>Who is /fat/ for?
For carbloading carnivores who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

The only thing that matters is how much of a caloric deficit you are in compared to your total daily energy expenditure. Losing weight is 95% just not stuffing your face. Nothing else matters. Walking, lifting weights. Lifting a finger. It's fucking meaningless. Diet is all that matters.

I don't really understand the argument. If someone is really fat, they can literally just drink water, electrolytes, and a multivitamin for a year and be fine. Keto as well. A large enough fat reserve makes it completely safe. But keto, like eater fasting, becomes less and less optimal the leaner you get. Once you get under 20% body fat, keto is going to start taking lean body mass too. You're not going to have a way to spike your leptin, which is going to fuck your metabolism and make you generally fatigued all the time. You basically turn into a sickly skinny fat zombie. You need carb balance under 20% body fat.
>>
>>77302618
I used to do keto back in the day, I was tired all the time. I do plan to eat less carbs though

>1400 caloire diet, working out 3 times a week
>get down to 180 in about 2 months
>weight loss stops, just stops weekly weight in shows the exact same number. Im still well below my caloire defect

I honestly dont know where I fucked up. Im going to up my workouts to have more carido, and caloires down to 1300. Im going to need to eat mostly protein to hit 100g a day i think

You didn't fuck up. It's just glycogen replacing the fat in the fat cells keeping a light on for the fat to return until your body says fuck it. Then you will piss a lot in a "whoosh" and lose a ton of weight all of a sudden. It's just water leaving. However it is possible that you've been in deficit long enough and not eating enough carbs for leptin to keep fat burning at optimal levels. But two months probably isn't long enough to be in deficit for that to happen. You'll just woosh soon.

you will gain your weight back eventually if you're hungry during your "diet"

that's why 95% of people fail to lose weight years after years, they dont change their diet they just eat less the same foodss that made them fat in the first place

if you eat low fat high carb, you are always satisfied, never hungry, full energy, low cholesterol and lose weight at the same time

fructose if taken in excess can burden live yes, like drinking sodas or fruit juices can cause insulin resistance

glucose however nearly impossible, even in massive excess. that's why he had seveal billion asians and type 2 diabetes was unheard of before western food restaurants landed there

diet was only rice and noodles for them, and still is for most japs and koreans. they're thin with perfect blood glucose

in the west the more fat / glucose ratio there is in diet like uk, usa and central europe, there more fat people with diabetes you will have
>>

liver, not live

fructose is metabolized in liver all, like alcohol. glucose is the primary human energy source which is burnt as heat even in case of excess, it's the healthiest food for humans

Question for anyone who 'made it' or is close-to; when does the stomach fat reduce to the point of abs? I'm 6ft, 93kg right now - want to cut down to about 80kg or so. Still have a bit of a belly, waist is I believe 98cm at the moment (measurement across bellybutton section of stomach).

Can I reasonably(ish) expect to have a more flat stomach as I approach that 80kg point? Have been lifting for years, Current bf% is around 20%~23%.

I guess I forgot or maybe I just never knew how high calorie rice is. The initial portion i put in my bowl was nearly 500 calories. I love rice.

Protein is for lifting, which you should be doing. You need some carbs for worthwhile exercise. Fat is the leftover filler, it helps with satiety but that shouldn't be your primary concern. If you're hungry just deal with it.

So I went for a leisurely walk with the dog, the idea was to stay around zone 1, not push myself, just chill, then when I got home I sat down to "rest" but as I was sitting there watching anime and playing vidya that voice in my head was like "hey, you know what'd be perfect right about now? if you ate a whole bunch of calories." so I pulled out the bike and started peddling anyway, but instead of trying to hit zone 2 I just stayed in zone 1.

I find it hard to fully rest, because when I rest I get hungry and being active, even if its low intensity is a way to keep myself occupied and from stuffing my face or thinking about food.

Guys how do I make myself exercise and eat properly, after a very long gap of not exercising and dieting?

I make commitments to start everyday, but the inertia is keeping me from actually starting. I've gotten so used to stuffing my face like a pig, I can't eat normal amount of food. I've gotten so used to lazing around, I can't bring myself to do physical activity. Also, unrelated but this summer's been so hot that every day I wake up sapped of energy and too exhausted to start exercising. I used to be full of energy in the past when I worked out in the morning.
>>
>>77302957
Look bro, following your gut thus far has turned you into a disgustingly lazy, fat, depressed loser. Every choice you've made has been the wrong one, that means you've actually got a great compass for telling yourself how to live a good life, its just inverted, so you can only stand to improve your life by doing the opposite of whatever your gut tells you.

You just start. The more you think about something, the more you won't do it. Legit just say no to the trash in your house and throw it out before you go pick up some healthy stuff to cook. Don't give your brain a chance to come up with excuses. Don't reason with it, don't bargain with it, just tell it to fuck off.
>>
>>77302977
Start with the diet first. Then exercise a little. Then when you get comfortable with that do more. And repeat. Getting the diet down first is the most important step

TIL that Vitamin D deficiency is correlated to shitty eating habits.
>Appetite disturbances were significantly associated with increased odds of Vitamin D deficiency, even after controlling for depression and other confounders. However, due to the cross-sectional design, causality cannot be inferred. Prospective studies are needed to clarify this association's directionality and underlying mechanisms.

I got to 170 then bounced back after I got sick for a few weeks to 180, back to 175 again now and plateauing. I guess my body has the fat cells ready to go or something? Is there anything you can take or do to make them go away?

Fatasses, I need your advice. I'm actually making it and seeing real changes to my upper body shape. I looked in a mirror with my shirt off today, the first time in awhile, and was confused at what I was looking at for several seconds because I roughly look "rectangular" now instead of "blob." I'm still fat, but the difference is really apparent. This is the first time since starting losing weight a year ago where this happened.

Here's the issue though, and it's a bitchmode issue, but I just feel like a fraud, like I should still be looking like a fatfuck Kirby instead. It's not that my body shape now looks bad, just that it doesn't look like "me." I'm ambivalent about it, happy and proud that my hard work paid off, unhappy too for no good reason.

What do I do and why am I like this? I thought I'd be pretty elated here and now I'm whining about the results I wanted the entire time and finally got. wtf

>>
>>77303805

i feel you're not eating enough. even a manlet like me has to eat a whole chicken daily to barely reach 1 gram per lean weight in pounds.
you might need to eat 3-4 whole chickens.
>>
>>77303816
>manlet like me

besides this entire board vastly overestimates how much protein you really need, probably because a lot of them are frauded out of their minds and would be wasting all the drugs they spent their time and money (and future lifespan) on if they didn't fuel their body to properly use them.
but for a guy like me? the biggest exercise i do is walking for a few hours while i doomscroll on my phone? i don't need to proteinmax. it would do nothing for me.
>>
>>77303850
>you're probably taller than me
i'm not.
>besides this entire board vastly overestimates how much protein you really need
protein is satiating and has the highest thermic effect (the body has to spend calories to digest it). the more protein you eat, the less of the other stuff you'll be eating.
you don't "need" that much protein for your body per se but you need it to help you cut.

Just hit below 80kg for the first time and snapped a couple pics.

Left is around 105kg in May 2024.
Right is now at 79.6kg.
I'm 180cm tall.

My heaviest was 120kg and I stayed mostly around 110-115kg when I was a fat shit. Sadly I don't have pictures at my worst (fellow fatties understand the feel).

I screwed up because I only got back into lifting last month after being on and off it since early 2025. I could be looking sick rn if I wasn't so lazy.

I need more muscle (specially chest, my worst area), and need to lose some belly fat and the love handles, but I'm very happy with what I've achieved so far. I'm surprised I don't have much loose skin since I've been fat since childhood and this is my first time every at normal weight.

Btw this was achieved with CICO and eating plenty of carbs. Get fucked ketoschizo you fucking loser.

If it means mindlessly binging like a pig as a "reward"; never do that.

198.2lbs

So I’ve officially sunk about 5mo into losing weight… and I’m down a total of 5.2lbs. Honestly not too miffed about it. Started treating my apparently, at the time, still-raging bulimia. They support me losing weight for my general health (otherwise I would’ve gone somewhere else lol), but encouraged me to focus on non-scale victories.
My main goal was to get stronger and better for my family. I have a little girl and she definitely should not grow up with a mommy who runs to the bathroom after dinner and punches herself in the stomach until she cries. DD was too young to go to the bathroom herself. But she’s there now and I’m glad I’m past that part. I don’t know what I’d do if she walked in.

Aside from that, I’m feeling much stronger physically. I’m finally able to carry my son again. He’s only 4, he should still be able to have mommy hold him when he needs it. He’s also said he hopes I “stay a fun mommy” (:’]), since we’ve been walking to the park almost every day, and I’ve been teaching him how to fish.
He’s obsessed with bluegill cause I showed him some “bluegigi” memes.
It’s pretty neat being able to swim with my kids as long as they want and be 100% sure I can rescue them and (stay above water for the both of us) if they get too far out. Once upon a time I was training to be a Surf Lifesaver… oh how far I have fallen. Ain’t no surf around here, but I think I’ll try and get certified for lifeguarding before summer’s over. Oh… I finally feel cute in a swimsuit too.

Hang in there anons, it’s worth it for those around you too.

You should be bullied into submission, but...
You clearly have ADHD, plus you're mentally retarded (stupid). This isn't a conspiracy theory.
You clearly aren't using the tools you could be using. You're making excuses and propably don't even want to un-fat yourself.
If you do, then please read this and take it to heart.
Stop trying to find magic silver bullets. You've gotten yourself into the mess you're in. Good news? You can get yourself out.
Start by eating just one week at maintenance calories minus 300. Make sure you're getting enough protein (sticky). Weigh everything you ultimately put in your mouth. No candy, soda, slop of any kind. Just one week. If you can, prepare the food yourself.
>>
>>77303958
>How many times can you have a cheat day that it doesn't drastically interfere with your weight loss ? once a week or once a month?
Basicly what >>77304040 said.
The key is to find consistency and balance. The less you eat "cheat meals" the faster you get to your goals. The psychological side is: you do need diet breaks. Those can be done smartly so you don't spiral. Your body will propably need a carb refeed every now and then (if you train heavy). Instead of ordering food or going to a slop-palace you can cook the "cheat meal" yourself. Not only will it be more rewarding it'll taste better you know exactly what's in it.

I measured, it’s about 3oz raw weight which is about 285cal if the label is to be trusted. I use small plates and spread stuff out to pretend I’m eating a huge portion. The sauce is just tomato paste, pasta water, and 2tbsp heavy cream (also measured). Plus salt and seasoning. Chicken is about 1 cup of the frozen grilled store brand.

I don’t worry as much about calories anymore because I’ve actually started moving, and turns out I love keeping up with my (very) active children all day. My main goal is to get stronger cause I have PMOS (a metabolic disease, formerly PCOS) and the “true” skinny I used to chase almost killed me in the past.

Deep core exercises such as some forms of Pilates and Vinayasa. Strengthens the TVA which provides core stability and constriction. You’ll want to visit an in-person class a few times if you can afford it. The live form corrections are priceless and make or break the entire exercise.

Anecdotally, my posture (swayback) improved significantly as well as related pain and mobility issues.

>>77302991
Yeah, belly and love handles come off last unfortunately. There is a point that it looks really jarring when you get near your goal and look like a normal skinny person except in the belly. That only happens when you are getting close to your goal though, and it will pass pretty quickly if you keep up the weight loss. Skin elasticity is a toss up, depends on genetics mostly. Some people lose 100+ pounds with no problems, some get loose skin after 50 pounds. There were reports of skin tightening up to a year after the weight loss. You can also try building you back muscles up, as that will accommodate some of the loose skin. Lats especially can be built huge.

It can happen at the gyn floor with a special someone, we move from machine to machine, enter each others' zone, do a walk-by with a perioheral glance, move further away to watch from afar only to close down again. Spur of the moment, instinctual, authentic. Like living mandala with no promise of permanence, only an inhale and an exhale.

I have been feeling a little less sleepy than usual. Having that creeping hunger gets me more focused and energetic? Am I just manic again or is that supposed to be a thing.
>>
>>77304846
Could be fatigue combined with endurance.
>>
I just used the tdee calculator in the OP and it’s telling to eat 1300 calories a day for 1lb of fat loss a week. I’m 6’2 205 lbs. that can’t be right?

I was doing well for a few months, from last November to this April, I was doing good, sober, eating below my TDEE, exercising. Then at some point, I completely collapsed mentally, I felt exhausted physically and all my horrible habits came rushing back, back to alcohol, back to delivery, barely going out. I won't blogpost about my emotional state but how do I get that energy back that I had before that made me want to get healthy?

currently 265, 28M, want to get my life in order before I turn 30, should I focus on getting my diet in order and weight down and then add the gym on afterwards, or just do it all at once? part of me worries if I try to do it all at once suddenly i'll rubberband back to bad habits

>>
>>77305043
You're absolutely right, so I'd suggest you focus on the single most detrimental thing then work down in priority from there
So if you're alcoholic, start there, if you're a fiend for delivery, start there
Focus entirely on removing and replacing one bad behaviour with something else and you should be fine
This will be really really hard though, try not to hate yourself if you fail, just keep at it
>>
>>77305043
All at once. Start small bitesize in all three fronts, diet, movement and lifting. The most heard of remorse here is "I wish I had started lifting sooner" since it takes longer than losing the fat, and can have a synergic effect.

Sounds about right to me. That's a difficult goal though. An easier goal would be to accept a range of a 1/2lb to 1lb fat loss per week. That way you can eat 1300-1800 calories each day depending on how you feel, which is much more sustainable. Add some exercise in there and you'll be losing 1lb per week even at 1800 calories a day.

Grok says:
**No, these are not the same person.**

Here's a quick breakdown:

### Key Differences:
- **Face / Jawline**: The man in the first photo (black t-shirt) has a fuller face, different jaw structure, and a thicker neck/beard area compared to the shirtless man.
- **Body Composition**:
- First guy has decent arm size but carries more body fat overall (especially around the midsection under the shirt).
- Second guy (shirtless) is significantly leaner with visible abs, more pronounced muscle separation, and a different shoulder/chest structure.
- **Skin Tone & Lighting**: Different lighting and skin appearance.
- **Overall Build**: They have somewhat similar muscular potential, but they are clearly two different individuals.

This is a common format on forums like 4chan (one "before" or "average" pic vs a leaner "after" or different person), but they are **not the same person**.

The second guy is noticeably leaner and more defined.

You boost metabolism by building muscle since it is literally the energy needed for your muscle cells to operate. Of course a bunch of fat ass adults lost muscle mass over the course of 9 years, everyone does that isn't working out.

I need some reassurrance here even though I "know" that it can be explained fairly easily.

But I've been on a 1300kcal deficit (incl. aroun 150g protein) for 3 weeks now, eating virtually the same meal each day and a week ago I've started resistance training and sipping on some pre-workout that also contains 3g creatine. At the same time, my weight loss has been tweaking tf out. Can I safely assume this is just water retention in muscles and whatnot and once a heavier "baseline" is established it'll be back to continuous loss?
>>
>>77305844
if you're really being honest with yourself and the number of calories and not just eyeballing stuff then yeah its water/sodium and if you're working out you're presumably growing muscle too. Measure your waistline for proof you're losing weight don't rely on just the scale alone.
>>
>>77305851
I guess I can utilize a tape measure, I assume the waist change is something that can only be observed on a weekly basis? I know it's retarded to get hung up on some daily fluctuations. But with the added soreness and increased hunger from lifting it's a bit annoying. Trying to adapt the process-oriented thinking and just focus on the fact that I know what I'm doing is literally working.
"Being honest" is a given lmao
>>
File: weightvswaist.png (222 KB, 1376x652)
222 KB PNG
>>77305868
yeah just as with the scale it will fluctuate based on water / how bloated you are etc. Best thing I find is to measure yourself in the morning after the toilet and before eating if you can. But if you're seeing a downward trend on the waistline then its working. I record the scale and the waistline and you should see a correlation too. Of course there's always noise in the data points too. Its the trend thats important. Keep at it man, you'll do fine.
>>
>>77305915
Thanks, I appreciate the answer. It's sometimes easier to have facts you know yourself repeated to you by someone else. Gonna be easier to identify downward trends after a few more weeks. No other alternative anyways lol
