Yes, spinlock dumbbell accepts normal 10lb/5kg iron plates, like for a barbell. For 80 dollars you can get around 25-30kg (55-66lb). This is enough for arms and shoulders, but won't be enough for DB rows. You can buy heavier for more money, or just buy more plates later.

You do on two heavy strong chairs or tables. If you don't have such, you will have to buy pull up + dip station, will be much more than 20$ for pull up bar, but still not expensive.

That dumbbell is spinlock. original set was 15kg for 34 euros, 5kg plates cost almost more than the rest, in theory it can go to 25kg, but 500g microplates are leaving very little space for the star collar.

I am doing WEIGHTED calisthenics, but they are not good for everything, you need dumbbell for some exercises like:
* lateral raises
* curls
* triceps extension
* shoulder press
You can also use plates for weighted calisthenics.

Why not just paralleletes, a backpack to hold weight, then some Olympic rings? The weight doesn't even have to be plates just anything heavy. You can make paralleletes tall enough to do rows or you could get into position from your knees and do pull ups. Takes up really minimal space and super cheap. I've been interested into getting a cheap home gym again lately since I lost everything. I have a calisthenics tower left over, some golds gym brand pushup handles, two dumbbells, Olympic rings, jumprope, and a shitty treadmill my gf got for free. I want to make my own weights out of concrete, reinforce them with rebar and fiberglass, coat them in maybe truck liner. Recently saw a video of some calisthenics guy using pulleys and his rings to help add variation to his movements. I was also considering using leverage to adjust weight in certain movements to help manage progressive overload while also cheaping out more on weight in the meantime.

I like calisthenics but pushing weight is more fun and more easily tracked. I would kill for a rowing machine but I'm good with a jumprope in the meantime.

If you're trying to save money just do pull ups and dips at the local playground on the monkey bars. However if you're trying to get results in the long term, nothing replaces proper equipment. Especially for leg training.

Someone who actually gets strong with legs will not get anywhere close to any meaningful stimulus from pistol squats. And then what are you going to do for hamstrings and calves? Rectus femoris? Sure there's sissy squat but that's nowhere as good as a proper leg extension machine. Nordic curls are cool and all, but you're absolutely not starting out with them. Body weight and whatever small amount of weight you can get for $80 is nowhere near enough to train calves even for a beginner doing one leg calf raises.

The problem with dips is that they are fairly incomplete for pec and shoulder training. Shoulders and pecs need to be worked from different angles. Same thing with the back. Pull ups and Dips only will leave you with incomplete development. Moreover you need significant poundage for weighted dips and pull ups anyways. Something like 3-4 pl8s which tend to be at least $1/lb and a belt. And then we have the fact of the matter that forearm and upper arm development is often lacking in those who only do compounds. It's a fairly rare person who grows evenly from them.

Might as well just fork out the $20-30 a month for a gym membership with decent machines and all the equipment you'll ever need if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a home gym.

Pistol squats are very heavy and a dumbbell is enough to load them, your body weight and dumbbell is going to only one leg.

You start with one leg deadlift with a dumbbell.

Wear a backpack and put 45lb/20kg of concrete, then one leg elevated calf raises. If weight is not enough then also add a dumbbell to your hand.

This is why I also recommend dumbbell, dumbbell lets you do isolations like curls, triceps extension, shoulders. For forearm, you can do weighted dead hangs on pull up bar.

~6 months of a gym membership
Use all the machines add 2.5 lbs - 5 lbs a session until you either can't or have maxed the machine.
Switch to free weights for that movment group and keep trying to go up. Once you're stuck on all your stuff you'll know exactly how much weight you need to homegym effectively.

Do not skip this you have no idea how fast you put on leanmass by just adding weight in high stability movments.

You could just go another six months. Or start buying shit off Craigslist and Facebook as the opportunities present themselves (there will be many). There's no reason to pay retail for weights but you will need to do something in the meantime. Also don't fall for the Olympic bar autism there's a lot of stuff out there that isn't and will work fine for any sub 400lb lift.
Also do look for racks and a cable set ups. Way better than spin locks and has a much higher celing and breadth of compatibility even if the initial investment is a bit higher.

Ahh thanks bro, I'm still in decent health, its kind of inevitable for us as we age. I hit 18 miles on the mountain bike today, with almost 2000ft elevation. So I'm still active, I just don't spend 6 days a week in the gym anymore.
