Do you have to target your abs if you lift heavy on the normal lifts?

I feel like single arm rows, chinups and the heavy compounds target abs plenty

This is true. You only need to engage the core properly (something most people don't know how).
Do not expect to have a notorious six-pack tho.

I think the answer is no, for most people. If you get massively strong and hypertrophy your upper body and legs, especially doing co mpounds, the transmission that conencts the force tot he resistance is the torso and the abs are the muscles that grow stronger to do so. Get lean enough and theyre there.

I never see anybody with a massive upper body, massive lower body and no abs. If that guy exist, then maybe he needs to specialize. Most lazy powerlfiters, if/wehn they doiet down, have great abs for this reson.

I myself NEVER do abs and am a shitty, shitty old powerlifter (lifetime bests 485, 375, 550) but my abs are thick and visible, when I am under 20% bodyfat. In a weird way, my abs are my best bodypart (although its probably my back). But my arms and legs are relatively skinny.

Most people aren't going to get massively strong or ever reach powerlifting levels. Yes, if you're lifting advanced weight for your compounds, you'll have a strong core, but if you care about having abs, targeting them is a much better way and grows them much more quickly.

Have you seen this work? I mean, most people I have ever seen with good abs are ALSO quie muscular overall, OR high performing athletics who have superior genetics anyway (like fighters and some sprinters/runners). They all have very lean bodyfat.

Can a guy with just average genetics "hack" the system and hypertrophy abs without becoming muscular elsewhere first? Im not saying its impossible, just that it seems rare.

What kind of core do you wanna build? You can do abs like once a week or 2 its systematically fatiguing. I like back and front squats to thicken it with heavy obliques dls too but thats forearms.

Just do hands behind the head and far out, and heavy weight on chest and obliques, cable crunches too just cheat the rep. Leg raises windshield wipers only go so far, dragonflags i guess i hate trying hard and high reps that shits retarded and builds lactic acid. Uh stiff arm pushdowns, pull overs, strict presses like put the weight on abs military press especially like on a flat bench, push through like a prowler ill assume you wanna have serratus and a wider upper core that shits legit. Incline and flat is harder to nail it but mid and lower abs are easy im trying to get a y taper fuck a v taper.
