>Who is /fat/ for?
For Buffet Bandits who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Yes that's the whole fucking point of keto, well done. It's an easier way to follow cico by reducing hunger, but that's its only advantage. It sucks if you are actually active.

Carbs have no benefit for physical activity. Carbs block fat burning so you have to constantly eat, which is often a disadvantage. Of course it is terrible for weight loss.

When your body can use fat for energy it has access to months of stored energy.

I've eaten:
2 cups of Greek yogurt
Chili (small bowl but major fuckup, I forgot carbs are in beans)
Slice of bologna and American cheese
Three hamburger patties plus cheese

I walked five miles in under an half and a half and did 396 pushups over five variants yesterday. (99 declines, 99 dips, 20 archers per arm, 17 diamonds and 161 regular.)

I do feel like I'm eating less, vastly reducing carbs and eliminating desserts, pop and any sweets entirely. Listing what is basically just my breakfast and lunch like that makes me feel like I'm still overeating.

are food cravings / habitual and irrational eating caused by sugar
Im serious
I’ve been only using some artificial sweeteners and they don’t cause me to feel like eating at all
Just now I went to go randomly eat some leftover garlic bread (that good shit) after finishing dinner even though I knew I didn’t want it (plus had extra calories anyway) started eating it, then put it away realizing I just don’t care and don’t need it
The sort of irrational eating for pleasure just isn’t there the sensation is gone

Ultra processed carbs have their function and correct place. I for one eat pasta daily. The amount varies, workout intensity dictates. Those are real powerful blocks to a highly active person. To an overweight or obese person? They're just Weightgain 3000.

One aspect is the slop-addiction culture (UK-US). Usual store bought bread, even the healthier options, are by definition 'ultra processed'. The less there's fluff in the ingredient list, the better it is for you.

I'm taking a two week break from eating eggs (4/day) currently. It's day 4 and the effect is clear. I feel more hungry. For me that's a welcomed thing.

I vividly remember thinking “I will never bounce back in weight” after over a year of hungry nights cutting from 270 down to 180, only for me to enjoy a few months thin to then go in a spree of weight gain when the sadness and coping caught up. It’s a cruel joke to be back to cutting

When you meet your target goal do not stop weighing yourself and do not convince yourself that it doesn’t matter anymore

when you're at the store grab a can of those cheap canned potatoes. that's the most honest and accurate measurement i've seen. the estimates from online guides are all wrong and overestimate because they are assuming you're eating a giant potato or something. they're wrong. potatoes are diet food as long as they aren't swimming in oil. look at the label on the can, you'll see what i mean.

Carbs. Powdered or liquid carbs are worse but ultimately it's just carbs which cause hunger.

Fat and protein satiate. Low-fat diet causes out of control hunger because it misses the satiation from eating fat.

CICO always results in weight regain. It destroys metabolism and increases hunger hormones. Guaranteed failure.

You need to find a diet that works without hunger. (HINT: just quit carbs).
>>
>>77218874
Yeah you are having the same problem. You did CICO. It always fails. You end up back at starting weight after 2 years.

If by "eating healthy" you mean low/no carb with unlimited fat and protein then you have indeed found the solution.

But then they stopped selling the brand I liked and all the other brands are completely flavorless so I'll never taste my favorite meal again it makes me sad. But it was probably 4k calories so I guess it's for the best. Still I know exactly what you mean, the food demon in our brains never shuts up. I sometimes think about shooting myself on the side of the head so maybe I kill the part that craves.

maybe obvious advice but if you're eating something you know is a cheat meal/not the best thing to be eating, try eating it very slowly and seriously thinking about each bite and trying to savor it thoroughly. for me that helps me make "ok i'm just going to have one cookie as a treat" type delusions into a reality without ending up actually eating 8

Mcdonald's is fine occasionally if you don't get the fries or regular soda.
Just get a double quarter pounder without cheese and a diet soda. 640 calories

That's why fasting can be hard since you tend to easily overeat after. Try to just eat every day and have a small deficit.

>>77219733

Complex Carbs decrease cortisol and increases leptin, which improves fat burning and hunger. Moreover the slow release of insulin helps prevent major spikes over time.

Bro burgers aren't magically unhealthy and poisonous just because they're burgers. You can have a burger, it's beef cheese and a little bread. Hell you could go to wendy's and get a son of baconator for 600 calories, even add a small fries and diet soda for another 300 calories, and still be well under tdee for that day. I’m just trusting the tdee estimate it shows in cronometer. I’ve consistently lost weight with it, so it’s accurate enough for me.

As far as the history of flat calorie theory (aka cico) being promoted to the American public, Sugar Information Inc started advertising it as a "new approach to weight control" in the 1950s.

Here's an ad by Sugar Information Inc from the 1960s where they explain that Americans traditionally believed that things like sugar and starch were fattening. The purpose of advertising flat calorie theory was to trick people into abandoning traditional wisdom.

Even a caveman can figure out that if you eat a certain food and it makes you fat, that food is fattening. It took a lot of advertising to trick people into believing flat calorie theory.

Coca-Cola in very recent history was still funding superbowl commercials and other ads telling people that flat calorie theory is true.
>>
>>77220551
Bad.
I'm the same height as you, I'm 10lbs lighter (now) and that was my original goal as well.
After talking with some other people here, I've changed my goal to the 170 - 180 range.
>>
>>77220551
Still very much fat especially as a dyel with no extra muscle. Even with muscle that would still be fat.
>>
>>77220551
keep it manageable, first try to get under 300, then 250, and so on
>>
>>77220551
Depends on what your lean body mass is.
>>
>>77220555
>>77220558
I should preface I’m not looking to be lean but more of a strong-fat physique. I’m naturally a pretty broad guy.
>>
>>77220564
So am I, anon.
I started at 424lbs and I was 329lbs last week.
220lbs was my goal until people talked sense into me. We need to be aiming for 170 - 180 at our height.
>>
What if we made a meetup where all /fat/ties get together in the same room and get sweaty and naked and all hug each other really tightly and then when we all lose weight we will look at the video and laugh hahaha
>>
>>77220564
My stance does not change. If you have been lifting for years then you can look fat but very acceptable at 220 5'10 especially wearing a shirt. I'm assuming you haven't been lifting for years or roiding, so no. Shoot for 200, even then you might be disappointed since you might not be as naturally strong and broad as you think.
>>
>>77220567
that'd be gross men are best sweaty and naked and in close proximity with each other when they're lithe
>>
>>77220564
Set your goal to 29 BMI and below 20% body fat.

That would be more around 200 pounds than 220 if you're the 5'10" anon.
>>
once you actually start losing weight the "actually i'm big because i have a lot of muscle under the fat" delusions will be laid bare
>>
>>77220577
some people are actually built different though and have really a lot of muscle mass regardless of their lifestyle, especially when they delivered ample fuel to build it (along with fat)

>A small, disgusting sack of loose skin hangs from my lower stomach that looks more gross than a fat belly
>I'll never have defined abs
I actually expected I wouldn't need surgery since I was never that big. Fucking damn it all.
>>
>>77220583
Delivering fuel doesn't matter if was never used.

Your legs are probably pretty big carrying your fat ass everywhere. But your arms will be skinny if you never lifted.

You can get a dexa scan to confirm what you actually have as far as muscle and fat. You can also try a smart scale, it won't be 100% accurate, but it will be in the ball park. Then there is the old fashioned tape measure method.

What is your actual body fat percentage anon? You can use that to calculate your lean body mass. And that will tell what your weight actually should be.
>>
>>77220409
I dont have to prove myself to bitches who let other men speak for them, lower your voice
>>
>>77220565
I don't see myself going under 200 let alone to 170. I've been bigger my whole life and I fine with not becoming skinny, I'm just looking to be a less bigger big guy, low 200s seems like the best route for that.
>>77220569
I plan on getting in lifting once I get under 300.
>>77220575
I haven't measured my height in years, I am most likely closer to 6'.
>>
>>77220626
Well when you reach the 220 range, simple body fat measuring like the navy method becomes fairly reliable. Feel free to stop losing weight if you are magically 20% or even 25% bodyfat at 220, but 99.9% chance you will be 30%+ and you should be honest with yourself when that happens.
>>
>>77220644
>20% or even 25% bodyfat at 220

that is impossible unless he's 6'8
>>
>>77220680
Well I knew it would be impossible for him, but the upper range of that is certainly possible even for natty lifters. The lower range too if you're roiding. I said all of that with experience, since I was about 28% at 220 5'10/5'11 myself, now I'm 196lbs 18%.
Being 6'8 would be ridiculous, it's like an entirely different world with how different weight standards are compared to 5'10. This guy from previous thread >>77214874 is 200lbs 6'3 which would clock in at the upper range of normal bmi. He looks around 20% in that pic.
>>
>>77220644
Bodyfat % doesn’t concern me, its the aesthetics a different physique that are my main goals. Health isn't a concern either, I'm actually in good health despite my size and the little issues I do have should clear up at my goal. I'm fine with still being a little chubby at 220, I can always modify my goal weight if unsatisfied.
>>
>>77220680
25% at 220 would just mean a lean body mass of 165. Then at 195 he would be 15% body fat.

That's totally achievable for someone who is 6' tall.

Also what lanklet is only 220 pounds at 6'8"?
>>
>>77220702
>Bodyfat % doesn’t concern me, its the aesthetics a different physique
Then bodyfat percentage should concern you, because that will determine what you look like.
>>
>>77220711
Not when the physique goal I have in mind doesn’t relate to a very low bodyfat %.
>>
>>77220714
Ok, then be 220 at 50% bodyfat, since it doesn't matter to you.
>>
>>77220718
Don't be a spazz
>>
>>77220718
Not that anon, but one of the other big fatties.
The Navy calculator says that at my most recent weight (329), height (5'10"), waist (52") and neck (17"), I'm at 41%.
Is that right?
>>
>>77220588
if it's small then surgery is not necessarily a good idea, it's a pretty dramatic procedure and leaves a giant scar that is probably equally as unaesthetic as a small patch of loose skin. you can probably still have defined upper abs at least
>>
>>77220735
Yeah, my four upper abs are starting to show at least, but it still sucks. It looks really nasty and I feel gross.
>>
>>77220733
No. The navy method was made for... the navy, it's a best-fit approximation designed to work within a typical range of heights and fatness you would find in the military. The more overweight you are, the more off it will be.
>>
>>77220750
Gotcha. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but around what weight should I expect it to be more accurate?
>>
Can I lose a kilo by donating blood?
I don't care if it's temporary, I want more score at fatty contest
>>
>>77220752
Not a dumb question, it just doesn't have a confident answer. The navy basically took the height, weight, and bodytape measurements of thousands of 20 year old guys and entered that data into a graphing calculator that spit out a nonsense log function. Even then it still has a wide margin of error, since there is so much body shape variation and the navy doesn't actually care if you are 18.5% or 19% fat. My guess would be the closer you are to 185lbs ish 20% bf, the more accurate it is. Maybe at 30-35% bodyfat it becomes acceptably reliable, but I'm just spitballing there.
>>
>>77220749
yeah i feel for you, i'm also in a similar boat where i got fat enough to make my stomach area look permanently worse but not enough to realistically justify surgery. it's natural to feel regret about it but i'm sure you don't look as gross as you think you do when beating yourself up about it
>>
>>77220329

So tell us what happens if a 400 kcal of fattening food is absorbed by a body that burns more than 400 kcal? Does your body just go
>Absolutely fucking not! Paralysis mode on! You must gain fat now or else!
>>
According to sailrabbit I can get to 22 BMI in 3.5 months if I have a 400kcal daily deficit.

Achievable? How lean would I be at that BMI?

Fat retention, muscle loss, lowered metabolism, and increased hunger, leading to inevitable weight regain.

>Fat retention
You can not store fat if you're in a deficit
>muscle loss
That's a lack of protein issue, not carb presence issue
>increased hunger
that's a not enough calorie issue, not carb presence issue

It's a hormonal thing. Your body composition is determined by hormones. That is why steroid users inject hormones.

Insulin blocks fat burning. So when you eat a fattening food (one which raises insulin) your body cannot access stored fat easily. That causes muscle loss and reduced metabolism.

Someone who eats fattening food in a so-called "deficit" loses muscle. Someone who reached the same body weight eating slimming food will have more muscle and less body fat.

Anyway this is something you will experience yourself. You can't escape the laws of hormones.

This only happens if you eat too much carbs. That's not a carb presence issue, that's a not enough exercise issue.

It's a hormonal issue.

Sedentary low carb gets better results than carbs with exercise.
