Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 1g per lb of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and burn fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body burning away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

I suggest you start with any type of bodyweight excercises at home now. Neural adaptation will take time, doing something now gives you a headstart for the gym phase. You also lose more weight, raise hormones and start training tendons and soft tissue. Makes everything faster and keeps you more motivated. Recomp at your weight is really easy.

Now I intend to chill, lose whatever weight, and sustain it forever. I'm getting old and wasted most of my adult life but trying to speedrun this shit is just gonna lead to me failing again. I'm also hoping this strategy will be more resilient to difficult circumstances like losing a relative or a job or whatever.

I did a similar foodloop with eggs and beans, ate it every day for over a year. 9 months ago I supplemented it with minestrone. When the whole 3 gallon batch was done I'd make something like stroganov for a week to give me a break, then make another minestrone.

One of my fav soups is ground beef soup with tomato & cream, a really good bulk or heavy training food, but not the best for fat loss. Another one I don't make nearly often enough is Italian potato bacon soup, but that's really calorie dense.

really not trying to take any medications, I don't think it's a depressive episode or anything, just a realization that what I thought I enjoyed I only REALLY enjoyed while eating shitty food.

I know once I hit my weight loss goal (12-18 months from now) I'll be able to reintroduce some of those foods on a very moderate basis which will be nice, so there is a "light at the end of the tunnel" so to speak. It's just so far away it can feel demoralizing

14 weeks, went from 210 to 170 (5'7). Started at about 30% BF and down to 19ish%. Leanest and smallest I've been in years. I was considering continuing through the rest of the year but my mental and physical fatigue is too much, and it realistically would've only gotten to me to 168. The process was quite difficult but I think it was worth it in the end. I ran over 240 miles, stationary biked over 400 miles, consistently lifted and consumed on average 1600-2000 calories per day (160g protein minimum) during the cut. I was basically sedentary, though I was able to improve my 5K time from 48ish minutes to 26:05. I am not at the point of abs though I'm more then comfortable enough now to be in public shirtless.

The worst part of the cut was the mental aspect. There were times I needed to take breaks physically, though mental fatigue was the biggest killer. I would not recommend going on as extreme a cut I did (about 3lbs per week) unless you are ready for the difficulty.

The TDEE I got from the link in the OP is 3,209 at a sedentary lifestyle (I get about 5k steps a day as an office worker) so I've been eating between 1700 and 2000 calories depending on the day.

I'm really not a fan of fasts, since they're not feasible long term, and they're more of a way of avoiding the lessons you ought to be learning. Plus you need energy and nutrients to spend more energy. "Spend money to make money."

I'd suggest you to start with a 1500-1700 kcal daily diet with IF 16:8. Do 60-80min of HR zone 2 cardio each morning in a fasted state (no milk or sugar in coffee, have it plain black). That will start awakening your cardiovascular and central nervous systems. It will burn a lot of fat given your weight.

I'd also suggest you start with either basic calisthenics or buy/loan a simple set of dumbells, you can do the basic beginner routines with those just fine. The aim at the start is neural adaptation, tendon and soft tissue strength. Muacles will get trained and starter definition will come as an added bonus, but the aim is to get you ready for gym.

Rest is as important as the workouts. You can even overtrain yourself with cardio, so one of the key things is to learn to read your body signals. Any injury postpones things by weeks/months, so stable progress is important.

Since you don't have a kitchen in use, is it possible for you to go to a friends' place to do a big batch of some food you can freeze in portions & reheat using the microwave? I myself am a fan of soups in that regard, and I get most of my protein from dairy, quark to be specific.

Calisthenics should be your best option for starting workouts. All you need for that is space. Planks, knee push-ups & the lot. Use negatives (returns) to build up your strength. Don't lose motivation at first if they feel hard, once you get your first push-up in you'll suddenly be doing ten, then 20, then 50. Just how it goes. And as you lose weight it'll start getting easier.

For using an airfryer, I think the ribeye turned out pretty ok. Probably a bit more medium than I wanted, and it was tough to get a good sear, but quite tasty.

Last night I went to the bar and had diet cokes and a basket of fries plus 2 mozzarella sticks. Had no idea how many calories but pretty sure it blew out my 800 cal budget. So I did my stair stepper for 45 minutes because I saw thats what all mass monster era bodybuilders were doing. Ronnie coleman, jay culter, others. Grok is telling me that at my weight (240) and at 52 steps a minute I burned around 450 calories today. Even if I round that down to 400 thats pretty fucking good. I can do 45 minutes of stairmaster every day.
