Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.

Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

big buffet at work yesterday. everyone ate until their stomachs nearly ruptured. i tried hard to mitigate the damage by loading my plate up with veggies and salad and light appetizers but i didn't succeed in eating a sensible amount either. at best, i was the least bad of the bunch. only three servings of dessert while everyone else took a bunch home and i declined. feeling okay today despite the higher number on the scale. i'm proud of myself for not going absolutely hog-wild like i would have in the past.

i think i've cracked the code.
i've been low carb+counting 1,500 calories for 2 weeks and i've never once went above my calory limit even when i rage and eat candies and chips.
many days i went with 1200 calories.
i keep the candies and potato chips to just before sleep so i'm sleeping while the sugar crash strikes.
if i stick to low carb, hunger is very manageable.
eating carbs during the day results in suffering much like the posts i see here.
i think i'm going to make it this time!

Finally crossed the 90 kg, only one more week to go until vacations. Really hope I can keep going to the gym during that time at least. The weight loss is starting to feel normal. The switch to high meat / fat, cheese and eggs and some fruits is starting to feel normal. I think I could even do this long term, without falling back to pig behaviour.
