Who is /fat/ for?
For the french fry fans who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros) or LoseIt (great for both).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

They’re 12in (860cal) and the crust is made with cauliflower. A little extra fiber too.

I know in the long run it's fine to have a rare day where I lose control and eat over maintenance as long as I still stick to my diet overall but I still feel guilty for doing so.

This week was just hardcore exercise and weightlifting. F man I started off today with a meal of chicken breast and rice. Was good but was hungry af all day. For dinner, I decided to get government-supply cheeseburger and a tiny bag of Doritos. Still feel hungry af. I could eat two or three cheeseburgers with my desire. It sucks bros what do? Drink water?

>>
>>76997247
You don't need any oil. Beef renders fat naturally. You can even cook it in a pan that isn't non-stick and you'll be fine. You also don't need to add mayonnaise. I know you are the same guy from yesterday who made like 900 calorie protein pancakes when an average protein pancake recipe tops out at like 400 max. You really need to rein in your use of calories and develop better habits. I'm not mocking you. I'm just trying to help you out here. Having the mentality that you have to fry one of the fattiest meats in oil and absolutely have to add mayonnaise because it's a burger is not a healthy mindset. It makes no sense to get rid of a hundred calories of bun if you're just gonna slather the thing in pure fat.

until hallucinations are eliminated, you'll need to double check everything it generates.
it's so fucking tiring.
but AI does have its uses.
like asking it about things you have absolutely no idea about so it'll point you in the right direction or looking up very specific things that a regular search engine fails to pull for you.
>>
>>76997394
>until hallucinations are eliminated, you'll need to double check everything it generates
that's half the tardwrangling, the other half is setting up the prompt correctly

the accuracy on the calculations themselves are usually pretty good but it likes to hallucinate meals between days if you don't tell it not to

Up exactly 1lb from yesterday, but choosing to celebrate a non-scale victory instead of freaking out about it.
My favorite pair of pants is starting to fit me more like a person and less like a pile of lard squeezed into some fabric. Can’t wait until I fit into my favorite jeans again. I did “fit into” them at 160lbs, but I looked best and felt most comfortable at 140lbs.
Another victory is that I’m feeling more mobility in my legs after getting used to movement and losing some of the swelling around my knees (lipedema)

If my scale is to be believed, I’m down about 14lbs in muscle mass compared to 1.5 years ago. But I’m heavier too. So less muscle doing more work.

2026 is the year I get strong enough to carry my kids for as long as they want again.

Stop doing meme workouts and neglecting protein intake.

>>
>>76998792
How the fuck is this 203 pounds. Looks like maybe 180.
>>
>>76998882
Not neglecting protein anymore, but paying the price for doing it earlier.

Also, Pilates isn’t a meme workout imo. It’s an accessible, low impact way of moving for people with chronic pain and joint instability like myself.

I was my fittest, most mobile, in the least amount of pain, plus looked my best when I was doing mat Pilates at home every day and studio classes 1-2x/month to get form corrections as I learned new exercises.

Pilates gave me back my ability to do some of the things I loved after becoming physically disabled, and sticking with it was what made me feel the best.

105kg at 196cm. Not too bad, my arms and legs are skinny but i have big man boobs and a visible stomach. Also fatty face a bit. Started diet this year. My habbit is to have at least one sugar soda at night when gaming (usually red bull). In addition every night one kind of candies like a pack of Haribo, pringles, etc. Doing this for years so this is the biggest pain to stop for me. I feel so empty by skipping these. Incredible sugar lust. I try to fill my stomach with bananas instead but it doesn't really fullfil the desire. Hope that stops soon.

Also too much processed food, that's probably the main reason for my weight. Frozen pizzas, frozen nuggets, mcdonalds, etc. Not even that much in amount each time though. But i started cooking myself now, still looking for quick recipes. Eating lots of rice with cooked broccoli and can tuna or other canned fishes. Kinda tasty.

No, I was born with it. My siblings, kids, and dad are the same. It’s harmless, but I showed the pediatrician and it’s from the pinkie toe tendon being a bit too short. Perhaps some form of physical therapy carried out over a long period of time could lengthen the tendon, but it hasn’t bothered me more than the odd comment in my 24 years of existence.

Yeah I have a hard time believing the total calories portion, even the active parts seems like a stretch. It was a lot of uphill walking, but I'm just trying to figure out to what degree the accuracy is. i trust ai to teach me programming concepts, answer my obscure computer questions, banter with me about movie fan theories, help me understand anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics, but NEVER weight loss. ai is AWFUL for weight loss because all it can tell you is normie-friendly reddit-tier advice within arbitrary (and deeply flawed) government guidelines.

if you want to lose weight, you need the secret esoteric knowledge possessed by a few anons that lurk this thread and haunt the wider forum in other /fit/ threads. it's the only place to find the truth.

ai will never take a risk when it comes to your health. it will always error on the side of caution. it will never consider that you're better off doing a strict (dangerous?) cut instead of staying a disgusting fatass forever, and that's what most people do.

i could see it working for some people if they really understood its limitations and didn't ask too much from it. asking how many calories is in different foods is a good place to start with ai but i take the 'advice' it gives with a grain of salt. it's usually the stuff it scraped from reddit and it shows.

i agree with you. i love ai but i don't want it to have anything to do with my diet, exercise, or meal planning. it will agree with whatever bullshit you say to it if you bully it even just a little. watch it freak out if you tell it you're going to eat 10 eggs for breakfast but then explain your reasoning and it will agree with you, even if thinks what you're doing is unsafe. the problem is that it will still nag you with cookie-cutter solutions that don't fit your specific goals and anything you're doing that defies common knowledge is going to set off its alarm bells. it also forgets important information even if you keep repeating it. fasting- for instance- is a perfectly reasonable way to get into an extreme deficit overnight but since there are inherent risks it's going to be overly cautious and try to steer you away from that idea. but you can just bully it a bit and it will back down and agree with you.

ai is spineless. that's one of its biggest problems.

You’re not wrong, even 4chan advice when it comes to weight loss is too tame, people in here will freak out if I tell them I lost 30lbs in a month doing 1500cal cut and only eating 700-800cal a day of literally chicken breast and boiled eggs every single day.
I went from 160lbs to 130lbs in a month without glp1s, was lifting and doing cardio 5x, got to my goal weight and now I’m just maintaining.
I think cutting slowly is the biggest waste of time, the longer ur cut takes the biggest are the chances you’ll fail it or binge.
My advice for you and everyone in here? Just do whatever the fuck you can to get to ur goal weight, if dry fasting, fasting, keto, carnivore, vegan, sugar diet works for you then just do it.
Taking 6 months to a year for something that can be done in 1-2 months is fucking stupid, what worked for me was kind of a psmf/keto/carnivore hybrid? I don’t even know
>>
AI got me on this "latest science" diet plan

>25 % BF (loss of 1% of bodyweight a week)
20–25 % BF (0,8%)
15–20 % BF (0,7%)
<15 % BF (0,5%)

According to it if you lose weight faster below 25% you can lose muscle mass, and it cited some studies to support these rates.

It's also got me on 1,2g / kg of BW of protein a day because of diet and my 1000 calorie deficit and 20k steps a day.

These are the advices it gave me and they don't seem so bad.
>>
>>76999532
I don’t believe the loss is that big, when I cut down to 1kg/wk I looked bigger actually and was done with my cut faster, even roiders can’t avoid this, most of the time isn’t even muscle mass ur losing but just water retention on ur muscles, this is what happens when ur bulked and bloated sniffing on creatine

Why is sugar so bad for weight loss?
>>
>>76999711
Foods high in sugar, specifically added or refined, tend to spike dopamine when you eat them. This can lead you to seek out that feeling, or even become addicted to it. And much like any other addiction, it’s never as “good” as the first time. So your body craves higher and higher doses more frequently.

Also, sugars are the easiest for your body to break down and convert into energy. This why glucose gels during a long distance run are popular and even beneficial when your body needs it, but at other times that energy from sugar is expended quickly, leading to you feeling hungry again later. Compared to having a meal high in protein, you’d feel hungrier much sooner since your body is taking less time to digest the sugary treat, even if it’s higher in calories (energy content).
>>
>>76999711
it spikes your blood sugar and insulin levels. makes you feel good right after you eat it but then a couple hours later you experience intense hunger. basically eating sugary stuff makes you crave more sugary stuff. when you cut out almost all sugars, you stop getting these bullshit hunger signals, want to eat less frequently, and can eat smaller portions and stay full longer. cutting out sugar is the easiest way lower your daily calorie intake.

but it's not easy to go cold turkey and just stop eating sugar entirely. what i do is grab a single small bar of dark chocolate from the store when i start craving something sweet after a week or two of abstaining. i don't eat any other sweets when i'm dieting though.
>>
>>76999748
>>76999754
Got it, but eating a bit of sugar here and there, aside from the calories & cravings, doesn't have any *real* impact on weight loss?

is ''granny'' the ''gonblixn'' lady that gets spammed

>Matthew 16:6-12
Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we haven't eaten the Eucharist lately. Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have yet to eat bread? Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? Then understood they how that he bade them not beware eating the wrong bread, but of the DOCTRINE of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees."

Can anyone recommend me a dermaroller for my small amount of loose skin? I'm paralysed by choice on them.

Lettuce wrapped burgers are stupid imo.
The only purpose of iceberg lettuce is its crunchy texture but it loses that when heated up. Use cabbage as wrapping. Look up gołąbki, traditional Polish dish - rice and ground meat wrapped in cabbage. Can simply use more meat and less rice.
Other kinds of lettuce can work as a substitute, especially the "frilly" ones, like the roman recommended by one anon, those are sturdier.

Don't use oil for ground beef, as others have mentioned. Many meats have more than enough fat to not require adding extra.
Mayo kills the taste of the burger imo. Meat is best when lightly seasoned, salt and pepper are all you need.

This guy makes good homemade recipes for lower calorie / higher protein versions of dishes which don't sacrifice the flavor, quite the contrary. The important part is he makes an effort to understand why specific dish tastes good without overly criticizng them and how to replicate or improve them while following crucial concepts, instead of merely listing substitutes or going for some fads.

Every man I know who doesn't workout at the gym has at least a niche exercise that they do at home week after week. It may target one or two muscles but that's their exercise. For someone they might have weights and target biceps and do curls only, others have a bench press and target pecs / triceps, others might do pushups, others situps.

I find this fascinating, it's like they don't want to workout at the gym multiple days targetting multiple muscles but will target perhaps 1 main muscle and become strong there. They might be doing this exercise alone for 10+ years.

I do max pushups sets two days a week. Anyone else has a niche exercise?

Ease into it. Don’t try to go from mega fatass eating xl pizzas and gallons of ice cream to super strict <1k cal of lettuce and chicken. Start by eliminating soda, swapping a daily sandwich for a salad, that kind of thing.

Rule of thumb is it takes about 2 weeks to form a habit. If you make it that long you can do it for years.

The trick is to not think of it as dieting. Approach it from completely different angle. If you try losing weight just to be less fat and force yourself to eat less, you will almost certainly fail sooner or later, unless you have the mind of steel. Quitting after three days is very weak to be fair but there's millions of people who fail after a week, two, even three months and revert to previous spot or worse regardless.

What you want to do is focus on building muscle. You can start small with adjustable set of dumbbells if you don't want a gym membership. Can buy entry level stuff really cheap.
What is needed to build muscle? Protein. What are the best sources of protein? Meat, eggs, dairy. Build your diet around those products. That's it, I don't expect you to do anything else. Just make sure your meals have one of those three food groups as the focus.

That alone is already enough. Why does it work? Because protein is considered more satiating by your body. It sends different signals, has different hormonal response. Too much fat makes youfeel gross. Carbs, especially processed sweets, make you feel hungry soon after. Protein rich meal keeps you satiated for several hours and you simply stop feeling the urge to eat more. That's the magic, it happens by itself.
>>
I weighed in today and found I'm down 10lbs (190.6 today, previously weighed in weeks ago at 200lbs). I'm not sure how I lost so much, my diet may have gotten a little better and I did get the flu last week but I haven't worked out in weeks.
>>
>>77001088
Next thing to think about is the fact too much meat can cause constipation. Combat it by eating a lot of vegetables which are rich in fiber. Meat + veggies based diet will keep you full longer. Both biologically and physically, veggies simply take up a lot of space filling your stomach, meat sends signals to your body that you got enough nutrition and don't need to refill anytime soon. You don't have to avoid carbs, keep eating rice or pasta or whatever, just make protein (and fiber) the priority.

Those two steps are a lot more realistic that trying to stick to some retarded fad diet. You can eat beef, pork, chicken, duck, fish, seafood. Breasts, thighs, ribs, tenderloin. Doesn't matter, mix and choose by your own preference. Just make sure it isn't all sausages and bacon (can still eat some, don't worry). For some of the fattier meats, you don't need to use oil to fry them, keep that in mind.

If you're the type who slathers everything with mayo, simply experiment with other condiments or spice mixes. You might enjoy their flavor more.

Got too overwhelmed by the texture of the aioli and salad together. I want to like garlic aioli so bad cause it’s so tasty but it reminds me too much of mayo :(
>>
>>77001088
Other tricks are keeping your snacks in less accessible areas. If the bag of chips sits on your desk, it will be a lot harder to resist it than if it's on the highest shelf in a room you rarely visit.
If you feel the need to snack, drink water or tea instead. It's likely you're just dehydrated - our bodies SUCK at differeniating between thirst and hunger. Wait a couple of minutes. The urge will likely disappear for quite a while.
If you have to eat something, make it something low calorie like rice waffles, or small like sunflower/pumpkin seeds - but in case of seeds, don't eat them by handful, instead do so by single piece at a time, they're very calorie dense. I do that by focusing on "peeling off their skin" before eating them. Impossible to eat a lot this way and it keeps your mouth busy for a long time.
However, I find it more effective to have a BIG meal full of protein and then simply not eating for a long time. Snacking is treacherous. It's safer to preemptively eliminate the risk.

On that note, I strongly recommend "intermittent fasting". It's called fasting but it doesn't entail drastically cutting your calories. You simply shorten the eating window. When you wake up, don't immediately eat. Make a coffee or green tea. Then make another cup and go out to walk. Get your steps in. No advanced cardio, just walk. Can be walking around your block. Only eat after coming back. If you don't feel super hungry, drink another cup instead and wait.
Eat a big meal. Again, protein focused. Few hours later, another big meal, protein focused again. Two or three meals. AIm for more than 100g of protein. If you can do more like 160g, awesome. If it feels like too much bother, just try to make sure it's 100+g every day. Nothing crazy. Stop eating at least three hours before bed. Only water and other zero calorie drinks allowed, like some teas.
Intermittent fasting doesn't work for everyone but I found it very helpful. Try it out, there's no harm.
>>
>>77001172
That looks pretty tasty but I’m dubious it’s only 650 cal for everything. Protein looks low too. I might pick up some turkey and have a wrap for lunch myself
>>
>>77001268
Either way I didn’t eat most of it cause the texture weirded me out. But now that I think about it the wrap was probably around 500cal even though the turkey and cheese were light, they put a lot of aioli.

>>77001154
>Start by eliminating soda, swapping a daily sandwich for a salad

I see, I'll start today by eating at maintenance for a week, then -500 next week, then my goal of -1000 the week after, my maintenance is 2500 so I think I'll be okay, by then I guess I will be more used to calorie restriction and will have more willpower

>>77001193
>Quitting after three days is very weak to be fair
I'm severely mentally ill, sometimes I think I should unironically be in a psych ward. I have crippling OCD eating away at my will everyday, from germaphobia with multiple handwashes a day to organizing and reorganizing stuff multiple times a day, the meds help but make me drowsy. It's no excuse, but I'd have to be delusional to think this doesn't make things harder.

Yeah that’s a pretty reasonable starting schedule. It gets easier the longer you do it- you just learn how to fill yourself up on fewer cals. After a few months you’ll have a regular grocery list, favorite lean meals etc. After just a few weeks you’ll start to see progress which is another huge motivator. It really is the first 10-15 days that are the hardest, when you just have to trust the plan.

Yeah, mental conditions are serious detriments. I feel you man. That's why I recommended changing your approach. Don't try what didn't work many times already. Go at it from different angle. Beginner gains are real and you might enjoy the process of progressing with weight lifting. Like a game. Small steps to improve your irl account. Start with something simple. Pic rel is what i was doing at start because I'm a poorfag who could only afford $30 set of dumbbells.

-1000 cal is quite extreme. Stick to -500, maybe extend to -750 later. Your body needs energy to function and can react wildly if you change your habits too much. Instead of harsh calorie deficit, it's better to simply walk more to increase your energy expenditure.

Yeah, step by step. Walking is something you can start any day, gym is more serious. Walking alone is already very impactful. To be honest, for weight loss alone, it was the single most effective thing I implemented and the one which truly sped up the process - but obviously circumstances differ. Don't jump into 10k immediately either, just progressively increase.

I recommend saving my long posts for the future, when you'll have more time to process them and also better idea of your personal goals. Speaking of, final one below:

>>77001088
There are two other big reasons why you should want to implement weight lifting into your weight loss journey.

First is the fact that people with more muscle mass have better metabolism. You could have two identical humans with the only difference being one guy has more muscle mass and he will always burn more calories passively. Yeah, even just by sitting on his ass or sleeping, his body spends more calories on its usual functions which means he can lose weight by eating the same as the other guy, or maintain the same weight but being allowed to eat more. This alone might not be a huge effect but it's yet another piece of the puzzle, adding up on other good habits which naturally happen when weight lifting.

Second big reason is of aesthetic kind. If you lose a lot of weight quickly, depending on absolute amount and your personal genetics, it can result in a lot of loose skin which doesn't look very appealing. However, if you build muscle while losing weight, they will improve how your body looks, adding more definition to it, either negating any loose skin, or drastically minimizing this side effect. Instead of flabby arms, you will have impressive biceps etc. Sounds good, doesn't it? That's something far in the future but worth keeping in mind. Moving away from highly processed foods into more naturally prepared healthy food will also have positive effect on how your skin looks.
>>
>>77001363
Don't think so. Drink some kefir, once or twice a week. There's nothing better in the world for that purpose. Kefir is also a good source of protein while being low on calories.
I know it's sour and many people don't like the flavor - I like adding some salt and decent amount of granulated garlic for better taste. Or some mix of red spices if I want an extra kick. Just add a teaspoon of those spices into the bottle, shake it up, drink away. Simple.
If you feel fancier, do it the way my mom does, chop up cucumbers and red radish and pour kefir over them. Can add dill, spring onion, cilantro, bell pepper, beetroot, whatever you want/have available at hand. Various leaves work well too. Season with salt and pepper or curry powder or... you get the gist.
>>
>>77001525
Man I cant stomach all the probiotic foods. I just want a healthy intestine.
>>
>>77001507
I see, I'll be saving your posts, but for now I'll be walking only, however this is good motivation for going to the gym in the future.
>>
>>77001585
