Comp sci parts of reddit are just a bunch of retarded CS undergrads whining about leetcode.
Hackernews is also onions but more on topic and sometimes you run into semi-famous people writing filesystems for google or something. At the very least you learn more about VC.
Blind is better for hearing about layoffs or other tea in industry.
/g/ is better for memes and culture, less politically onions, personal project ideas tend to be less bullshitty than hackernews

Reddit is just complete garbage, it's cringe, the people aren't good technically, all of the takes are shit. You don't get anything from engaging with them. You just hear a bunch of retarded political opinions and get nothing in return

4chan's metrics are declining in general, why do you think they got rid of IP counters? Most of the threads and posts nowadays are schizos spamming the same thing over and over. 4chan has no relevance any more, in large part because of the election tourists who've destroyed the site's culture over the past decade. We have no influence, no creativity, no humor. We are destined to rot away until the server costs finally outweigh the generated ad revenue and hiro pulls the plug.

It's dual license and not all uses are permitted under LGPL.
>Are you developing for specific embedded or real-time systems?
>This is another major area for commercial licensing. While Qt for embedded Linux is available under the open-source license, developing for many other real-time operating systems (RTOS) like QNX or INTEGRITY, or for microcontrollers (MCUs), often requires tools and pre-built libraries that are only available under a commercial license.
>The Qt for MCUs product, for example, is a commercial-only offering that allows you to run Qt on resource-constrained devices where a full OS isn’t present. If you’re in this space, you should budget for a commercial license from the start.
Your calculator app doesn't need a commercial license. The infortainment system in your automobile does.

I'm considering moving to a dumber model that is faster and cheaper. I can't trust even the best LLMs to write good code yet so I think I will lean in more into treating them like a fancy pattern matcher/autocomplete and find one that is good for that. Maybe only use opus 4.5 for code review.

New to troonix, using linux mint, trying to install mpv since I want to try it out, apparently the package mint uses in its repository is outdated, they reccomend using the helper scripts to build it but I have never done this before and have no idea what im doing or whats going on. running "sudo ./install" ends with "autoreconf: error: automake failed with exit status: 1"

is it worth figuring out how to do it the autistic way if the way the want you to install it is poorly documented? do i just use the old version in in the repository?

it would be a disaster because they cant even get their natively supported linux builds to fucking work

literally just tried cs2 on linux and it isnt playable. 30-120 fps nonstop stuttering. i google around and people just say the linux build has been like this for awhile and isnt playable.

they are such a shit company. their biggest achievement is being able to figure out you can enable children to gamble and make infinite money. with the infinite money they just fund shitty projects that always fail and buy out IP just to ruin it.

#define __NR_rt_sigprocmask        14

https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man2/sigprocmask.2.html

today's thread is again mostly a continuation of the previous thread's discussion. we will focus on linux signals in general. from the manpage, these two excerpts are what i feel is the most interesting:
>It is not possible to block SIGKILL or SIGSTOP. Attempts to do so are silently ignored.
this one makes sense if you understand the reasoning behind it, but i have seen many questions on this in the past. definitely a topic worth discussing
>Each of the threads in a process has its own signal mask.
this is useful because it is powerful, but it is also really annoying in its complexity, lol
i guess honorable mention to the note about undefined behavior, as well

What causes this level of bloat? Almost a 10x increase in memory usage is ridiculous. Are modern devs just incapable of optimization? No wonder Chris Sawyer hates the OpenRCT project, they ruined his clean, efficient code.

Almost everyone always give this answer when this subject comes up and it's bullshit. The Pratt parser is hard to wrap your head around, extends and understand at all. It's easy to copy/paste it but if you can't extend it you don't understand it.
Plenty of people think that it's a top-down parsing algorithm, that's hilarious.
