What is the /g/ consensus on password managers? How much safer are they to use than using a handful of "smart" passwords for everything?
>>
consensus implies it's up to discussionn, with a common agreement. It's not. There is a correct scheme for your passwords and it's a local password manager with different passwords for everything. It doesn't matter which one, only that you do not ruin its purpose by hosting it in some cloud or using the same passwords for everything anyway. Every week there's leaks and anyone whose passwords are in one made an active choice to put it there. The idea of a "smart" password makes me shiver as to what kind of retarded patterns you put in your passwords, given that you want your password to be as dumb/random as possible.
>>
>>107690358
I'm asking how much safer it is exactly and is it it worth it for the pleb class. me personally I change my passwords regularly and craft them from lines of Middle English poetry
>>
>>107690401
>I'm asking how much safer it is exactly
>craft them
>from lines of middle english poetry
It's shit like this that has you replying just in case he's not baiting.
Anon, stop trying to rationalize your profoundly retarded password system. Use a password manager. The "pleb class" will just use one in the cloud, but at least that's only one system that has to stay secure rather than a hundred.
>>
>>107690401
It does two things:
defends against credential stuffing attacks which is how 90% of people get fucked over (e.g. I get your amazon password which now means I try it on your email, bank, etc and pwn everything at once)

defends against word list or rainbow table brute force attacks because you randomly generate ultra long incoherent passwords

The result is that when hashes get leaked they’re a pain in the ass for someone to reverse, and should they succeed the impact is limited because your passwords are different for every service

If you’re using the same passwords for everything you’re doing it wrong regardless of how complicated they are or how frequently they’re changed
If you’re using a cloud based pw manager you’re doing it wrong because it provides a single silver bullet to attackers for every service you have

Stop making your own passwords and use an offline manager anon, just make sure you back up the database using the 3-2-1 rule

Why doesn't Linux develop something like PowerShell? Shit is amazing.

Just found out the other day powershell has a scriplet to convert markdown to html.
Not as good as pandoc or lowdown, but preddy cool.

PowerShell is already available on Linux. But no one uses it. Why use it over Python?
>>
>>107690413
Infosec guys who primarily work with Windows but sometimes need to do stuff in Linux often use Powershell on Linux so they can reuse their scripts with few changes. Python is too close to programming rather than scripting, which for some reason is the default for infosec.

Not to mention 90% of open source models are nothing but distillations of big corporate models, meaning that they are probably even more pozzed, because while GPT4 can write about how hitler was right or whatever, it just has guardrails made by the company to terminate massage when censors, the distilled model can’t even write about sex or racism because it was trained on the filtered output of GPT4 for example. At least I think that’s how lot of it works, maybe those distillation trainers pay for premium API that gives them the uncensored model or something. Regardless open source AI for the most part is nothing but parasites of the bigger AI models, with sometimes algorithmic improvements like what lot of Chinese companies do.
>>
>>107690386
but are the big corporate models regulated?

AI = cheap, shitty, lame, and gay

meritocracy is a centrist liberal ideal though. the far left hate it because "wtf why are the repressed 70IQers still underrepresented as doctors and engineers? why are most bricklayers still male? we clearly need more affirmative action now!"

Many full on unironic anarchist types often tend to identify as libertarian rather then leftist.

The right wants to get away from meritocracy because they want their elite jobs gatekept to people who went to the correct prestigious (and expensive) academic institutions and are children of elite families, even if they're utter morons. They may be in favor of meritocracy for pleb wagie jobs however.

It doesn't support _real_ fractional scaling. What it does is that it renders things at an integer scaling and then downscales the window as a texture, making it blurry as shit. It's implemented like this because gnome devs are also gtk devs so they are fucking retarded and didn't implement fractional scaling in gtk (intentionally). Qt supports fractional scaling properly, including on x11 (and all other operating systems/display servers that it can run on).

The code is public, the license to use it is not. So yeah, it’s stealing. Theoretically speaking, any software that is written using AI trained on GPL code, should also be GPL. If not, that’s stealing.

Also, why was my previous thread deleted? This is a software-based application explicitly engineered for operation within the computational and telecommunications framework of a handheld mobile device, ok? It is therefore unambiguously situated within the broader domain of contemporary technological systems, infrastructures, and applied digital sciences, and as such relevant to /g/.

Reminder of the following:

1. Google will merge ChromeOS and Android to form a FOSS Linux-based desktop OS that will be 100% free to download and use.

https://www.androidauthority.com/aluminium-os-android-for-pcs-3619092/

2. Windows will be severely affected by this new, totally free competitor and will bleed marketshare.

3. All existing Linux desktop environments will be totally outclassed by Google's top secret desktop UI and underlying OS. Even Linux users will give up on shit like Mint and just use Google's desktop for their daily driver OS.

2026 will finally be the year of the Linux desktop, and it will be because Google will do to desktops what they did to phones.

You know it's coming. Don't act like this was a surprise.

Ok.
That won't happen, google can't magically make a better desktop then everyone else. More liekly they'll just reuse chromeOSes UX with some of Androids and it will be utter dogshit so people will end up using kde, gnome or whatever else if they care not to use the web browser os like chromeos.
Windows will certainly stay in market given Microsoft's foothold on enterprise, lesser; consumers.
Google shit isn't worth it since it will just be a rehash of chromeos and even if not functionality of aluminum would need to compete with better options given the free space that linux is. KDE's window management is top class, to a scary degree they even outclass windows with power toy.
You know you're retard, Don't act surprised by the fact you're a faggot

>KDE will still be better than anything in existence as it always was.
KDE will be rendered useless in a matter of years since so many people will use the Google desktop instead.

>>107690272
I'm afraid KDE and LXQT are also on the chopping block.

>>107690273
Mint will just give up and use Google's desktop, if they still exist in 2030.

>>107690275
>That won't happen, google can't magically make a better desktop then everyone else.
They just have to make a better OS for free, like how Android destroyed all the other smartphone OS's. Why deal with Windows when you can run Google desktop for free?
