>Who is /fat/ for?
For stockpilers of snacks working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Calories in calories out I think is just part of the equation. The other thing you have to aim at is insulin resistance, where unironically the best thing you can do is avoid carbs. Besides the calories, you have to avoid blood sugar spikes and in aim for lower blood sugar overall.

I've been on a calorie deficit / lifting 3 times a week for a few months now, started at ~225 and just weighed ~187. 185 has been my goal since that's what I weighed my whole life pretty much before gaining.
So I'm nearly at my goal, but I do still have a bit of a belly. I guess it makes sense cuz you can't really target fat loss, but what do I have to do to get rid of it? Just lose more? I feel totally comfortable with my meal plan so it'd be easy to go further, but maybe ab exercise is the move here? I'd like to have a pretty flat stomach. I doubt 2 more pounds is gonna flatten my stomach but surely at a certain point, maybe like 175 it would be? I'm 6'1" btw

I stopped doing as much cardio as I used to in favor of muscle building but I do kinda miss the recumbent bike days. I used to read a book or listen to music and it's surprisingly a great way to lock into whatever media I'm consuming. Music while driving is similar, need an activity to satiate my low level desire to be fidget or whatever but doesn't take an insane amount of focus. Real perfect conditions to take in music

Grill here,
I'm lifting and unintentionally eating under TDEE.
By the time I've hit my protein target throughout the day, there's no physical room for much else. I have to force down a 400g fruit smoothie (homemade) everyday because I can barely eat enough veg with my dinner. Is this ok? Its been weeks and I feel fine (apart from my period starting 5 days late).

Also, I've developed a weird body odor sometimes even though I'm eating carbs/sugar from bread and fruit.
>>
24 hours deep into a fast. My birthday is in just over a week. Next year I'll be 40. I refuse to ring in that decade a fat bastard. I don't want my kids to grow up with a fat dad. Let's see how the fasting goes. I see these people post how they go on 30 or even 40 day fasts and the incredible lasting results they get from them and I just think I can do it too why not? Wish me luck bros.
>>
>>77437171
What's your protien target? Remember its 0.72 per pound of your lean body mass of goal weight.

That is to say if you want to be 120lbs at 20% body fat aka 96lb of lbm x 0.72g/lb thats only ~69g of protein a day. Which should not be so much bulk that it's a challenge to stuff it all in.
>>

I'm finding it really hard to gauge how much I need to eat because I don't work every day. Days that I don't work I basically lie in bed on the computer the whole day except when I workout and days when I work I'm constantly active moving about. I thought I was eating enough the last couple of days at work because I felt fine, but today I'm off work and I go to do my chest day and I feel weak as fuck.

I'm also finding potatoes unreliable as fuel for working out because they release their energy so slowly. It's fine if you've got stored glycogen, but I don't and trying to work out a few hours after eating and I still feel weak.

False. Your body burns fat and sugar simultaneously.
Carbs will be prioritized for high intensity training but your body doesn't just stop burning fat because it has carbs to burn.

Please help bros, I'm fucking dying here.

So after a year of weight loss I'm past goal weight. I weigh 134 lbs at 5'7", male obviously. In clothes I now look good, arguably skinny. My BMI is good. I don't want to lose any more weight but just maintain and have energy for a couple months and take a break.

Trouble is that I cannot fucking eat maintenance and have energy. I feel like absolute shit 24/7. My quality of life has taken a nosedive because I have constant weakness and fatigue, low energy, no strength in my body. It's affecting my job, and overall every day just feels tired and sluggish and like I'm about 80 years older.

My heart rate also can drop as low as 39 BPM resting.

I became convinced I have a health problem. Yesterday I ate a surplus to see what would happen (already passed today without repeating) and was surprised to find that I felt like my old self again. No bad heart rate.

I eat 2100/day. I work 4 days a week, retail, 8 hour shifts. I walk to and from work, then spend the entire shift on my feet, lifting heavy boxes and unloading (my department is a heavier one). I used to run treadmill after work but I'm honestly too fucked for that now. I walk into town on my days off but mostly sit on benches reading when there. I don't drive/cycle so I walk everywhere I go. My legs hurt to fuck and are weak to support my weight even though I'm light now. I keep nearly falling over/losing balance, especially after a shift.

I am extremely tired and everybody tells me I'm irritable as fuck which is true. Yesterday I ate 1500 surplus and felt comfortably energized, maybe slightly more than necessary. But it is not sustainable to eat such a wild surplus every day (also my body can't even deal with that shit any more).

I want to try 2400 but I honestly think I will gain weight and I'm scared to do that because with my leg issue I don't know if I can run it back off again.

Hi, ladyfren. I also struggle to fit enough protein into my body. I really like “clear” protein supplements. They’re filtered significantly more than “non-clear” options to the point where they’re considered a clear liquid. A clear liquid is something that is urinated out and doesn’t result in fecal matter. Other examples are water, gatorade, tea; the stuff you’d be told to ingest in the hours before a surgery.

I really enjoy OATH clear protein.
I bought it after being influenced, but it’s remained a staple for over a year because it doesn’t feel nearly as heavy as things like bars/shakes.
On a bad day, it really is a lifesaver cause I’m almost always up for a lemonade. I make slushees with the “frosty lemonade” flavor in my Ninja machine. A serving yields approximately 20g protein in a 16-24 fl. oz form factor.

I also choose salmon as my protein of choice (although my doctor has told me I really shouldn’t have predatory fish more than 3x/week, even though salmon is a safer choice compared to cod/tilapia/tuna). Those damn slammin’s are so good tho. So versatile.
>>
>>77437171
>As for body odor, mine got a bit weird after I first started losing weight, but I think it goes away. May or may not be related to the swap in cleansers though. I use Naturium salicylic acid cleanser.
I need something fragrance free (I get deematitis) and mildly acidic to support your skin barrier. Lume makes a good pH balanced cleanser if you want a nice smell too though. Also natural deodorants. I sweat too much to justify them. They don’t work for me.
>>
Any of you use DNP? How's it going?
>>
>>77437202
It's between 0.5g to 0.7g/lb to get the most benefits for least amount of protein. Most of the benefits are at 0.5g and then drop off at 0.7g.

Hey /fat/ I got a question about joint pain.

My job has me on my feet all day, and lifting and kneeling a lot (grocery clerk). I've been doing stronglifts for a bit and my squat's up to 310 pounds now.

Only thing is I think I fucked up the cartilage in my knees, I've had this happen before and solved it by doing less high impact cardio. Well now its just constnat.

Should I deload? Wait a week for my knee to heel? Focus more on cardio and reduce stronglifts to 1 or 2 days a week? I'm still a pretty big dude, I'm starting to think I should focus more on cardio so I can burn fat quicker.

Anyone got any advice?
>>
>>77437569
i want to see it
>>
>>77437575
>Anyone got any advice?

Yeah stop cardio altogether, running is what wears out the knee joint and if it's actually fucked from a lifetime of running then it's not just going to heal on it's own, you need a doctor to inject your knee with some kind of shit that acts like a lubricant and it only lasts a few years.

buy lots of chicken from now on.
Heres my kung pao recipe.
1/2 onion, 1 jalapeno, 2 breasts cubed
put those in a medium heat pan with a spray of pam. stir until chicken is cooked. turn the heat off.

in a bowl crush a cube of soup bouillon, add a pinch of peanuts, and a single (small) spoonful of kikoman, ketchup, water, and chili oil. pour it over your chicken and stir it until its covered.
this is about 500cal and 50g protein

2100 calories is NOT your maintenance. You work 8 hour shifts on your feet 4 days a week, you do manual labor, you walk to and from work and everywhere else… your true maintenance is likely 2600 to 2900+ calories a day.
Your heart is literally in starvation mode, and the real kind, not the cope fatties use to justify eating like shit. You are running on empty, friend. No wonder you felt normal when you ate more.
At least bump your calories up to 2400 YESTERDAY. Your weight on the scale will go up, but rest assured it’s not fat, just your muscles storing water now that they’re actually getting enough glycogen from the food you eat.
You should also see a doctor. God knows what this has done to your blood, hormone profile, etc…

Only if you eat the recommended serving size, which I never did. Cereal is way to easy to overeat. Cereal is incredibly calorically dense and its like half a cup in milk for a third of your day's calories, its bullshit. Only makes sense if you're bulking or super active.

How does one fix an obese mindset? What exactly is the nexus of such a mindset in relation to food?
>>
>>77437786
you don't treat food like fuel to have when needed
you treat it as a cope, a comfort, a reward, something to do when you're bored
your body is out of whack and hormones as well
you are inundated with food noise, normal people are not. they do not over indulge everyday, their lives do not revolve around eating and the next meal.
they eat some, they eat what is needed and move on to the next thing.
you keep chasing the feeling of comfort and pleasure that you get from your food and want it again and again over indulging each time. you seek it out in the in between.

it's all a disordered unhealthy relation to food.

the "fix" for me what strict limited deficit held for 2 weeks solid with no over eating, no junk.
if i felt "hungry" when I knew I wasn't, I drank water and "toughed" it out until the next day.

you need to let your body reset. become familiar with what feeling full actually feels like rinse and repeat this.

>>77437796

Also, don’t worry. I’ve copped a matching life jacket (picrel) as well as some additional category 3 PFDs (rated for activities on calm, inland water) for others.

>>
>>77437983
Agreed, again I don't have any trouble with that, it's just an autistic sort of hypothetical
The new GLP-1 related drugs are far, far, far, far, far safer than anything like DNP and I cannot state this enough. But I don't like their mechanism of action since they reduce calorie intake which in turn leads to elements of a fasting response, muscle loss, low energy, etc. DNP and T3 on the other hand increase energy expenditure which basically makes you feel like normal, maybe hotter or more amped up (respectively). Though as far as mitochondrial uncoupling goes if I were to get my hands on one I would go with BAM15, it has a way better safety profile than DNP and could actually even be beneficial in therapeutic use.

Abstinence doesn't train discipline, just like fasting doesn't train healthy eating, its replacing one unhealthy tendency with another, being able to have a little and then say 'no' to more is the goal. You only get there by engaging in a small amount and then forcing yourself to stop, each time you get over that urge you become stronger and it becomes weaker. That struggle against the urge to overindulge is what you need to train, and you'll main serious gains once you put your mind to it.

Oreo is just an example, it really could be anything you'll have the urge to overindulge on, usually snack foods like jerky, cookies, chips, fries, ect are best because we are conditioned to want more than one of them.

Ignore the crabs, yes it is a dangerous drug but people still use it today for rapid weight loss, as long as you’re able to dose it right you won’t die, whenever I want to shed some fast weight after a big bulk I’ll just do it for 2-3 weeks max, I despise glps1s because it takes way too long and it’s way more expensive, DNP is harder to get so be sure you’re getting from a good source, I got it from a friend who’s an ifbb pro so I knew it was safe, don’t buy DNP from Indians or China, it’ll be a Russian roulette.
The risk to reward ratio is just better than glps1s imo, you take it, you’ll quite literally cook ur fat in a few weeks, last time I used it was 20lbs in 2, which allowed me to stay at 10% bf, I already have a good diet and lifting regimen, I’ve lifted for 4 years and competed in amateur shows so I rarely binge eat it back.

It is fixed with low-carb and fasting.
>>

I am doing 3-5 rolling fasts where I eat up to 600-1000 calories, although most times I get by on under 200 calories. I can fast 3 days on 0 calories with some willpower but if I allow myself 600 calories or so I can push it a day or two so I still am -3500 calories on a day. I am losing a lb a day still. 10k steps. Also I am 400+ lbs so my TDEE is massive with the walking. Idk 7 days is insane to me and each I tried I just binge out.

Apparently he's been doing it for months, just back to back and losing I think like 6 lbs a week. He has 2 months left. So that's why I am super impressed.

But I didn't start fasting until the start of June, until then I just ate at 1k calories and slowly got into fasting by skipping a day for 2 weeks in May, then 2 days and from the start of June I started to roll 3-4 day fasts and now I switched to 7 days until end of August where I hopefully hit 87-88kg (190lbs).

On a cut, I don't think it's possible to get too many carbs with remaining calories. If you are hitting ~1g/lb of bodyweight for protein, and something like 40-60g/fat per day, carbs can make up the rest and be fine. That said, I would avoid simple carbs like the plague, and I get wanting to go lower; I find the more carbs I have in my diet, the more hungry I get, and the more I want to eat. Too little, and you feel like shit. You can start at the above numbers and play with dialing up fat/dialing down carbs until you start feeling like shit, then bump up the carbs to that minimum baseline.

Find your TDEE. Now eat 500-700 calories less than that.

First priority is hitting your protein. 1g per pound of your lean/goal bodyweight.

Second priority is fats. Good rule of thumb is 1/3 of your protein.

Third priority is carbs. Fill whatever left-over calories with carbs.

>200lb trying to diet down to 180.
TDEE roughly 2600 kcal
Calorie intake 2100 kcal

180g protein -- 720 kcal
180 * 1/3 = 60g fat -- 540 kcal

2100 - (720 + 540) = 840 kcal of carbs -- 210g

That's a good starting point, but I prefer a bit more protein, so I would cut back on the carbs to fit like 200g protein in but you can do that math yourself.

Post body. Let's see which of us is fatter.
>>
>>77438460
Your metabolism goes down by 50kcal/day for every 10% of the diet that is carb.

Optimal carb consumption is zero.
>>
>>77438471
>protein has a soft cap because there's only so much you can actually use for building and repairing muscles, afterwich it either gets burned as regular energy or stored
and that's different to what I said... how?
>>
>>77438476
>t. retard that thinks the solution to uncontrolled eating is uncontrolled eating
>>
>>77438480
it destroys your kidneys if you take too much, it's not only burned or stored. so too much protein is the most if not the only dangerous macro to eat too much of. at least if you think poisoning/toxicology
>>
>>77438470
Carbs are my reason for continuing to live tbqh

Long term keto is horrible for you

Definitely don’t want a category 3 in the open ocean! Category 1 only! Category 3 won’t keep your head above waves or turn you right side up if you pass out.

I know you just said you’re afraid of the ocean, but I felt the need in case anyone buys a category 3 PFD for ocean usage.

aaaaaaaaaa
>>
>>77438484
ah ok I understand what you meant
but the amount of protein you'd have to eat for that to happen is so ridiculously high I think it will probably never be a problem for the average person
most people can't bring themselves to eat their minimum amount a day let alone go so much over they fuck their kidneys up

After multiple 72hr fasts, my thumb is now twitching. Why?!?
>>
>>77438405
what the fuck are you doing losing 2kg every day unless you're lying? shit's impossible even at that weight. i was barely losing 2 kg fasting 5 days a week at that weight.
>>
>>77438540
electrolyte disturbances most likely
>>
>>77438165
To be clear I meant I eat 600-1000 calories on my fasting days. I eat 3500-4500 on my refeed days. Of course this will come down as I lose weight.

> He did mention once that a janny had it out for him so he's most likely banned kek.
It's interesting that they allow the ketoschizo to derail every thread.

> It's slowed down and even after 7 day fasts last week I only lost 3 lbs and I stall every other week which sucks.
Your obviously smaller now but are you exercising at all? I think just walking is plenty. At a brisk pace that is. Aim to get 10000 steps in daily. If not more. But also as I am learning it's better to get do shorter fasts like 3 days because it's less stress on the body (and metabolism) but eat within reason. Early on in my fasts I was pigging out on fast food and would eat from 6 pm to midnight. Not continuously of course but I treated every refeed as an opportunity to be a glutton and a hedonist.

> And don't fall into the fasting trap where you don't learn to diet after you're done or you'll be back where you started.
I plan to do a high carb low fat diet. Like max 50g of fat daily if not lower like around 30g. Focusing on starches. Eating like poor people in the past did. Even most Europeans ate like this 50 years ago.

>>77438486

I finished it a while ago, it does actually get easier imo once you are used to no walking sections but just be aware the name is a scam and if you are doing timed you are not going to be running 5k by the end of it. Closer to 3K

Good to know, I'm somewhat aware of the 5k thing
Did you do 5k to 10k after?
>>
>>77438678
No, I stayed at 3k for a while as my weight was giving me joints issues and now that I lost enough weight it seems not to be an issue anymore I am increasing the distance by 10% a week. It seems to be working for me, might be slower than doing the bridge to 10k but it feels definitely safer

I have been waking up early for walks. I see a ton of fat couples wearing weight vests as they walk around the park. They're all wearing the same brand, it's crossed like an x in the back. Is this a new trend? Does it actually work and lead to increased weight loss?

>6'1" and 215 lbs, trying to get down to 190-200 range.
>>
>>77438691
They walk a ton of steps every day and have smaller portions than the average Amerifat does. Also less processed junk and unflouridated water.
>>
>>77438734
Weight vests I think do work since they're the third way to increase value from your walking, besides increasing speed and time, but the real new thing is wearing a weighted backpack. Works a bit better than just a vest since it trains more muscles.
>>
>>77438740
So just wearing a backpack with a 25lbs weight in it would be good or does it have to be heavier?
>>
>>77438734
My dad uses one of those. He's not fat but he had to get a knee replacement surgery, and he said it's helped restrengthen his knee a lot
>>
>>77438745
Probably start with less, but should work. Main thing though is that you want an even distribution of the weight and want it to be as high up and centered+close to the back as possible.
>>
>>77438687
I'll probably do what you do similarly tb h, maybe try going actual 5k in 30 mins slowly progressing
>>
>>77438748
What are they called? What's the brand everyone is getting called so I can get one too and join the herd?
>>
>>77438761
I'm not sure which brand you saw. I think my dad has the 45lb version of this one

Is it more effective to do more cardio or more fasting?
>>
If I am lifting 6 days a week - can I still do fasting of 48 hours, eat day, 48 hours, eat day, etc?
>>
>>77438866
You can't outrun the fork, anon
>>
>>77438745
Normal backpacks are terrible for carrying weight, they are too low down and will put excessive pressure on your collarbones.

I was going to try stuffing mine with a box filled with clothes to keep the plates high up in the bag but I never got around to it.
>>
>>77438866
more cardio.

Why are there so many fasting anons here? My best maintained diet that got me 25 bmi is simply reducing portions and daily walks.
