Wrong. Space travel in ST exists only because one drunk geezer invented the impossible physics machine in the middle of nowhere

I was fed up with the recent laggy and bloated windows release so I checked out Mint but it was pretty janky and not a great experience overall, a lot of my programs didn't work on it as well
But then I got recommended a youtube tutorial on installing an older windows version and it made me wonder if that would be a viable alternative so I read some guides and turns out you can actually still use that version just fine if you install a modern web browser and a firewall
I was expecting to have to tinker a bit to get new programs working on it but turns out they just work out of the box
I wish Mint was as pleasant of an experience because I enjoy customizing things and it's kind of known for that, but it really falls flat in comparison
Anyone else here switched to older windows?

NTA but the audio has been randomly disconnecting and making broken sounds since september
The devs said they're looking into it but radio silence and no progress since
I've been on mint for years but this is REALLY annoying me to the point where I'm seriously considering switching to windows 7 myself
>>
>>107643357
windows 7 is pretty much linux mint without all the warts of linux so I'd give it a shot

i have encountered the audio issue you're describing myself only once or twice so it's not a big deal. if i were to guess it's probably due to that oldhead developer getting kicked out not long ago
>>
>>107642240
Why would you waste time tinkering with an old windows version when you could just install Linux and get all the benefits?
>>
>>107642240
>>107642294
tempted to swap to windows 7 on my gaming pc, really unsure as to what I should be doing when swapping, I've changed OS's a bunch this year going from windows, to mint, arch, cachy and then back to windows cause I bought a meta headset and all the third party fixes just didn't work.

How good does Win7 work nowadays and what would I have to do? Really miss it

He will release his browser, it will be good, but then corporations will get behind him and fuck it up and turn ladybird into bloated shitware just like any browser, it's the lifecycle of most software with good intentions.

Though, I doubt a browser can make a difference, the real problem is with the web and webpages using a fuckton of javascript. You can't fix a decade of bad web design with just browser, unless he implements some super custom javascript engine that prevents stuff like fingerprinting.

ubuntu is probably the most bloated mainstream distro i have ever came across. i do in fact need less, and arch gives me exactly what i want, an assembly of components I ALONE want.

honestly speaking i prefer the bsd/mac os way of not depending on the ABI like Linux because of GPL, it seems to produce better/stabler user space, i think from the point of view of the user is much better (and one of the reasons why Linus criticises glibc)

but then you have to pay the costs of a non-free software space too

if glibc, ui libs, etc in linux paid more attention for not breaking things, it'd be better than mac desu

I've only used Crux a little bit, but from the little experience I have I'd say Slackware is less work initially, as you don't have to compile your kernel during the installation. I ran into some packages in the ports tree that wouldn't sometimes too. It's been a pretty long time since I tried it, that's all I can really remember.

>>
>fod

>>
>>107642551
i've wanted to try this and i probably will some day.
these ports-like systems are precious.
another one on my list is Source Mage linux.
since Gentoo, i haven't been incentivized enough to try them though.

>>107643451
its just a gentoo chroot. nothing fancy.
if shtf, i have the slackware system with some 29gb of packages with everything i might ever need.
the gentoo system is just a light-weight tailor-fit system. lets me do stuff that is a pain in the ass on slackware to scale up.
i'm just not up to the task of patching the slackbuilds every time i update the sbo repo, something i dont have to even do with portage. saves a bunch of time really since its a proper source-based distro which makes life easier.

slackbuilds are a much less comfy system than portage.
you need way too much effort to customize everything with slackbuilds.

I use similar ones too for some cables, if they have genuine M3 or at least good sticky tape, they are fine. Sometimes you might get some with really shitty tape, they easily come off over time under load.
