The steam frame is gonna cost like 700 dollars maybe more with the RAM issues going isn't it?
The Quest 3 was being sold for 407+100 dollar in Amazon credit a week ago.

700 is probably too low with 800 being more likely. Meta sold the Quest line at a massive loss, just to kick everyone else out of the cheaper end of the market and to get people hooked into their ecosystem. The price of the Frame will be the actual cost of what it takes to get one of these things put together.

I use QubesOS with detached boot partition on 2 duplicated USB drives with any data that rests on the SSD/HDDs being encrypted with LUKS2. Whonix gateway is proxied through a VPN qube to hide Tor IPs (can't hide communication patterns) without bridges since bridge IPs can be farmed. Sometimes Tor through I2P outproxy or vice-versa or with different anonymizing network overlays. Clients used for browsing are only opened in on-RAM ephemeral qubes with no access to permanent storage. Attack surface is quite minimum since no extra things added like USB mouse and no PV qubes (aside from sys-usb and sys-net) are used for launching HVM qubes with qemu stub domains unless very necessary and every other qube on the system gets shut down first to keep information leakage minimum. A veracrypt volume with hidden storage on a permanent qube for data storage and plausible deniability.

What's /g/'s opinion on Mental Outlaw? I've been a fan of his for a long long time, he's the one that made me privacy conscious and made me switch to Linux. I remember once reading in one of his comment sections that he was "bullied off /g/" by some guy, is this true? Also, if you're seeing this thread Kenny, hi!

Luke Smith is the embodiment of the Dunning Krueger effect. He's a Language arts PHD dropout that decided to just copy the most successful Linux YouTuber at the time (Mental Outlaw) but Luke's technical competence is so low he makes several mistakes whenever he rips off one of Kenny's videos. When people called him out on this Luke started grasping for ways to stand out from being another Mental Outlaw clone.

1st Luke started shilling credit cards, he even disabled all crypto payments on his POD bookstore because Kenny hates the debt based financial system.

2nd Luke took an anti-gaming stance because Kenny occasionally plays vidya with his gf.

3rd Luke took an anti phone and anti gun position because Kenny carries both as part of his EDC

4th, Luke stopped making his videos in the woods because Kenny took over his family farm and made a couple videos about it. Luke just can't stand living in Kenny's shadow.

5th, Luke became anti restaurant because Kenny works with local restaurants to get organic food scraps for his animals and sells the meat and eggs back to the restaurant

And the most hilarious LARP of all is Luke pretending to be a Christian so he could enhance his E-begging and associate himself with Terry Davis despite desktop ricing being his greatness programming accomplishment.

>Not understanding delayed gratification
This is the dumbest critique of Musk that leftoids keep bringing up. If he believed that we are decade away from achiving the best technology that solves literally everything and allows everyone to be rich then why should he give away his wealth instead of financing that tech. He would be able to afford like 1 week of government spending, and that is assuming his assets can be perfectly liquidated. You are the type of person that would sell farmer’s tools to buy him month supply of bread.

>In 2008, a software developer in San Francisco named Curtis Yarvin, writing under a pseudonym, proposed a horrific solution for people he deemed “not productive”: “convert them into biodiesel, which can help power the Muni buses.”

>Yarvin, a self-described reactionary and extremist who was 35 years old at the time, clarified that he was “just kidding.” But then he continued, “The trouble with the biodiesel solution is that no one would want to live in a city whose public transportation was fueled, even just partly, by the distilled remains of its late underclass. However, it helps us describe the problem we are trying to solve. Our goal, in short, is a humane alternative to genocide.”

>He then concluded that the “best humane alternative to genocide” is to “virtualize” these people: Imprison them in “permanent solitary confinement” where, to avoid making them insane, they would be connected to an “immersive virtual-reality interface” so they could “experience a rich, fulfilling life in a completely imaginary world.”

>The development comes a little over a year after the tech giant [Google] disclosed that its transition to Rust led to a decline in memory safety vulnerabilities from 223 in 2019 to less than 50 in 2024.

>The company pointed out that Rust code requires fewer revisions, necessitating about 20% fewer revisions than their C++ counterparts, and has contributed to a decreased rollback rate, thereby improving overall development throughput.

>We adopted Rust for its security and are seeing a 1000x reduction in memory safety vulnerability density compared to Android's C and C++ code. But the biggest surprise was Rust's impact on software delivery," Google's Jeff Vander Stoep said. "With Rust changes having a 4x lower rollback rate and spending 25% less time in code review, the safer path is now also the faster one

>With roughly 5 million lines of Rust in the Android platform and one potential memory safety vulnerability found (and fixed pre-release), our estimated vulnerability density for Rust is 0.2 vuln per 1 million lines (MLOC).

>Our historical data for C and C++ shows a density of closer to 1,000 memory safety vulnerabilities per MLOC. Our Rust code is currently tracking at a density orders of magnitude lower: a more than 1000x reduction.
