Is lack of curiosity and responsibility combined with AI killing tech?

Zoomers are retarded but I don't blame them for struggling with modern work culture. Most of them are poorly socialized and nobody ever tells them that a large part of white collar work is just pretending to be busy.

Fellow software engineers, what's your plan for the next 5-10 years?
I wasn't worried until Sonnet & Opus 4.5 but it genuinely one shots everything I give it. We went from doing 30 story points (team of 4) to 60 per sprint after the release.
The writing is on the wall, software engineering will be the first white collar job to be automated.
What do we do afterwards?

UBI is what the elites want. It will be just enough to survive but not enough to build anything meaningful. They can turn it off for you if you say the wrong thing online. It would be total serfdom.

I can't make heads or tails off of these discussions either, I'm slowly convinced that >90% posters here are either AI bots or have never been employed in the field. I have not noticed our velocity increase to any noticeable degree over the past ~3 years. Otoh we had layoffs in the fall and that was noticeably immediately, work is a lot more stressfull and busy these days

A year ago our company started mandating the use of AI and tracking usage, and consistently it's the shittiest programmers that use AI the most. I do admit that AI might currently be having a positive effect in terms of "raising the skill floor" this way, but I have a feeling that these employees will just grow dependent on these tools and will never grow past them
>>
>>107678494
I have a variety of backup plans.
One thing for sure is that we're having to move out of our current apartment.
My wife will finish her degree in 1.5 years, and she works in a job AI can't do. In the coming 1.5 years I have time to prepare and get ahead of what I will study next. Should I get fired, I have unemployment benefits, which are enough to get by for the time.

I already signed up for career counselling. Not really because I believe that AI is an actual threat for me personally, but I have to admit that I just don't see myself doing this long term anymore, partly because of AI. I went from Junior Software Engineer to Solution Architect in 6 years, so I'd argue I'm pretty decent at the Job. But the joy is kinda gone.

Anyway with the career counselling I hope to find a definitive path to focus on.
I want to explore if Electrical Engineering is a job that has a lot of jobs where manual finger dexterity is required. It's a job with higher accountability on the software side for sure, but the goal is using my hands and fingers for more than typing on a keyboard and using a mouse. Instead I hope to actually build physical stuff. According to an infoday at the nearest University for Applied Science, I can easily start there, no admission exam required.

An Electrical Engineering degree also allows me to pivot into a very diverse set of occupations.

If the career counselor tells me that it is again a super computer based job in my country, I will explore wheter I become a nurse, which can also yield a great salary with some additional training later, or if I go for a trade job

I'm happy game dev won't be negatively impacted, sure there will be more people being able to make a "game" but if they don't have a good artistic vision they will amount to 0 anyways, they will use assets that are clearly just a mismatched pile of ai shit, email corporate level writing and bugged code.
And on the other side I feel like I can tackle on way more complex stuff by myself, in 3 claude prompts I remade a system that I had to pay a lot and took a month to be made, but people that tend to have an artistic vision will just bitch and don't touch AI, further reducing competition.
If there's one negative side is that pc hardware is getting more expensive, but I thing steam deck and frame will save a bit.

>>
>>107677080
Doing basic fucking shit like saving your bookmarks is not as easy with browsers, even mobile browsers. Apps are simpler, you click on the site you want to open.

This is not a hyperbole. There was an article from.... 2010 or something, about a guy who made a shopping list, or alarm clock, I don't remember, app for the then-new iOS app store whenever that came out. People kept asking him to make a "list but for X" application too. He replied by allowing the app to save several lists. This was too complex for users who instead downloaded the chink copy of the app that was called "list for X", because it was just simpler to organize shit on the front page of the phone that way.
I don't remember the specifics but that was the gist of it. People would rather have 10 basic apps for 10 different tasks than 1 complex app that can handle 10 tasks.
>>
Apps can trick you into sharing your contacts and files. On desktop, only giga boomers would run random.exe and making a multiplatform application that also functions well is much harder on desktop. Phone app development, for as shit and nonfree as it is, is realistic vs making some dogshit "desktop" app.

He won’t because he’s incapable. Regardless, he wouldn’t do it anyway because his audience is too retarded to learn anything new. He’s just like the dozens of other “tech” sloptubers out there, only difference is that this one has a /g/ coat of paint. If you actually want to learn new things, focus on reading the classic textbooks. If you must learn from sloptube, don’t “learn” from a random nobody that stays surface level and uses clickbait thumbnails and other patterns to maximize watch time.

Windows has a layered storage driver stack. At the end of the day, pretty much everything goes through the SCSI driver at some point - the miniport driver right at the bottom either passes through, or translates, those commands to what the hardware interface expects.
>2
It's not any sort of revolution: command sets for pretty much all interface these days are heavily inspired by SCSI, hence why pushing I/O through the SCSI layer has always worked so well. It does lower latency however, hence why random I/O is showing the best performance improvements under this "new driver".

>>107684700
Depends.
I've heard that Security+ is a requirement for getting certain jobs for government contractors.
If you have plenty of experience in IT/cyber to put on your resume then they might not do much. I think they're mostly for people who didn't get degrees or internships to make their way into entry-level jobs to show some proof they can do IT stuff. But I also hear about people with degrees getting the certs anyways.

Different problem. ITAR makes it illegal to even feed this information into any space that could be exported to foreign nationals, let alone that information is probably classified. Arguably this is a blatant violation of the 1a, but the US is a fake and gay hypocritical shithole.
>>
>>107684325
To be fair, buying entails licensing which entails disputes. Stealing and obscuring the source and then smoke-screening with "fair use" was likely considered the lowest risk. I don't think money came into the picture. Remember, lawyers and the jewdiciary are literally the root of all evil and the decline of the west, personified.

>The authors are entitled to their share of the profit of the AI boom, because their intellectual property made it possible and the companies committed an illegal act by stealing their data.
Lets assume we agree this is reasonable: how do you verify whether or not your work was used in the training? The big SaaS You are almost always going to keep the data sets, used a secret and never release them for all these reasons (mostly so their competition can't improve THEIR products with it or do any reverse engineering). Once you have a raw neural network, you cannot inspect the thing to find out exactly which specific media you trained it on. The most evil find is some metadata (and even that isn't necessary for the neural network to even work. It being included is more of a courtesy)
