How do I make modern technology bearable and user friendly again?

Even XP wasn't user friendly. I remember I couldn't run Garfield because of some driver issue (generally other games worked).

This 100%, OP is pining for a past they never experienced. Driver issues were so fucking stupid back then and it was harder to get anything to work. I had some peripherals my parents bought back in the Windows 98 days that literally never functioned even after doing everything by the book, like this faggot joystick that ended up in a garage sale or something.

In my experience windows xp didn't had that much issues like people claim it had, and I used it for a long time on many PCs until hard EOS and some time after. I think most people had issues, because of rapid progress and because people upgraded components and whole PCs more often. I was "poor" and used one computer, no upgrades for very long spans of time until upgrades and I always had slightly outdated computer by the time something new was released. When something already works and you don't touch it, it is more stable.

As for "fragility" of windows xp - it bluescreened on driver issues, because that's how windows handled errors at the time. Modern windows crash implicitly and tries to restart the driver and only really fatal errors result in BSOD. The stability of modern windows drivers is an illusion. Obviously new hardware doesn't have polished drivers on release.

Strange indeed. Get a refund and for future GBS just stick to designers that the pro vendors work with, like Nuxros. For everything else, there's always the mechmarket or extra drops.

I will try but I already know they are going to make further false promises like "yeah we might reach out to the designer, just give us 1 more month" and its going to drag on for months if not a year. not like I have any other options

It's not that it doesn't make sense or have a point, it just happens to be a bit dated and a bit reddit and more than a little juvenile.

I don't have the exact serials at hand but it's various ultrastar in the 10-22TB range.
>more SMR garbo in low-end drives
we most definitely don't have SMR drives.
>if you see crap like 34dBa idle noise on the datasheets, that's one of their known garbage drives, they will run at something like 70C under load unless you put active cooling on them (the problem being that they use these drives in externals with no cooling whatsoever).
I'll check on monday if we have any of these things, ty for the tip.
>>107730486
>one drive fails after a few hours of operation
I have a few 4-6TB ironwolf that have been running for 5 years without any issue, guess you weren't lucky.
>order one on amazon, arrives completely unprotected inside an huge empty box
This usually happen when you buy drives from a "bulk" ie how companies receive them, see pic I found on ebay, we receive them in this kind of box, the drives are usually inside an antistatic bag and this is what they ship to people, this is beyond disrespectful.
you can tell with the serial if the drive is from a bulk or not by typing it on seagate website, this usually have impact on how the warranty work (bulk drives usually don't have manufacturer warranty, this is a thing to be aware of)
I just received a 6TB wd red and it was packed inside a wd box for example with full wd warranty support

>we most definitely don't have SMR drives.
Some schizo is spamming /g/ with this so take it with a grain of salt, but apparently WD is now shipping drives which internally use SMR or zoned SMR, but marking them as CMR on product sheets. Some ways to identify them is them reporting TRIM support, or having disproportionally high amount of RAM compared to similar model drives. They may also report nonlinear speed curves depending on disk position, showing up as having several different "flat" speed zones. I have no idea how true any of this is.

>I'll check on monday if we have any of these things, ty for the tip.
They are the 8tb and 10tb drives which used to be helium initially, but they changed them to normal air ones. There's a theory going around that they run so hot simply because of the air friction, since they have too many platters to work with air, having been designed for helium use originally. They also have higher weight and use more power (9W vs 6W). I had a few of them, they were the loudest hard drives I ever bought. See picrel.

Looking at the latest datasheets it seems they are up to 12TB now. WD Gold WD121KRYZ was still helium and has 20dBa idle and 6W power, WD122KRYZ is air and has 34dBa idle and 9W power, Red Plus has equivalent 12TB models. So if you get anything 8TB or larger, make sure they are helium models even if they are an older model.

Or just use Toshiba enterprise drives, they don't fuck around with idiocy like this.
>>
>>107731695
>apparently WD is now shipping drives which internally use SMR or zoned SMR, but marking them as CMR on product sheets
anon, that started years ago.
that "schizo" is most likely an LLM spambot.
