Don't know why you'd assume it because it's a powerlifting thing and only recently widespread. It also completely solves the problem because the rom when they're retracted doesn't require them to move. I don't think you tried it, really.

I swapped out my CGBP for close grip incline due to lack of upper chest and made solid gains.

I think barbell bench + incline(dumbell or barbell) is ideal.
