Yeah I am compressing tree bark as we speak. According to SSIM JXL already lost to AVIF but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and go 10% lower in filesize anyway vs AVIF and use PSNR/VMAF in addition to SSIM.

Word of advice from me is that benchmarks can always be manipulated like here for example you have sneyers's (main engineer behind jxl) own benchmarks
The truth is that these formats don't actually compete with each other but complement themselves. AVIF is fantastic for art, large block shapes the kind of content that is usually served over the web, on the contrary JXL is usually better for real life photos
Real crutch for me is JXL features (like lossless jpg transcoding) and simpler algorithms which make for faster decoding and encoding speeds on non-hardware accelerated machines

My dad wants a small windows tablet to replace his old, sluggish Surface Pro 3. Basically an UMPC with no keyboard.
In my opinion that's kind of retarded considering Windows 11 is not exactly nice to use with a touchscreen alone. Usually for these devices I would at least want to have a stylus of some sort.
Anyways the closest thing I've seen to something powerful yet fairly affordable for him, and small (8.8''), is the Lenovo Legion Go. I particularly thought of this because I struggle to find actual UMPCs or small tablets, and you can detach the controllers on this one.
Is there any alternative to this?

>so I'm already playing with fire (literally speaking)
what you're describing sounds figurative, unless the PSU is burning. if there's fire coming out of it when you plug it in a recommend not connecting anything to it, in fact you should disconnect it from the wall socket. i hope this helps.
>>
>>107634501
No GPT-chan, by "literally", I meant "figuratively"; I was referring to the fact that used/cheap PSUs are generally advised against since they can wreak havoc on the rest of the system, or even lead to a house fire--hence "playing with fire".

In reference to me using a 24-to-8-pin adapter, I imagine that there's some risk involved similar to using one of those niggerlicious SATA to PCIe adapters for underpowered PSUs. Though in that case, I imagine it has something to do with the PSU being underpowered--as well as the chinesium used to make them.

I should've gone with an Optiplex instead...
>>
>Wireless keyboard
>Logitech software showing charge
>Unplugged : 33% power
>Plug in : instantly jumps from (for one nanosecond) charging indicator to 100% plugged in
>Leave it charging for *hours* (using USB cable to PC), usually ends up at 70-90% charged tops, after unplugging
>Drains super fast when using it unplugged

Is this normal "wearing out" of the battery? I had the keyboard for maybe 5 years tops, but I spilled cola on it twice this year
>>
>>107634431
There are two strategies for ensuring that there is no conflict:
- use partition labels (and assign different labels to your partitions)
- use UUIDs
In both cases, you need to tweak two fstab files and two grub configs (old and new OS).
My personal preference is assigning labels (boot_kubuntu, boot_debian).

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

Everything went completely dark since late last week, I have one recruiter email this morning and a recruiter phone screen later today, and nothing else

I have already had final round interviews at 2 places and haven't hard a rejection, and several recruiters (external and internal) have mentioned they're submitting my resume to the hiring manager

It's going to be fucking nothing for 2 weeks then I'll get slammed, I kinda was hoping I'd have an offer before the holidays just for the emotional release, or at least even some rejections so I'm not left in an anxious holding pattern

Nvidia has brought dlss updates as far back as the rtx 2000 series. Let me be clear, I don't really give a shit about framegen at all. But good upscaling whether it be dlss4 or fsr4 is a necessity these days since games are made with it in mind. Dlss is a much more mature product at this point but I don't know if it's $160 more worth it

A 20-step megapixel gen takes about a minute on my 3090 (picrel right). With the 4-step lightning lora that goes down to 7 seconds (picrel left). The prompt adherence is good enough with lightning that I do that most of the time, especially since I'm going to change the style with a smaller model anyway. Qwen Edit also does what I want with the lightning lora most of the time.
>unless you get great results in like a couple tries max?
Key factor here is that Qwen doesn't have a lot of variability between seeds, even without lightning. I usually do get what I want in a couple tries, but it's also pointless to reroll the same prompt more than two or three times. What you get on the first time roll is not going to change much unless you change the prompt.

>>
>>107634918
Base can kind of do nipples. There are some loras that make it more capable of genning genitals but you will still probably get better results inpainting those details in with another model. For genning existing characters, I try to get as close as possible with a generic description with Qwen and then inpaint with Illu/Noob. It's not a one-step solution by any means, but I'm a proud Kritatroon who enjoys pretending to be an artist through endless img2img and inpainting.

"relighting" is another frequently explored topic. I'll refrain from bludgeoning you with another big list of tools but you can search for "relighting" loras, controlnets, postprocessors, etc. heres one example:
https://github.com/EnragedAntelope/comfyui-relight

>Color hues
not sure about this. probably just post-processing color correction? I think there's some color controlnets out there maybe, you'd have to research this more
https://huggingface.co/ghoskno/Color-Canny-Controlnet-model

>Body Proportions
yeah, openpose is a great option. though your loras should control this too

>addon which lets you dictate a limited color pallete
this is where using reference controlnets or 'next scene' type loras are very useful. you use the same reference image for all gens and will get consistent outputs

Same professionals who used glossy imacs for 2 decades? Color reproduction is about the calibration and monitor profile.
>>
>>107634899
A macfag giving opinions? Also I knew it, gay for sure. It's not just color reproduction, glossy makes it hard to know how it will actually look on paper.
>>
>>107634859
>Glosst looks way better.
any dark scene and you see your fucking face, any object visible in the reflection is a distraction, glossy can look better in real life, it's incredibly distracting.
Id take a slighly performance hit for not having to care about reflections.
I nearly left a job once because I had to use two glossy monitors, I had to switch to light themes for everything as with my usually dark theme it was like I was looking at a fucking mirror, it's incredibly distracting even if my face is very pretty (according to my mom anyway).
I ended up bringing my own monitors after IT denied my ticket to change them by something else, it was just too impossible to work with.
>>107634877

also why do you care so much about color acuracy when the only persons on this planet that can watch your content as the gods intended are the american boomers with 100k theater setup? it's worthless, the average person still look at 360/480 pixel vomit on their 1080p and higher monitors so...
>>
>>107634928
You know that there is a lot of different kinds of paper? Most designers used and use macs. That's just true as no designer uses linux..
>>
>>107634960
Most modern designers are shit too, comes with the macfag seal of approval.

But seriously, most professional photographers, graphical designers, and video editors do not like glossy. I searched, and the opinion remains the same. I'm not making shit up and I can understand why even if I'm not one.

I'm a software engineer and glossy is horrible, super distracting, eye tiring, and doesn't even look good in movies or games imo. It looks as if everything is behind a watery glass. The real world is not glossy.

If you prefer it, fine, but for me OLED is glossy and that's a deal breaker. I'm not the only one with this opinion and so mini-led IPS already surpassed OLED in sales.
