>Who is /fat/ for?
For dairy digesters working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
Eat more meat.
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros) or LoseIt (great for both).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 1g per lb of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and burn fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body burning away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat hyper-processed foods.
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

anyone got tips for cooking in a deficit? some anon said i cant cook for shit and it made me realise ive just been throwing around simple ingredients together and setting them out on a plate to eat

Im just worried actually "cooking" would involve using more oil and other shit which would increase calories in general

Bros, I'm back at my parent's home for the holidays and it dawned on me that it's officially been 5 years since I started my fitness journey. I haven't been obese for 2 years. It's been such a crazy ride. It's gotten to the point where I look at the old picture of me being obese with nostalgia rather than self loathing. There is hope to keep the weight off long term. You might even get to go on bulks and eat like a fat person again if you commit to lifting hard and cutting afterwards. Its only gotten easier to cut after each bulk compared to losing that 100 pounds the first time.

Any of you anons every try fasting for a week?

Doing well man.
>>
>>76876401
That doesn't seem accurate. Activity levels are usually for more active general lifestyles (like being a bricklayer vs a programmer).
It's often a good idea to just list it as low activity, and then manually add activity calories back in (or even better, automatically from a smartwatch).

Oh, I'm aware, I don't use vision for weight estimating, I weigh manually, gork just helpes with recipes and calorie tracking. It seems pretty okay at tracking things if I give it the ingredients and the weights. 4 is better than 4.1 at it, though

Tbh the primary reason I use gork is I have twitter on my phone so it's there and it's free, copilot is free gpt 5.1 but only on windows
>>
>>76876459
Nah, this is really not a healthy or sustainable approach at high activity levels. I'm not going to do a 20km run and just eat the same as normal. It's okay if you're lifting a couple of times a week, but not much more than that.
>>
>>76876483
okay but if you're the type to do 20km runs you don't need dieting advice from /fit/
>>
>>76876488
Sure, I come here to help other people on the same journey. But one of the main goals in weight loss is to create sustainable habits that you can maintain for the rest of your life. And if you take the approach that "any exercise is a bonus", then at one point you'll have to make a hard shift. And it isn't super straightforward, so you should practice that mental calculation during the whole process.
>>
>>76876491
what do you think of the 80/20 "80% should be diet, 20% should be cardio" approach to weight loss? Too unfairly weighted against cardio?
>>
>>76876491
while that's true, it's very difficult to get an accurate estimate of calories burned during exercise from any of the calculators or smartphone apps and they are very often far off target. it's much simpler and more accurate to just assume that exercising burns no calories and stick to your fucking deficit. the people in this thread aren't elite bodybuilders trying to win mr. universe, they're fat people trying to fix their relationship with food. there's nothing sadder than seeing a person making great progress on their diet completely fail because they trusted some dumb app that told them they just burned 1000 calories walking on the treadmill.
>>
>>76876508
>Too unfairly weighted against cardio?
Mother fucker how much cardio are you doing? You want to do more than 20% of your TDEE in cardio rather than just cutting calories?
>>
>>76876451
ask for the coño picante de camarera
>>
>>76876508
I don't think cardio for weight loss is really all that helpful, because in my experience it just makes you hungry and you end up eating more calories than you actually burned. Especially if you're eating carbs before, during and after like you need to for the longer distances.
So in that sense, 80/20 seems fine. Because cardio is a healthy habit to get into for long term health, but it won't form the basis of your weight loss.

>>76876518
I agree, it's incredibly hard to get an accurate estimate. That's why it's a good idea to start early, because you get better at the mental calculations over time. For example I find that when I'm just eating intuitively I REALLY overestimate the calories from hard runs but I'm much more accurate with easy runs. But when I'm not actively cutting I'm just doing mental maths about my calories, and I test and adjust over the space of weeks and months.

assuming this anon cooked that meat himself and boiled the cabbage along with the other vegetables, explain to me why this isn't "cooking"

does cooking mean having to dress everything up and slot it together so it all looks like a neat dish on a single plate? is that what people generally mean when they say they know how to cook? cus that sounds fucking gay, i consider what anon did cooking, at least the perfectly basic tier
>>
>>76876341
>I don't think fasting is possible when you live with others unless they're also into fitness
How?
Counting calories I can understand since you either also have to cook for them or they cook for you which makes things more complicated then when you live on your own, but with fasting you just don't eat period
>>
>>76876277
Acquire an airfryer, lets you have crispy food without drowning it in oil
>>

I mean, you can't really cook a salad. A salad is stuff cut and thrown on a plate with salt, oil and vinegar.
You're fine. If you're really worried about stuff, you could look into marinading your chicken. But if you're seeing results, you're fine.

You're in a weight loss thread. People should not eat extra for the exercise they did. That's literally throwing progress away.
If you can do 20kms runs, what you do with yourself has nothing to do with what fat people should do with themselves, at least for a few years. That's advice for marathon runners.

depends on the brand, some add a lot of filler to bump up the weight (water, breadcrumbs, potato starch and shit). some add seed oil (massively bumps up the calories). some even add sugar too. so always check the ingredients first.
I just buy mince and make them myself or buy the pre-made 100% beef patties from my local butcher for convenience.

I try not to buy too many new clothes for the same reason, they only last a short while before you have to change them again. I plan on literally throwing out 95% of my clothes once I reach my goal weight. I'll probably wear small sized shirts and 30 inch waste pants (or less?).

Anons should really try keto or carnivore. I don't get why it has such a stigma, but it just fucking works. Especially carnivore. I lost about 100lbs (290 to 190 at 5'11") through pure starvation. I did the whole CICO thing but I just ended up cutting more and more food until the scale moved. By the time I got to 190 I felt dogshit and lost a lot of muscle. I would often be so hungry at night that I couldn't sleep.
I eventually tried keto and I was able to get down to about 180 or so but I was still pretty hungry. I did Paul Saladino's retarded fruity diet and I was horribly constipated and had major blood sugar crashed.
Then I just cut out all of the fruit and only ate red meat. And it just worked. I went from 195 to 175 in about 5 months, I'm never hungry, I eat until I am absolutely full every single day in one big meal and I just go about my day. No longer have constipation, no longer have to weight or estimate "calories". Fuck, it's even cheaper in the long run since I barely have to go to the supermarket and I can buy meat in bulk. I still do not understand why it hasn't caught on more.

Carnivore is the ACK-diet. Keto can work if you only eat chicken and fish but most people just eat bacon with butter.
Also the best possible way to lose weight is retatrutide right now. With it you can eat like shit and still lose weight but make sure you exercise and eat protein with it or you end up like this guy >>76877354 here.

Longitudinal Data From the KETO-CTA Study: Plaque Predicts Plaque, ApoB Does Not

The median change in NCPV was 18.9 mm3 (IQR: 9.3-47.0 mm3) and the median change in PAV was 0.8% (IQR: 0.3%-1.7%). Neither change in ApoB (median 3 mg/dL, Q1-Q3: −17 to 35 mg/dL), baseline ApoB, nor total LDL-C exposure (median 1,302 days, Q1-Q3: 984-1,754 days) were associated with the change in noncalcified plaque volume (NCPV) or TPS. Bayesian inference calculations were between 6 and 10 times more supportive of the null hypothesis (no association between ApoB and plaque progression) than of the alternative hypothesis. All baseline plaque metrics (coronary artery calcium, NCPV, total plaque score, and percent atheroma volume) were strongly associated with the change in NCPV.

wrong lol
>>

Plaque is not made out of sugar particles but out of cholesterol deposits. You can drive inflammation to near 0 (see the LMHR study) but with high enough LDL-C/apoB you will still have plaque formation ongoing.

You can't ethically exert enough control on human populations for studies to be anything other than hypothesis generating anyway.
My n=1 experience and the n=1 experience of others on the exact same diet completely invalidates all of human nutrition science which is mostly funded by Coca-cola and Pfizer.

This was not the primary outcome of the study btw. The primary outcome was that ketards had similar plaque formation as diabetics. But because the ketard authors didn't like that result they looked at subgroups where there was no meaningful difference between an LDL-C of 200mg/dL and 300mg/dL anymore which can be explained away by the subgroups having too few people.

Anyone who's tried keto or carnivore knows for a fact it works wonderfully for EVERYTHING. Health, being slim, gaining muscle, etc.
The people who shit-talk it usually are the ones that seethe because they don't have the willpower to give up carbs and carb-rich junk food.

>I still do not understand why it hasn't caught on more.
It has gained a lot of popularity and many doctors online are recommending it, but the establishment will always promote plant-based diets for political reasons.
Look up Anthony Chaffee MD on youtube, he's the #1 at debunking all the lies about "needing" carbohydrates.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ihJDXwOnpxM
Our body doesn't even make the right kind of insulin to deal with carbohydrates. That's why we get sugar crashes.
Our insulin is designed to deal with the increase of blood sugar caused by consuming too much protein.
Diabetics have to be given a different kind of insulin that we don't produce that actually matches the sugar spike caused by carbs.

That alone proves that we are biologically not meant to consume ANY carbs, even from fruit.

Over a 1-year prospective study of 100 persons exhibiting extreme carbohydrate restriction-induced elevations in LDL-C and ApoB, NCPV increased by 18.9 mm3 (IQR: 9.3-47.0 mm3). In an exploratory analysis, changes in and baseline levels of ApoB were not associated with changes in NCPV or TPS as measured by CCTA. However, baseline CAC and other plaque metrics were positively associated with increases in coronary plaque, supporting the notion that plaque predicts plaque but ApoB does not.

>>76877400
Yes and blood is the first part of the body that suffers glycation damage when consuming excess carbohydrates or having replete substrate. You damage the endethelial lining with high blood sugar and glycated blood cells, which tear the lining and then your body releases LDL in response to repair said lining as well as Platelets, Neutrophils, Monocytes, proteins, muscle cells, T-cells and I'm sure a whole bunch of other shit. Funny how no other part of the repair system gets demonized except for a single type of cholesterol carrier.

As I said, subgroup anaylsis. 18.9mm3 increase is nearly diabetic-tier bad and twice as high as the authors initially expected.
But because the ketard authors wanted to save face, they did a subgroup analysis and just ignored the primary outcome.

Your post tries to make up mechanisms but the LMHR study itself proves (despite the authors trying to spin a diabetic-tier bad result away), beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it is apoB, not sugar-damaged cell walls, which are primarily responsible for plaque formation.

in case you haven't done more than 5 minutes of research, all nutritional studies are like that. There's no funding for any of this shit, which is why all studies are short term and low sample size.

>>
>>76877410
There is good reason to not shill keto, and that is because it requires so much willpower.
Someone on keto can maintain it for a long time, but the issue is slipping up becomes all the more detrimental. Someone could get a taste of any more normal food by that point and start thinking "Oh, I'm fine now" and complete erode the base for their diet entirely over the course of a week.

It's why, for general weight loss, CICO is advised. It gives a firm number you have to stay under. CICO isn't as fast, and obviously not as health minded, but it won't cause people to crash as hard as they would if they fuck up keto.

Nta but what they did was tell ketards who get very high LDL cholesterol on a keto diet to go keto-only for a year and measure plaque formation. The plaque formation was nearly twice as much as that of your average American and almost as bad as that of diabetics. The authors (famous youtube ketards themselves) then did a subgroup analysis (while disregarding the primary outcome) to somehow show that there wasn't a meaningful difference between super high LDL cholesterol and super duper high LDL cholesterol.

And because it's a retarded survey, and "keto" isn't even a singular defined diet, and because you can't control for any other of the millions of covariates, known and unknown, and it's associative data at best, it goes into the trash. You misunderstand here dude, my brother is so balls to the wall retarded that instead of stopping and thinking that the reason this might be happening is because there might be a deficency in his body or a string of actions on his side that might be provoking things, he panicked the fuck out and started to take fin and min without consulting ANYBODY and taking things on his hands (like most zoomies do).
