>Who is /fat/ for?
For carbloading carnivores who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I just can't think of what you do so links on top are relevant? If you're going back a couple of threads it's irrelevant, more than it and you're better off making a list in the archive.

Is it really that bad to skip the drastic weight loss and just straight into weight lifting? I'm really bad at keeping the weight off, I figure if not being fat is impossible, then strongfat is the next best thing.
>>
>>77314750
>Is it really that bad to skip the drastic weight loss and just straight into weight lifting?
Losing weight while you lift is the ideal scenario, it's faster than just eating less and you end up fit in the end.

About being strongfat, I think this is the wrong general to ask.
>>
>>77314750
In my opinion, if you're above 25% body fat, that's too chunky and (You) probably should focus on losing weight. Lower 20s of body fat is still quite fluffy but manageable and from there you can start bulking. Just my 2¢
>>
>>77314762

I'm not denying that fat loss should happen in an ideal situation, but my situation isnt ideal.

you can lift while on a (drastic) deficit
>>
>>77314765
It should be possible to be less fat while eating quite a bit by doing a huge amount of exercises or by using medicine. Extreme diets like are unhealthy, but they can make you lose weight, just forget exercises while on this.

Yes, but doing a lot of cardio can be an option. You can check how much time in a bike or similar you'll need to burn https://runbundle.com/tools/cycling/stationary-bike-calorie-calculator

This is possible but it leads to very toxic coping mechanisms. Instead of "running for a donut" just eat healthy to fix yourself and stop craving junk food. As you get leaner you will burn less calories as well, but the calories of that slice of pizza will remain the same.
If you are going to exercise do it because it is good for you and you enjoy it, not to "pay in advance" for calories or to punish you for overeating

How do you deal with shit like water retention and factors that skew the number on the scale? It is quite literally impossible that I haven't been losing fat while working out alongside a ~1300kcal deficit.

I don't think I have diet fatigue, I feel pretty fine, no brain fog, gassed out a bit earlier in the gym maybe. Do you just "let go" and disassociate from the scale and trust the basedience?
>>
>>77315185
Start tracking an additional metric like waist size.
>>
>>77315185
You deal with it by not worrying about it. If you have been consistently losing weight until now and haven't gone off the rails with your diet just keep doing what you know works. The scale will reflect it, but you gotta be patient sometimes.

When people say to eat x grams of protein per kg of lean mass, it means grams of protein contained in the meat you're eating, or grams of the meat itself?
I imagine 100g of chicken breast is not the same as 100g of protein so to hit protein goals I'd need to do a little calc on how much actual protein I'm ingesting, is that correct?

Plus, and I learned this firsthand watching my girlfriend's orders, if you get a man as your delivery guy, he's not gonna actually look for substitutes for you if your specific item is out of stock (or he can't find it because he doesn't speak English), he'll grab completely unrelated shit.
She ordered strawberries. They didn't have any, so he got strawberry cookies. What?
She ordered these Celiac friendly buns so I could make a burger for her. He got rice cakes.
She ordered some cotton swabs and he grabbed diapers.
Genuinely bizarre shit.

Updated the time lapse of my weight loss that I had posted after the first 100 lost. Not gonna post it again until a big benchmark though.
Trying to decide if that benchmark should be 150 lost or when I cross over to 299. 150 is probably more dramatic, then do it again at 200 lost, then at the final 250 lost.

I am 6'4 and started at 105.5kg, dropped down to ~80kg over about 6 months. (I popped back up to ~93 over the next year, and am going back down again)
Track what you eat. I find using a spreadsheet helpful, and also motivating. In the pic the columns are date, foods, kilojoules_eaten, weight, deficit, weight_7d
In this case, the last column shows the average of the last 7 days. This means that even if the spot-weight hasn't changed, or has even gone up, the average for the last 7 days can still go down.
Seeing that number decrease gives me motivation

As for tips/foods, apples are high volume for their energy, and can help if you have a sweet tooth. I can eat up to 1.5kg of apples a day.
For protein intake, I like to mix protein powder, high-protein greek yoghurt, psyllium husk powder, and cinnamon. It makes a sort of goopy desert with almost 75g of protein.
Mushrooms are absurdly low energy but high volume. Baking mushrooms with some very basic spices can very easily bulk out any meal.
For meat, I mainly eat kangaroo, but that probably isn't an option for you. Find something lean and cheapish, and try play around with it a bit.

thanks for reading by blog

you're cutting the wrong thing.- glucose burns as heat, it's nearly impossible to store rice as body fat. it makes your hunger also go away for long time and give your brain and muscles the energy they need (human body runs on glucose)

that's why there was 2 billion asians that had perfect weight and zero diabetes- they got their daily calorie 90% from rice

low fat high carb all the way, when you're ready to become healthy

So I'm down about 25kg but I still have belly fat.
If I were to lose another 10kg or whatever number is needed to become properly lean, and then regained 10kg eventually, would fat be deposited in exactly the same places (my belly)?

Almost everyone who experiences massive weight loss feels the same as you do at some point. The inbetween stage looks really bad but it gets better as time passes. Skin tightens up and shrinks on it own, but it takes a long time. It helps if you're still young.

For some, it can't be fixed without surgery. So, keep going, give your body some time to adjust and then later you can decide if that's something you want to it. Many people on /fit/ have made that decision and a lot of them have said that they were glad they did.

But of all the people who have lost weight even the ones with loose skin, none of them say- "I wish I was how I was before" and all of them say "I feel so much better now and I'm glad I lost the weight" and then some come back later and say "I saved up some money and got the surgery." But for a lot of people, it just (mostly) goes away over time- a long time, at least a year. Eventually, you're the only one who can still see it.
>>
>>77316461
Your fat distribution is always going to be the same. To believe otherwise is wishful thinking. To rid yourself of belly fat, rid yourself of (almost) all fat.

Genetics and body fat. Genetics can make you store more fat in the gut and decides your frame leading to a bigger torso (bigger rib cage). The main reason here is just higher body fat. People who compete in this sport professionally will lower their body fat to reach lower weight classes and be more competitive.

I got fed up with the weight loss stall and now I'm doing a modified version of the snake diet to get through these last several pounds. I'm allowing myself zero/low cal drinks and LMNT instead of snake juice for taste. I'm also being loose with the refeeding window. I'm prepared to lose muscle, I plan to start lifting again Monday to help with that, and I figure I can gain the muscle back once I'm at a better weight. I'm primarily doing this for aesthetics. I want my gut flat and my face leaner. It sucks, but so far I'm seeing results on the scale (obviously) but I haven't picked up on a change visually yet (though I definitely look better recently than when I was huge). Are push ups good for burning calories? Also what matters more, diet or exercise?
>>
>>77316655
Weight loss is like 90% diet, 10% exercise. A donut is like 300 calories, which you would have to walk like 3 miles to burn off. You can't really out exercise a bad diet.
>>
>>77316655
Push ups are decent if you're a fat fuck and can only do a few at a time. 6 months ago I could hardly do 5 in one set now I can pop off 50 in a go and not break a sweat it's just diminishing returns after a certain point
>>
Is it actually possible to spam workouts? Like, I am not satisfied with working out once a day. I want to spend hours on working out just like I did with art.
>>
>>77316688
Recovery is just as important as working out. 6 x mr olympia dorian yates worked out three times a week for 45 minutes each. Yes he was jacked to the gill on roids but intensity > overworking
>>
Is it a good idea to basically just eat whey for a week? I can use the TEF to my favour and get those 2g of protein per body mass kg while not having to worry about preparing food. I might eat something with carbs, like rice or bread, if I'm feeling tired. Will this help me burn fat more efficiently than a regular diet, provided I am in a calorie deficit? Will this affect my STEM studies, or it'll be fine if I eat carbs before studying?

I'm fat by definition, retard. My BMI is around 26.5 and I have no way of reliably measuring my body fat percentage, but I don't lift, so I'm probably high percentage, too. Everyone who saw me would say I'm fat. I get made fun of because of that. I wear L size even though I'm short and they fit well, but I look awful on them. Maybe you are just coping hard and gaslightning yourself into thinking you aren't that fat. No, not posting body.

My bmi is 23.5 which is in the "healthy" range but I still have a huge belly fat. Bmi is useless

Calorie expenditure means jack without personalized data, more importantly heart rate and zone duration
Much less whatever data the AI generalize, nothing wrong if you just want to vibe check it i guess but it most likely wouldn't be accurate to you
>>
When will craving for bread and other simple carbs stop? I can eat only so much carrots and cabbage to suppress it
>>
>>77317603
you don't need heart rate for it to estimate a calorie burn.

The data:
pace: 5kmh
weigh: 180 lbs
height: 185cm tall
bf: 22,3% body fat.

that's more than enough to get an accurate estimate. People given pace and height you can deduce a heart rate if you need but it's not the whole equation.

Not all mental illnesses manifest as attention seeking, only the cringe type do.
>I'm just going to fast and walk and I'm going to lose weight.
You've done this so many times without it working. You're just wasting time. If I had to guess you're having trouble taking any control of your situation. You would rather come up with some mental magic silver bullet to your situation, then fail at it while wasting time, gaining more weight and let the cycle repeat itself. Everything doesn't need to be optimized, just fucking eat at a small deficit (not fast, you suck at it), walk and do some resistance training.

I have been fasting six days a week, every week, drinking only water and only eating on Sundays since Lent started in February. I weighed 224 this morning and I expect to be at 234 by tonight. I've lost 96 lbs and have 64 more pounds to go for my goal weight of 160. I didn't make it to 220 this week, but I lost the 5 pounds I usually lose every week, so I'm satisfied with the results.

The anon 2 posts above mine is apparently doing a 144 hours one, the worst really is just the first two days, after that you are really fine. I find it much harder to eat less than to eat nothing.
I was planning on going for longer but I have an important event tomorrow and I can't risk fucking it up because I'm hungry or something. I'll see if I can fast for longer in the next session.
Personally I think that a timer can be very powerful motivating tool to keep going, I start fasting about 7pm, that means that by the next time I wake up I'll have "completed" around 13 hours of the next "full day fasting" with almost zero effort. Would you want to cut your fasting now that you're almost halfway done with the day? And if you did manage to finish the fast for the day (in my case, 7pm), would you really want to break it when you're going to bed soon?
That mindset can be really helpful, a few waking hours are much less dreadful than a full day, even if it's just a mental trick.
I'm logging my fasts with this https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.darkrockstudios.apps.fasttrack/ but your normal clock can work just as well.
>>
>>77318097
It depends on your mindset if you go into fully committed and don't allow your body to assuage it isn't all that hard. But it's also up to your body, hunger pangs and just mild background hunger is one thing but when you get that deep, yearning for food and your metabolism slows down and you feel cold then it's time to eat.
>>
>>77318127
whats your sw, cw, height gw?

I think a two day refeed for a 4.5 day fast is kinda dumb. you are better off with shorter fasts like 3 and eating within 2 hours, and doing lots of walking.

> The anon 2 posts above mine is apparently doing a 144 hours one, the worst really is just the first two days,
not true, and I'd argue for most people there it's definitely not true. the longer I fast the worse I feel. 3 days I can do and come out okay. 4 is pushing it. 5 is really taxing my body.

It's not my first time doing this, I've lost about 30kgs doing long fasts before, but I've gained a lot of weight again. I was around 114kg when a bunch of shit happened in my personal life and I ended up eating as a way to cope.

>kinda dumb
It's a two day break because, like I said, I want to be feeling good tomorrow since I'll have an important event and I'll probably be walking and talking to people the entire day.
I'm not necessarily against the idea of continuing a 2:4 fast but I think I can maintain a better ratio, we'll see.

>for most people there it's definitely not true
I can only talk for myself, and I've done 10 day water fasts before, more than once, I can't recall exactly how each day went but I still remember that the worst ones, in order, were 2>1>6. The second day being consistently the worst since I first started fasting.

yeah good job dude. hope it works out but look people have lost weight eating daily but eating little. prolonged water fasting is just a 'hack' to make eating a lot less easier. would you rather fest on 4000-4500 calories every 4 days or eat 1200 calories a day. if you eat 1200 daily you will lose a lot of weight quickly. so thats why is better to do short manageable fasts IMO minimum 3 days and eat a reasonable amount of course definitely track your calories and get your steps in. unless you are one of those weirdo fasting chud types who think there's something special in fasting beyond just massive caloric restriction and its help you "spiritually".

also i am fasting too for 3 days at a time

any advice for waking up at 5-6am for gym? im not a morning person at all and im always groggy even waking up at 7am to go to work every day, even with 8 hours of sleep
going to the gym in the afternoon isnt an option because i know my anxiety about my body would cause me to not want to be in front of a bunch of people, but i imagine the gym at 6am has very few

The fuck's your problem, nigger?
>Fasting doesn't work
The fuck it doesn't, you bumbling, mumbling, shit-eating monkey dick sniffing pillow biter.
You don't eat, you lose weight.
Simple as.
Of course it's spiritual. You're in a battle against yourself, you gain mental clarity, every religion has some form of fasting, and it's mentioned in every single last doctrine of theological and metaphysical text. Are you some sort of spiritually retarded individual?
Post body.

Thanking Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, King of the Jews, Cleanser of the Temple, the one true Son of God, I have a remote job, so I'm not constantly moving around. I take a nap in the afternoon for about a hour if I get too tired. I don't have any kids, but I have an English Bulldog, and he's pretty low energy too. The hunger becomes background noise after a bit, but it's usually the worst on Wednesday/Thursday and right before I go to sleep Saturday, I think because it's switching from ketosis to autophagy and my body knows I'll eat the next day. Human kidneys can process up to 34 fluid ounces an hour, so when I'm up, I drink around 28-32 ounces of water every hour. It helps to drive away the hunger. I also do exercise during the week, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, so it's been slowly improving my energy. A lot of the time, I just force myself to do things to keep my mind off of it and imagine/prep what'll I'll eat Sunday. The last two month, I've been keeping the park next to my house clean, picking up trash, clearing the creeks, and the sun, heat, and goal of cleaning helps to keep me motivated and moving. I sleep between 8-10 hours a night. I play video games, watch movies, read books, play with my dog, don't play with my hotdog, basically anything to keep my mind off the hunger.

every single last doctrine? do you know what you are writing chud? this is just incoherent. do you know what a doctrine is? and no not all theological and metaphysical texts (which all worthless junk) mention fasting.

keep fasting but maybe think (which you clearly aint that good at it because you are a chud) about what causes obesity. pro-tip eating more is a symptom, not the cause.

good luck.

> basically anything to keep my mind off the hunger.
how many weeks of fasting have you done thus far?

you are literally a reddit atheist from 2015. you converting to catholicism or orthodoxy or whatever faggy larp denomination is entirely driven by you being on the internet

> Read a book, nigger.
my point was you wrote that (the sentence I was replying) like you are an esl or someone who has never read a single work of theology, comparative religion or philosophy. just the wording was very clumsy and smacks of someone unfamiliar with what they are talking about.

> 16 weeks
wow. 96 lbs in 16 weeks is 6 lb a week. thats crazy. are you exercising at all? how is your sleep?
>>
>>77318390
100 lbs in 4 months. you are being mogged. where as your doomed to just regain it again.
>>
>>77318409
Yes crash dieting as a history of working for people lmao you totally won't gain it all back
>>
>>77318411
losing it fast doesnt increase your chance of regaining it. both people who lose it fast and those who lose it slow still regain the weight back. you are literally a chud. your whole life is just failure after failure. I am not surprised you are scientifically illiterate on this issue. but i am hoping to educate you.
>>

Yes it does, because you aren't developing a healthy relationship with food. I am. RIP fastard.

Fuck you. I've been following my religion for the past 25 years. Don't lump me together with you faggot ass monsters.

>every single last doctrine?
doctrine: a principle or position or the body of principles in a branch of knowledge or system of belief

theological: of or relating to theology
theology: the study of religious faith, practice, and experience

metaphysical: of or relating to metaphysics
of or relating to the transcendent or to a reality beyond what is perceptible
metaphysics: a division of philosophy that is concerned with the fundamental nature of reality and being and that includes ontology, cosmology, and often epistemology

text: the original words and form of a written or printed work

>every single last doctrine of theological and metaphysical text.
>fasting is mentioned in every single last [body of principles in a branch of knowledge or system of belief] OF (<EVERY IMPORTANT WORD HERE) [study of religious faith, practice, and experience] AND [of or relating to the transcendent or to a reality beyond what is perceptible] [the original words and form of a written or printed work]
There, is that a little better for you? Huh? Did I structure the sentence and use words that are better suited for your vocabulary?

>are you exercising at all? how is your sleep?
Yes, three times a week; Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I either take a hour~2 hour nap everyday or sleep between 8~10 hours every night.
>>
>>77318367
Yeah, basicly what >>77318373
said. Just get to the gym at the time that suits your habits, don't care about others too much. Lots of lardwhales bigger than you go to my gym. Idgaf about their aesthetics, they're trying their best to un-fat themselves and it's inspirational if something. I've seen many check out forms and specific excercises from observing others (me included), and it feels good. Those that stay long enough to become casuals also start enjoying the social side of it. Cardio bunny/sprinter posterior chains in plain view, and more experienced folk like me chatting to them. That just increases their reasons to come. Just do it.

you're right, i gotta just do it, i've been a fatty all my life and i think it's very easy to tell myself its what i'll always be, but the only way im gonna get to bag a cosplayer is if i get hot or get rich, and im poor as fuck so i only have one option
>>
>>77318464
Yes, now your tone is of sound mind. Confidence is a state of mind, and you train it at the altrar of gym. Every rep is a success, each point of failure a victory. Both your body and your mind will reward you. Individually and in synergy. Just enjoy the ride, fren!

In a bout of weakness i end up buying a bunch of biscuit, candies and drinks i used to like after abstaining from them for the better part of the month
And jesus they all taste so fucking bad now, everything is too sweet how the fuck did i used to inhale these every afternoon
I guess it's maybe a good thing that i won't rebound on this specific thing i guess? sour candies is still hitting though, probably would end up buying every now and then
>>
dae get a short rush when the scale goes down one day but when it stalls again even for just a few days you feel like you are never going to lose another pound again?

>>
>>77318508
lifelong perfect abstinence from candy is definitely unrealistic and probably shouldn't be an explicit goal, so if you want to look on the bright side it's a chance to learn how to eat them in portions that are harmless
e.g. instead of inhaling lots of sweets every afternoon as you put it, have just one or two pieces of candy, try to eat it slowly and appreciate the experience, then just leave it there since you got the enjoyment you wanted
ideally eating that kind of stuff as dessert after a meal that already left you full so eating sugar doesn't prime you to be ravenously hungry again
>>
>>77318534
at least i am not the only one
>>
>>77318520
mhm :')
that's why when i hit a stall i just make a note not to check it again for a week or two, and when i do i've gone down again and things are rosy
