It’s crazy how it will literally be impossible to build a PC in about 12-18 months, and might never be possible again.
whatever PC you have now is probably it.

Unless you feel like spending 200-500% MSRP for RAM and GPUs. And even that option is likely to go away. At some point soon, your “upgrading” options will be a cloud terminal connecting to Sam Altman’s panopticon, or a $300,000 server.

only people who have something to hide need a "personal" computer

Without changing how people write code, how difficult is it to implement some kind of memory-safety feature (even if not accurate) in a C compiler, so it can show some kind of warning at least?

If it can't be done so easily at compile-time, then what about some kind of static-analysis tool that can inspect binaries for potential violations?

It is my view that belief is the underlying and basic element of policy and action. First one must sort out matters of belief: who one is, in what relationship to whom, and what general direction in the realm of values is up and what direction is down. Then clear and rigorous logic, based upon a cold and unemotional assessment of the objective evidence concerning the relevant facts, and a careful analysis of the probable outcomes and probable material and moral costs of alternative courses of action, can help to get one from where one is to where one wants, and should want, to be.

Shame that this is a completely alien concept to you considering how you tried to argue that managed GC languages are not memory safe lmao.

>RAII is more of a solution for memory/resource leaks than memory safety.
if you manage your memory ONLY in that way, then you have full memory safety.

I know, the point of this exercise is to make it easier for OTHER people to read your code, does that make sense? I understand theory of mind is probably really hard for you

How? It's in a function. Is it too hard to click on a function with a modern ide? If so you probably shouldn't care about how code is styled

Simple as. There is no point in trying to run up a hill as it goes vertical. Focus on getting your computing and media offline and getting parts and media. Have a literal throw away think client for internet shit and leave it switched off when you are not using it and make sure that anything you do is completely bland..no porn no copyright violations no political posting just stfu, don;pt use cloud storage don't use anything that is an applicaton that needs an internet connection for your shit, keep the internet to the absolute minimum that you can for mandatory stuff and only visit those sites

on a similar note, I have a laptop from 2019 or so that's a "gaming" one. I have yet to retire it as a daily driver but if ever I do, is it suitable as a server if I slap on headless ubuntu on it or something? I'm worried it having a GPU would make it draw more power than it should

The importance of environment variables is that you can edit them
So every program that saves their files to "%temp%\..." can instead be redirected if you decide you want your temp appdata folder to live on a different disk or just somewhere else in general

Disclaimer, I honestly don't know how many windows program use %temp% rather than hardcoding the AppData path and I especially don't know how well it'd work on a different disk, because windows is extremely autistic about disk barriers. But the point is that if your program is using a variable for something then you can configure its behaviour.
I remember setting up minecraft on windows by setting my java path environment variable to select different java versions that minecraft would run, if you have more than one java installed at the same time.

Is anyone else having problems with Tor browser?
All of a sudden with the latest update (15.0.4, Windows) it has become unusable. No matter what site I'm on, the connection starts spazzing out, and completely changing, every 5-10 seconds. Including the guard. All three proxy connections change every few seconds. Impossible to use any website when the proxy is constantly changing this frequently. I didn't change any settings, it happened with this latest update. What's going on?

Internal ones are useless
External ones are usually not needed but at least not objectively useless. They're better just, like I said, normally not needed.
And as a bonus, ever since apple killed the headphone jack the mobile phone market gave birth to an entire market of small portable usb DACs. Turns out there was never any need to build massive boxes, there was just never any market for cheap small ones. They're basically good enough for everything except super autistic audiophiles

Github is a website for source code
They upload their source code there because that's the entire point of github
If you don't want source code then you shouldn't be looking at github at all

It's like asking "why do all reviewers upload their reviews to youtube as videos, I don't want to watch a video I just want to read a text review, but all the youtube reviews just upload shitty videos"
