy barbells wouldn't bother tho
>>
>>76687411
Dumbells are stronger than barbell. Bigger ROM and more stabilizing muscles. Also cost half compared to barbell.
>>
New king
>>
>>76687538
Imagine how small this guy is
>>
>>76686350
How about I unilateral my foot up your ass
>>
>>76688039
Small but correct in what he says.
>>
>>76683748
>new
Unilateral was huge 100 years ago when people had national and international competitions that featured lifts like the bent press, single arm jerk, or two-hands anyhow. No need to reinvent the wheel.
>>
>>76689944
We need to bring it back.

unilateral is when you do it with one hand
isolateral is when you do it with both hands but one hand can do whatever
ipsilateral is when you use one side, but both leg and arms for an exercise
homolateral is anytime you my fellow poster is training
